Rand Paul Hauls Out the Tired “Sarcasm” Excuse on His Comparison of Gay Marriage to Bestiality

But he sure didn’t sound like he was kidding
Wingnuts • Views: 34,370

Someone on Rand Paul’s staff must have realized that he stepped in it yesterday by comparing marriage equality to bestiality, because today they’re going for that hoary old “sarcasm” excuse so beloved of right wingers who put their feet in their mouths: Rand Paul Walks Back Talk of Cross-Species Marriage.

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) on Wednesday appeared to suggest a link between the Supreme Court’s rulings on gay marriage and marriage between a human and a non-human, but later walked back that suggestion and said it was a joke. […]

Paul’s office said Thursday that the senator was making a joke, according to Slate’s Dave Weigel. “Sarcasm sometimes doesn’t translate adequately from radio conversation,” a spokesman said.

For the record, here’s the audio of Sen. Paul’s remarks; judge for yourself. (I can’t detect even a slight hint of humor in his words.)

Rand Paul is quite eloquent and speaks with an intellect and grace not often seen in these days.

NOW THAT IS SARCASM!

The “sarcasm” excuse, aka “You people weren’t supposed to hear that!!!”

Rachel ain’t buying it, either.

The whole conversation is about the slippery slope that will result if the definition of ‘traditional marriage’ is changed. No sarcasm there at all, he was being very serious.

Rand is such a punk.

If you say something in a public forum, own it.

“Glenn Beck and Rand Paul wonder if Gay Marriage…..” Right there is all you need to hear. You can imagine the rest.

From the CNN article I linked to in the last thread.

“Sarcasm sometimes doesn’t translate adequately from radio conversation,” his communications director Moira Bagley said.

Remember, kids, this clown is supposed to be one of the more “serious” contenders for the 2016 GOP Presidential nomination.

And I would’ve gotten away with it too, if it wasn’t for you meddling kids.

Sorry, I was watching Defiance and thought it was a documentary. /

That’s actually Steve Benen, who is my favorite blogger. I’ve been reading him since he had The Carpetbagger Report. He was an intern in the Clinton WH. Very smart and funny guy. He writes MaddowBlog (along with a couple of others at times).

The modern-day Don Quixote does not tilt at windmills; rather, he spars with strawmen. On dead threads, no less.

This is from Hot Air’s comments:

For the governors, Walker, Jindal, and Perry. From Congress, Paul and Cruz. I’m sure there’ll be at least one unconventional outsider type who gets in(maybe Bolton?). That’s a pretty solid field actually. Honestly we don’t need a dozen candidates up there. It’s quality, not quantity.

I assume he means ‘Solid from the perspective of being able to win the GOP nod”, not the general election.

“Quality, not quantity.” I’m not sure what sort of quality they’re going for here. Alive? Breathing? Body temp above room temp?

Perry: ‘Unfortunate’ Davis ‘Hasn’t Learned From Her Own Example’ About Being A Teenage Mom

And yet Hot Air thinks he’s a solid candidate.

Whoever the GOP runs in 2016 better have some way of reaching women, or he’s toast. Forget minorities, that’s over, but he’s got to be able to reach women.

What are the chances? Who in the GOP can connect with women?

Newt’s connected a couple of times, but I don’t think that will help him in the long run.

Oh wait, that’s exactly what she did learn.

Dear Goodhair,

Fuck you very much.

Sincerely,

Wendy Davis set a hell of an example for her kid. Yeah, she was a single mom at 19, living in a trailer home. She’s been open about that. She’s ALSO been open about how she took a chance and went to community college to become a paralegal to give her child a better life. She then got a scholarship to Texas Christian University and then put herself through Harvard Law.

That’s an example to be proud of. Fuck you Perry.
