I remember when we got to the part in Catechism about how all the saints were martyred; Sebastian shot full of arrows, Andrew nailed to an X-shaped cross, Peter being crucified upside down, that I realized these people were really fucked up and obsessed with pain and suffering.

I saw a beautiful painting of the multi-pierced St Sebastian in Venice, at an exhibit about the plague,and I haven’t found a photo of it online, although I’ve seen many others.
