Sarah Posner @sarahposner

At First Baptist Jacksonville with @julieingersoll.

Joel Rosenberg is here, closing out the church's pastor conference, talking about "dangerous moment" we live in.

Gingrich is here but won't be speaking.

Rosenberg: "as a Jewish person our team didn't get it the first time Jesus came."

But, says Rosenberg, we are coming to a "Romans 11:26" moment when all of Jews will be saved. He rejects replacement theology.

Rosenberg now discussing "signs pointing to major war" with Iran.

He's warming up to why non Christians need to be saved-- he thinks this is an endtimes war.

Standing ovation as Newt introduced.

It has long annoyed me that Joel Rosenberg is the author of one of my favorite series (guardians of the flame) while Joel Rosenberg is one of the more racist/dominionistic a-holes I know. They are two different people, and the latter sometimes remembers to go by Joel C Rosenberg. But most people drop the "C" and so I'll get interested or excited only to realize it's C being, well, himself.

I suspect this is yet another case of C doing his thing.

Not quite. This is in reference to Roman Catholic Dogma on birth control. Christian teachings has nothing to say on the subject. Rome has added it's feelings, and there are other churches as well, but at it's core, there is nothing in core Christian beliefs on the subject pro or con.

Christianity itself is simple. What churches make out of it? Not so much.

With Catholics? No. The Church has long maintained a worldwide stance on contraception that has no interest in color or border. You may not like it--I don't--but race doesn't enter into it for them.

Possibly for some of the groups that have begun to drop the Protestants' hundred-year-streak of acceptance of birth control.

If that was read, then each of those places violated the legal requirements to sustain their tax exempt status as a religious organization (501(c)3).

Under the Internal Revenue Code, all section 501(c)(3) organizations are absolutely prohibited from directly or indirectly participating in, or intervening in, any political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) any candidate for elective public office. -- IRS link

Remember that, according to their way of understanding the world, women are simple, easily-led creatures that can't have even the option of birth control, lest they be tempted to use them and go against God. So the Church, in its infinite wisdom, must be like a good parent and keep such things out of their reach.

Not only are their employees not being forced to use contraceptive services -- the instition supplying the insurance policy for their employees isn't even being forced to *pay* for contraceptives. If insurance companies wrote another policy special-for-Catholics that doesn't cover contraception, it would be *more* expensive, because prenatal care, labor and delivery, and neonatal care are WAY WAY WAY costlier than a birth control prescription.

cATHOLIC gODWIN OH NOESZ

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced last week that almost all employers,
including Catholic employers, will be forced to offer their employees’ health coverage that includes sterilization, abortion-inducing drugs, and contraception. Almost all health insurers will be forced to include those “services” in the health policies they write. And almost all individuals will be forced to buy that coverage as a part of their policies.

Catholic employers are in danger of being thrown in spirit prison by the fetus-slicing Black Muslim Dictator and his Panther Storm Troopers of Death. Run for your lives, your souls are in danger.

Florida's popular Sen. Marco Rubio is trapped in a hot political love triangle.
There is his longtime political dalliance with Newt Gingrich, with whom he has swapped emails and exchanged ideas for years. Then there's Mitt Romney, one of the first prominent figures to endorse Mr. Rubio in his 2010 Senate campaign before it was fashionable—and before Mr. Gingrich did.

I'm loving my greenhouse. I debated about moving the herbs indoors because they don't really need the protection but I love being able to pick handfuls of fresh herbs without suiting up go go out in the wind and rain. 15 feet away from the stove, lights, no shirt no shoes required, Quite a luxury.

There are lots of translations of the Bible. If you don't like one, use another.

Even better, there are multiple versions that do (and do not) include various books. (Judith, anyone? Or Baruch? How about 3d or 4th Maccabees?)

Nope. The important discussion is the tight rope immigrants walk in dealing with the pull of assimilation particularly in younger folks and its conflict with traditional (and backwards IMHO) cultural norms and traditions. It is an important discussion that should take place without deteriorating to hate and insult. Nonetheless, it does bring in to focus some rather barbaric traditions of the cultures in question, whether or not you believe they are mainstream or merely corruptions.

Apparently, he isn't too happy about a Saudi being the President of MSA either. In fact he has a preference that the President of the Group be an American. And apparently, there are also some influential families in the OKC Muslim Community that usually have influence on this.

So, what happened? Many of the Students are Pre-Med or similar, and don't have the time ability to be President. The Petrol Engineer did.

He also outright stated that the Saudi in question is probably responsible for the frostiness of the group. He called the nation "cold." He also said other things against SA.

