Here’s what will happen: The entire dynamic of the 2020 elections will be changed.

There will no longer be a question of if Trump will be impeached, as it will have already happened and he only avoided removal through a party-line vote.

Repubs running for reelection will face not questions about their position in the event of hypothetical impeachment, but their actual votes for/against impeachment and removal.

The party itself will have had millions in campaign funds ripped from their coffers by lawyers and consultants in the impeachment fight, money that would have otherwise funded down-ticket races where the party is facing tightening odds.

And the narrative of the election will not be one of a president under fire, but of an impeached president who is seeking reelection by a public that has had months to marinate in the totality of his criminal actions.
