it’s government spending and like any government spending that doesnt have an explicitly stated offset (a specific increased tax, or other compensating spending cut) simply adds to the deficit

how we deal with the deficit is a separate problem from ‘the government is spending money in a way i dont like”

The other issue of course, is that there are probably a lot of people that will receive relief who have paid many times the principal amount in interest. There will also be tons of folks who will only get a portion of the balance forgiven.
