There was also the 500 Euro note, of course, made because of pressure from the Germans (from what I understand). They discontinued these a few years ago because of the obvious money laundering problems, where you could fit a million Euros in a small bag.

There’s a very cool second or third season of Mission Impossible where there is some gambling going on and folks are dropping thousand dollar bills into the pile. Interestingly, they actually looked real, rather than like the standard monopoly money that they typically used in those scenes. Turns out that they didn’t discontinue the 1000 dollar bill until 1969. Man, I would love for those to come back in fashion! I know it would certainly make the drug trade easier.
