It could take some time, but this approach would most likely help bring down overall costs.

It would have to be measured over several generations and include economic add on effects like lost work due to disease and depression (direct and indirect: i.e. in the individual and then their friends/family.) This kind of stuff is hard to quantify, but it’s not hard to see where it would easily pay off in terms of quality of life for vastly more members of society.
