internet filtering in the saudi entity
When we had our light-hearted exchanges with Arab News editor John R. Bradley, one of the charges he made was that LGF was blocking comments from “ordinary Saudis.” I explained the reasons for this to Bradley, but in standard Arab lapdog fashion he continued to make the accusation anyway.
“What are facts to one such as I? You are but ignorant white trash! I go now to stroll the Corniche!”
An enlightening new study from Harvard’s Berkman Center for Internet “”http://cyber.law.harvard.edu/filtering/saudiarabia/” TITLE=”Documentation of Internet Filtering in Saudi Arabia”>Saudi Internet filtering. They don’t simply block out “adult” content; the study shows that the true aim of the Saudi oligarchy is to keep their subjects as ignorant as possible, especially on matters relating to women and non-Islamic religion. And it’s working.
So far the Arab masters don’t seem to have discovered weblogs, and this bears out an observation I made some time ago when I discovered that LGF gets a huge number of search engine hits from Saudi Arabia looking for p0rn0grafy. Since they’re blocked from real pr0n sites, they end up here. Imagine the shock.
For instance, this morning we got a hit from a twisted Saudi freak looking for “arab+girl+brutal+rape.” Bradley? Was that you?
