And by the way, I don’t disagree with Gerard’s overall point. It shouldn’t be the responsibility of Borders Books to stand up against radical Islam. But you know, when every other major institution in America (colleges, newspapers, television, magazines, and government) has preemptively surrendered to the cartoon jihad, maybe they’re the only ones left.
Unfortunately, as another reader pointed out in an email, Borders has been appeasing radical Islam for quite a while:
I don’t know your age so I don’t know how likely it is that you remember that Walden Books took the same cowardly approach with Rushdie’s “Satanic Verses.” Despite a hail of criticism they refused to stock ‘Satanic Verses’ for months. The yellow streak in that company has been there for a very long time.
