Working at McMurdo requires a pysch eval first, or at least it always used to. Being sealed up inside the base for seven months is a mental stressor they want to make sure you can handle. Very few females (already spoken for) and a lot of guys cooped up, well you get the picture.

The scientist types get to go outside sometimes even in the dead of winter to make sure the rest of the world is still actually there, you will not be allowed to. Communications are somewhat better now but you will still lose them for days at a time sometimes when enough driving snow occludes the dish signal.

If you do go you should buy at least four pairs of poly/wool blend longjohns (longsleeve tops and bottoms) a neoprene face mask “gator mask,” ski goggles, and a neck muffler beforehand, you will be very glad you did.

Not saying it is a bad place to earn a buck, just…very, very different.
