I think you’re right - it was a total extrapolation (which I did note.) The last big protest in Oakland (not counting the recent police killing last week of a young man in Hunter’s Point) had similar circumstances.

BART Police shot and killed a man, Oscar Grant, lying face down on a BART platform, hands behind back, everybody watching; they moved the cop trial to LA; the filth walked with involuntary manslaughter, and so “riots” broke out, mostly broken windows and other b.s. vandalism; most arrested causing problems were out of towners.

I actually thought the verdict was just in that case. Intent to kill was not at all clear and it did seem to be a tragic screw-up. Now that cop and killed someone, and he did have to pay for that, but it was not murder.
