The simple reality is that, in the eyes of evangelicals, you can never be religious and liberal. It’s not simply a matter of differing opinions, they literally cannot accept the idea that a person can have religious values and liberal values simultaneously. And it’s not an à la carte situation, you have to believe the most whacked out and deeply conservative version of their religion’s beliefs…or you’re really a heathen who’s gonna burn for eternity.