The Tanakh canon was closed by the Great Assembly (Anshe Knesseth Hagedolah) at the beginning of the Second Temple era. The books of the "apocrypha" were written after that time and therefore they are not included in Tanakh.

Actually no. Honor killing is different in some ways, and the fact that this one was carried out by the son (the brother of the girls killed) is an important aspect of the crime. Honor killing is not unique to muslims by the way, however, there are aspects of Islamic culture and law that do make it possible and accepted within some societies. By the way, the muslim community is Canada is not shy about calling this an honour killing and speaking out about how disgusting an act and practice it is. While honor killing has roots in the same neurosis as domestic violence, honor killings speak to a deeper hold that said neurosis has over a family, a clan, asociety rather than an individual.

re: #99 Kragar (Proud to be Kafir)

Yeah.

However, I now know why the US Muslim Community seems resilient against radicalization.

We tend to be well-off, and when combined with less anti-Muslim sentiments than the rest of Europe, there is loyalty to the US, if not all its policies. Muslims in the US tend to be willing to be at the metaphorical barricades.

While we may share much in common with the UK, on this, we are their polar opposite. Part of why I am weary of the direction the UK is going (among many, many other things).

So, Mitt...how's that "self-deportation" thing working out?

In South Carolina the Hispanic population had skyrocketed over this past decade, growing by 148% compared to 43% nationwide.

But the economic downturn in the United States hit Hispanics more than any other demographic, and a new and strict immigration law left many undocumented workers leaving the state and country altogether.

Enacted in June 2011, Act No. 69 made it legal for South Carolina police to stop anybody they suspect of being in the country illegally and made it a crime to give shelter or transport to an undocumented immigrant.

This matches the cultural pattern described by the term 'honor killing', which many murders that Pam and the Gang have jumped on don't. It's all related down at the roots, but if cops and social workers and such understand the nuances of specific motivators and patterns like this, it's bound to be useful.

Not that the whys and wherefores are much use to the victims.

I must say, I suspect that this change is actually, if it's really happening, is geared not to be conciliatory to Muslims, but to create a missionary's tool that flies under the radar.

Arab and Turkish Christians have their own translations, and won't be changing to the Wycliffe to please anyone. Western Christians won't be using copies in Arabic or Turkish. I suspect that the target audience is a Muslim potential convert.

The only difference I see is that we've got a fancy name for this sort of killing, and we prefer not to think about the number of women and children killed out of a sense of shame, honor, rage, etc. by men they're related to in the US every year.

Hell, at least 350 children under the age of five get killed in the US every year, and more than 50% of those are killed by a parent.

And that's just the kids, under age five. Sick.

They see accommodation as giving the game away.

But my post really was all about the site you used as your source. Back when that National Guard Chinook carrying those 20+ Navy SEALs was shot down last summer, businessinsider.com hosted number of posts by a crazy woman who insisted that Barack Obama had orchestrated the shoot-down to keep the SEALs from telling "Teh Troof" about the killing of bin Laden.

And right before Christmas when the National Defense Authorization Act was passed, that same sight hosted posts by deranged columnists who insisted the NDAA was intended to turn America into a police state.

They've got some real loons at that site, and I therefore consider it unreliable.

Pretty much what happened with Alinsky's reputation is the result of the 2008 election season effort to destroy Obama's reputation by way of Alinsky. The initial assault was done against Hillary Clinton who wrote her thesis paper related to Alinsky. Long story short. As usual a lot of false information was put out by the the vast right wing conspiracy media machine.

My sister's computer had something similar happen 'bout a year back. She had forced it off the night before, thinking it was bugged because it was taking too long to turn off. Turned out to be that it'd been doing updates and she'd interrupted the process. Rebooted a couple times and it straightened up and flew right.

It ended with Elizabeth Taylor saying good bye and walking out a door from one of her movies..

No, their full employment was a lie only made to seem real by the war the Lilliputian Neo-Cons started with the peaceful kingdom of Blefuscu. Whenever it looked like peace might break out, they faked an attack by Blefuscu to keep up their poll numbers.

I have Windows 7 on my newest desktop and it's been great. The laptop has Vista and that was the first time it had a problem. The other desktop has XP64 but the problem is with the video card or the motherboard. I replaced the motherboard earlier and now I need to get one of these because it needs a different size power plug.

Depends, computer aging has slowed down in recent years as processor power stopped increasing in leaps and bounds. Used to be the thing was obsolete the moment it hit store shelves, but now it seems like they're aging pretty well.

LaserDisc. Basically proto-DVDs, the players were insanely expensive back when Betamax and VHS were still fighting it out. I remember them still using those in schools into the mid-90s, since you could select chapters and look at extra material that VHS couldn't provide at the time.
