Fred Trump died with an estate valued in excess of $400 million (though the Times puts that figure at $250-300 million) split among various family members. Fred Trump managed to build or accumulate 27,000 apartments throughout NYC, mostly affordable housing.

Not sure how much of that went to help Donald, but Donald was a major player in running the real estate business once he graduated from school. Those units are probably worth significantly more now than they were in 1999 when he died.

A release of his tax records would go a long way to clearing up how much money he really has.
