I honestly think some of the right-wing whackos really do understand what a default would mean, and like it. They want the US’s credit rating to sink, so that it’s harder for us to borrow money. I even feel like they want us to be less wealthy, or at least for wealth to be concentrated more in an elite, because wealthier societies are more liberal and tolerant.

More and more, the Arab states seem to be what some on the nutty right wing see as a model.
