One thing for sure: This is not going away. More and more people are determined to get the truth, and will press to get it. Why should the president and his team stonewall this legitimate and proper request. Is there indeed something devastating to keep hidden?

Please, please go away!

Pat Boone is still with us? And he's on the nirther bandwagon? Man...

There's a lot of people who are going to look purty dang stoopid if Obama ever releases his birth certificate. I guess Pat Boone just joined that club.

This issue died for me when Hawaii said they have a birth certificate on file for BHO. Unless someone can produce some real evidence that the state of Hawaii made it up, it's still a dead issue to me.

Pat who?

All we need now is Mel Torme and Rosemary Clooney to chime in and they will open a Congressional inquiry for sure.

Charles, you are not really giving any weight to this, are you? Are you being sarcastic, because this is more like scraping the bottom of the celebrity barrel than any endorsement of merit.

If Boone carries any gravitas, we are going to have 80 year olds protesting in the street of DC looking for the birth certificate.

Scary.

He's a politician so everyone knows his pledge of transparency applies to others and not him.

If I have to produce my passport, my driver’s license, my birth certificate, for things like leaving the country and returning, buying and selling and leasing and renting — all the things ordinary citizens are required to do all the time — why then, in the name of decency and equality, and, in the “open” and “transparent” approach to government Obama promised, should our elected leader not do the same?

Wow! Who knew you had to produce a birth certificate to buy, sell, lease or rent anything? I bought two homes and sold one, not to mention rented several apartments, a car and lots of movies without producing my birth certificate. Never had to produce one to leave or enter the country, either, just a passport ... though I'm pretty darn sure I had to produce my birth certificate to get that.

He got it right toward the end of the article.

And consider. If, by the end of his first term, Barack Obama were proven to have been an illegitimate president, history might just hold him accountable for:

# Dismantling America’s free markets
# Taxing the higher-earning middle class into despondency
# Spending and taxing the nation into bankruptcy
# Imposing socialistic, government-run health care
# Granting amnesty to multiplied millions of illegal aliens
# Seriously weakening our military and encouraging our enemies
# Enacting crippling and fraudulent “global warming” laws
# Promoting abortion and same-sex “marriage” into permanent legitimacy
# Throttling religious speech with phony “hate crimes” legislation

Now if conservatives would just concentrate on these things instead of the birth certificate, maybe we can make Obama a one term president.

If it's proven that Obama wasn't born in this country after you smash him over the head with all this other stuff, then that would be icing on the cake. But to focus on the birth certificate now when there is so much other stuff that Obama is doing wrong is just crazy.

In a Metal Mood: No More Mr. Nice Guy is 1997 album by Pat Boone in which Boone covers hard rock and heavy metal songs in a jazz/big band style. Boone promoted the album by appearing in leather clothing (and, at that year's American Music Awards, wearing a dog collar). He succeeded at propelling Metal Mood onto the Billboard record charts (making it Boone's first hit album in 35 years), but it did not please some of his longtime supporters who consider the heavy metal genre in bad taste, or worse. [1]

His cover of Ozzy Osbourne's "Crazy Train" would later serve as the theme song for Ozzy's reality show, The Osbournes. His effort to give rock songs a swing treatment was imitated later by his contemporary Paul Anka in the album Rock Swings.

Who's laughing now?

He was Ozzie's neighbor...

f there's anything missing from MTV's reality sitcom ''The Osbournes,'' it's Pat Boone, the foulmouthed family's former neighbor (remembered fondly by Sharon Osbourne on a recent episode). Though the show's theme song, ''Crazy Train,'' sounds a lot like Boone's tongue-in-cheek 1997 cover of Ozzy's metal classic, it's actually by Boone soundalike Lewis Lamedica. ''I'm flattered,'' says Boone, ''but I wish they had used me. I would have done it for free.''

Exec producer Greg Johnston laments, ''We never suspected Pat Boone would give us that.'' Despite the occasional loud party, the '50s popster has kind words for the Osbournes, who were his neighbors for three years before moving to their MTV-friendly pad elsewhere in Beverly Hills in 2001. ''I miss them terribly,'' says Boone, who regrets that he never invited the family over for dinner. ''Come back, Ozzy, come back!''

re: #164 Iron Fist

This is really an inmaterial issue. Suppose they finally get the mint, original Obama birth certificate and it lists Kenya as his birth country. Now what? Does that really mean he isn't a natural-born Citizen? No. Congress could pass a law (as they did with McCain) and define him as natural born. That would be the end of the matter. They aren't going to impeach Obama over this. The Supreme Court won't remove him. They don't have the authority to even if they wanted to.

