I know you did. That’s why I let you know how far off that figure was. The reporter would not be able to use the solution you suggested. So where does that leave us? It leaves us with a reporter saying that some people say the holocaust happened, and some don’t. That fails in the reporter’s duty to inform the public of the truth.

We’re not talking about the legal system. I have no idea why you’re bringing it up.

I don’t know why you feel this way, though. What value is there in a reporter not fact-checking someone’s claim? If someone says something false, why shouldn’t the reporter state that it is false?

A reporter can very easily find someone who is expert in a field. I brought up the legal system to illustrate that locating true experts is something that is done regularly, by the courts, and a reporter can do the same thing.

“Sergey Romanov, who has studied the Holocaust in depth for 30 years and has had x number of papers published on the topic, is considered an expert on the topic and he says …. “.

Those are all factual statements, and would make an impact. What the reporter has left out is any indication of whether or not he personally believes Sergey.
