Not quite. Dewey was up on Truman in the Gallup polls by 17% or so in late September. Romney has never achieved any sort of meaningful lead on Obama. (Also, the Democratic Party is also not currently in a three-way split with far left and far right candidates running independent campaigns as well.)

Per my Pat Caddell link, I was thinking of the vulnerability of the incumbent and not the polls. You’re correct anyway.
