Not long ago the army would have stepped in and replaced the current government quite a while ago. I’m not sure if that infrastructure is still in place, maybe Erdogen is worried about a coup. Today’s protest escalated pretty quickly. New alcohol regulations were just announced last week. People aren’t happy.