So you have spent all this energy and frustration to, at best, get a footnote in a book about the Presidency noting that Obama shouldn't have been allowed to run for the office. Why do people keep missing the point that this issue became moot the moment Obama was elected? It might could have gotten him disqualified if it were proven that he isn't natural born (whatever that is) a year ago, but no one is going to remove a sitting President on this kind of technicality.

Ughhhh.....I didn't miss the point.

Did you miss the part where I said that people shouldn't dwell on the birth certificate issue? I actually pointed out all the other things that people should be fighting Obama on.

Hugely useful for hunting bad guys, I should think; makes it harder for them to find your position, and keeps you from being disoriented by the concussive effect of your own gunfire, especially indoors. Also, preserves your hearing over the long-term.

If I were in charge of the Land Warrior stuff for the Army, I'd want to put a lot of attention on developing compact, efficient suppressors, and/or good hearing protection that does not affect low-level hearing (see, e.g., Surefire's "Fox Ears").

Screw the birth certificate. I want to see his US and Indonesian passport or visa records from his trip to Pakistan and I want to see his college applications. At age 18, he had a 3 prong way to go on his citizenship. He could have affirmed his US citizenship and become a US citizen. He could have affirmed his Kenyan citizenship and become a citizen of Kenya (possibly with dual US citizenship). He could have affirmed his Indonesian citizenship and become an exclusive citizen of Indonesia. What he put on his college apps and what passport he used to go to Pakistan or alternatively visa records from the US showing he applied for a US visa would settle the show. He was an 18 year old dope smoking crack head at the time. They do not always choose wisely and sometimes try to game the system. I regard it as a distinct possibility that he attempted to game it to get favored treatment for his entry into college. Being from a "foreign" country like Indonesia or Kenya would get his college diversity brownie points. Knowing this he may have put that down as his citizenship to increase his chances of getting in.

The Kenyan birth thing is interesting but by no means a show stopper. I will take the word of the Hawaiian officials who said that they have seen and examined his vault copy and it corresponds to his released record of birth at face value. That thing reminds me too much of the bedpan conspiracy with James II of England and the Glorious Revolution. If a Kenyan certificate were to pop up, I would want some real authentication. However, I do find it interesting that his Kenyan records are locked up tighter than a bull's ass in fly time. Something someplace smells like a cow patty on a hot humid day.

Not in the state of Taxachusetts unfortunately:

CHAPTER 269. CRIMES AGAINST PUBLIC PEACE

Chapter 269: Section 10A. Selling, giving or using silencers; confiscation and destruction

Section 10A. Any person, other than a federally licensed firearms manufacturer, an authorized agent of the municipal police training committee, or a duly authorized sworn law enforcement officer while acting within the scope of official duties and under the direct authorization of the police chief or his designee, or the colonel of the state police, who sells or keeps for sale, or offers, or gives or disposes of by any means other than submitting to an authorized law enforcement agency, or uses or possesses any instrument, attachment, weapon or appliance for causing the firing of any gun, revolver, pistol or other firearm to be silent or intended to lessen or muffle the noise of the firing of any gun, revolver, pistol or other firearm shall be punished by imprisonment for not more than five years in state prison or for not more than two and one-half years in a jail or house of correction. Nothing contained herein shall be construed to prohibit a federally licensed firearms manufacturer from selling such instrument, attachment, weapon or appliance to authorized law enforcement agencies for law enforcement purposes or to the municipal police training committee for law enforcement training. Upon conviction of a violation of this section, the instrument, attachment or other article shall be confiscated by the commonwealth and forwarded, by the authority of the written order of the court, to the colonel of the state police, who shall destroy said article.

Not to mention all the "Sin" taxes democrats want on everything that moves or breathes.

Maybe that'll be enough incentive for us to vote the douchebag out next time. You have no idea how badly I wanted him to be picked as Secretary of State... It's selfish, but I'd be happy to let him screw over foreign relations if he'd just stop screwing up my state (commonwealth, for the sticklers out there.)

I was in a thrash-death metal band that did a cover of the Seseme Street song. If we'd ever gotten around enough to actually make an album I'd say we'd have put it on it. It was too funny.

I was at a party once and I heard a rather clumsy attempt at a jazz version of that song by the band there.

Semi OT: I was watching the easter seals telethon in 1980, I think it was, hosted by Pat Boone and Mary Frann. Jan and Dean were on and after their performance, Pat and Mary came out and started chatting with them. Pat said something about Jan and Dean being rock n' roll pioneers like he was. Jan, or Dean, I forget which, started going off on Pat; how dare he compare himself to them, how dare you call yourself a rock n' roll performer, etc. Pat was speechless, Mary was pissed, but kept smiling and reminding everybody why they were here. Then they went to a commercial. Cringe tv at it's finest, let me tell you.

