re: #14 Yeah Sure WhatEVs
Just watched the Joker. As usual Phoenix was great, but overall it was an ok movie. Not one of watch again.
At the end, Send in the Clowns played. Sad song. Hubs asked if I knew what it was about (I didnât, I donât hear lyrics very well, I have weird ears) so we discussed. I think itâs not just an allegory about love but one about gay love.
Thoughts?
just happened to read this yestereday
Necessity as the Mother of Invention: âTwin Soliloquiesâ and âSend in the Clownsâ
Letâs take a look at âTwin Soliloquiesâ from Rodgers and Hammersteinâs South Pacific and âSend in the Clownsâ from Sondheimâs A Little Night Music. Now, I know what youâre thinking. These two songs have absolutely NOTHING in common. One is a duet and the other is a solo. South Pacific premiered in the late 1940âs, but A Little Night Music wasnât written until the early 70âs. The duet is a sweet depiction of two people falling in love. The other deals with lost love and disillusionment. So what is the common thread here? Well, both of these numbers were written for very specific practical reasons.
