To be fair to Robert E. Lee he wasn’t Anti America so much as he was Pro-Virginia. If Virginia had sided with the Union he probably would have stayed loyal.

Now he put his loyalty to his home state before his loyalty to his country and that is the wrong thing to go about it, but I don’t recall Lee ever being one of the firebrands who drove the secession in the first place…

He ended up leading it and becoming rather infamous for that.