How can anyone be sure of either position. We have no proof that he was a US citizen or that he is not. Isn't that right? Hmmmmm. I just got my drivers license renewed and guess what....I had to provide proof of citizenship. What is wrong with producing a birth certificate for someone who is making decisions that affect the lives of millions of people? Hmmmm.

so the next post mocks people on the right using name-calling

isn't this name-calling of Pat Boone just as derogatory ?

he is entitled to his opinion

and for all it's worth
I think the element he hangs with
SHOULD keep up the pressure on 0bama

I bet he was born here, I myself would just like to see what is so embarrassing and have it aired like dirty laundry

remember, the left does not play nice
and neither does America when push comes to shove
just who firebombed Dresden and incinerated Hiroshima ?

all in the name of restoring civility to the world

and restoring civility by playing nice to the left is never going to work
the words
Senator Franken ring a bell
Speaker Pelosi ?

these are folks that NEVER dialed back the rhetoric
and THEY are in power

perhaps forever

The British RAF primarily--and it's not something of which they are terribly proud. Not the best example you could have used.

BTW, of all the senior British general officers during the war, only one was never awarded a peerage for his service--Arthur Harris, head of the RAF Bomber Command. His decision to bomb Dresden had a lot to do with that (though it was Churchill who approved the plan and gave the order)

While you're nitpicking, why don't you take a second to say something nice about American women?

Afaic 'America' continues to mean 'United States of America' until our southern neighbors produce world-class 21st-century products. That would be a great thing and I hope it happens.

Or, heaven forbid, until we muddle ourselves up as badly as our neighbors have done to themselves.

I've just read through the comments here and am uncomfortable with the tone of this thread. Too much mockery, way too much name-calling. I thought LGF was supposed to be better than this. So Pat Boone writes about The One's b/c, who cares? He has every right to do so without being mocked for it.

Making fun of people for their personal opinions doesn't elevate anyone and is bullyish.

I don't think Boone was that far out there on Obama's stupid statements about our country. No other sitting prez has ever said what he's said to foreign powers.

That's half right. He has every right to spout birth certificate craziness. He does not have the right to do it without being mocked.

If he does something worthy of mockery, he deserves to be mocked. The whole birth certificate issue itself -- and anyone who promotes it -- deserves ruthless, unceasing mockery. It's a constant embarrassment, it's stupid beyond belief, and it needs to stop.

He made an amazingly horrible cover of Fats Domino's version of Blueberry Hill.

But it wasn't as bad as his cover of Little Richard's "Tootie Frutti". I kid you not - he actually sang it. Slowly (shudder).

I had gained a lot of respect for him when he "went punk" a few years back. I thought that he was trying to show everyone that clothes do not make the man, it's what's inside that counts. But when the fundies threw a tantrum, he backed down, said it was all a joke & dumped it. Even if it had been just for fun, it was a little lame to cave like that.

I realize that by showing it, he's letting the screwballs dictate his actions, but really, what can they say once it's been released?

He's not letting the screwballs dictate his actions, he's letting the screwballs discredit themselves. It's classic Sun Tzu - don't waste energy defeating the enemy when he's defeating himself.

335 livetotell  Tue, Jun 30, 2009 6:51:43pm

Being perhaps an older member (59), I remember Pat Boone for most of my life . And I remember him as a decent Christian man who made decent songs , who supported the military and patriotic traditions , who did Christmas shows . I don't remember any scandals that he personally was responsible for although I'm sure many of you will try to prove me wrong.
He is entitled to his opinion just as much as anyone in this group and I couldn't help notice that out of 100 albums the most absurd was chosen in order to denigrate a man who at one time personified American ideals.
Well I don't blame anyone because I imagine that most of you are too young to remember Pat Boone. But shouldn't you research the man before you start smearing him?

338 gregb  Wed, Jul 1, 2009 8:34:32am

Celebrity licensing for online ads is the next big advertising wave. Expect to see all sorts of mashups "localizing" appeal using local-only recognized people. The celebrity or sports star typically has little to do with the online ad other than they or their agent agree to the ad by cashing a modest check.

This would probably have been a wise move for Obama during the campaign. But, he took the risk and was elected anyway. Now he has NOTHING to gain by releasing his documents. So, Charles' Sun Tzu analysis is dead on.

341 Giant Foreign Devil  Wed, Jul 1, 2009 4:57:27pm

OK, so he's not going to release the docs. The nirthers will continue to push the issue, and be marginalized for it... along with anything that the press can associate with them.

That's not a problem for me if it's their troofer views being put in the crazy box, but when legitimate criticism is lumped in with fringe beliefs...
