Trump Touts Bogus Poll From Birther Conspiracy Site World Net Daily to Show Minorities Support Him

The GOP leader gets even more ridiculous
Politics • Views: 66,768

Remember when Donald Trump built his right wing constituency by being a highly visible Birther conspiracy advocate? And then refused to even discuss it in this election season? (And got a complete pass from the media on it?)

Well, today he’s citing a very dubious poll conducted by a little-known company for the crackpot Birther conspiracy site World Net Daily, purporting to show that minorities are “lining up” to support him.

This is the website that on Christmas Day this year named President Obama the “Muslim of the Year.”

Both Trump and the WND article curiously fail to mention that these “minorities lining up” to support him are all Republican voters — and blacks and Hispanics are very much a minority constituency in the GOP. The vast majority of these racial/ethnic groups — and indeed, all minority groups — are Democrats, as this 2015 poll from Pew Research shows.

So Donald Trump is touting a phantom of his own imagination here — just like the Birther conspiracy theory pushed by World Net Daily.

UPDATE at 12/29/15 12:25:13 pm by Charles Johnson

OK, this is pretty hilarious. Here are the crosstabs for this World Net Daily poll — and have a close look at the section on “race.”

That’s right, folks; the number of people who identified as “black” and said they’d be voting for Trump is… wait for it… FOUR. Out of a total number of TEN.

It’s a landslide!

UPDATE at 12/29/15 12:38:00 pm by Charles Johnson

Here’s some relevant information on the pollster who runs “Clout Research,” Fritz Wenzel, who previously conducted a series of Birther-related polls for World Net Daily: WorldNetDaily’s Ethically Challenged Pollster.

There are “I’m not a racist, but…” racists and “I’m not a racist!” racists. Trump belongs to the latter category.

So, I dug around and found the methodology and questions (do not linked).

The same poll results would argue that Trump gets 40% of the Jewish vote. We’d just have to ignore that all of 5 people identified as Jews (that’s question 3 crosstabs btw).

On race? How many were identified as black? 10 out of 447 polled. Of the 10, 4 polled for Trump.

You want small sample? There you have it.

He wasn’t exactly overperforming among minorities. He was polling as would be expected among GOPers who happen to be minorities.

Four.

You’re reading that correctly. Four.

You can run the same BS poll results with Jewish support too. He got 40% with all of 2 Jewish supporters.

I distinctly remember from my Statistics class that a sample size of <30 is worthless.

We had to make up our own survey for this class. My survey question was “How often do you get your car washed?” (surveyed car owners only)

And “Clout Research” further claims a MOE of 3.35%? With 444 surveyed? The reality is that based on statistics (and I’m going back 20+ years on this, so someone please check), you’d take 1 over the square root of the sample size. So you’re looking at closer to +/- 4.7%, not 3.35%. That’s a far less precise poll than claimed too.

As VB points out, this is even worse when you start dealing with the small sample sizes for the religion and race crosstabs.

Yes, yes they are.

A these kind of delusions cost us all as our democracy grinds to a halt.

Regarding Trump: He’s in Council Bluffs tonight for a good reason. Western Iowa is the stronghold of the religious right in that state, where The Family Leader roams freely under blue skies and rolling fields. CB itself is a mix, being the baby sister of Omaha across the river, but nevertheless that is Je$u$ territory, and that is where Cruz will derive most of his power if he happens to win the caucus.

If the political freak known as The Donald™ TRUMP® somehow makes the general election and does get hammered* badly, just think of all the broken hearts he will have left out on the trail. All those believers that buy into him already seem to have him elected. He tells them he is winning, winning and winning…he’s got the numbers, he’s got the polls.

It was bad seeing the know-it-alls that lost to Obama in 2012 cry in their statistics and own echoes.

TRUMP will be that much greater, because a lot of sad sacks are buying in. But only among the actual voters, even the conservative hacks like Rove and Morris seem to be a bit quiet. This will be way more crying by the true believers, they have their boy now…not some foisted upon them Bush or Rubio.

*I am still having a rough time coming to grips with where in hell is the actual reality in Trumps run. So, I find it hard to judge where he really is in all this numbers wise with real voters. It all seems so fake and yet I get the feeling it all needs to be taken as real. Who knows?

At least Reuters puts error ranges on its graphs. Now, that can be misleading in itself, but at least they are trying to illustrate the inherently noisy nature of these kind of measurements.

RCP should do the same, but as they are combining multiple polls I think they should color in one standard deviation. If you look at their composite score board, it’s pretty clear that Rubio, for example, polls just about the same across all the polls, while Bush and Fiorina’s variation is almost as large as their result.

“If you were voting in your state’s primary or caucus election for the Republican nomination…”

Of the “Democrats” and “minorities” polled, how many said Trump for either the lolz or because they think he’d be easiest for the Dems to beat?

Plus—supposedly, Trump got 5 Democratic and 12 “very liberal/liberal” nods. Who are these 7 very liberal/liberal non-Democrats?

You’re giving his supporters way too much credit. Deep down they know he’s a con man, and they don’t care because that’s a feature they can use later. Trump is an intentionally disposable candidate, they can use him now while pretending he’s some honest standard bearer for “real conservatismt”(tm). Then, when he loses they’ll suddenly and magically remember everything that he’s said in the past that runs opposite to their ideological dogma. That way they can turn around and tell themselves, with a straight face, “if the Republican’s had only nominated a conservative.” He’s being positioned very deliberately as a method by which conservative Americans can learn nothing from this election, because they last thing they really want is to be forced into a position demanding introspection.

They don’t want to govern, or for gawd’s sake actually be responsible for anything, they just want to bitch.

I expect a full court press in Iowa by religious leaders, to get the pew sitters out on Feb 1 and go stand in Cruz’s corner at those caucuses.

Saw this earlier today & thought it was interesting (and good for pissing off bigots):

New York’s forgotten mosque
Evidence showing the existence of a century-old mosque in the heart of New York is a reminder that Muslims have long been part of US history

From the 19th to the first half of the 20th century, that enclave was the economic and cultural centre of the Arab diaspora in the US; that is before it was demolished in order to build a tunnel and then later, in the sixties, the World Trade Centre.

These few blocks were home to a large number of immigrants mainly coming from what was then known as “Greater Syria” (Bilad al-Sham), a region ruled by the Ottoman Empire that nowadays includes Syria as well as Lebanon, Jordan, Israel, the occupied Palestinian territories and a part of southern Turkey. […]

For many years is was assumed that the neighbourhood was only ever inhabited by Christians. Since there was no record of a place of worship dedicated to another faith, it was assumed there had never been one. Then a few months ago, a professor at the University of Colorado Denver doing research on early Islam in the US came across an article entitled “Mohammedans now have a place of worship here”.

If Trump does start to look like a winner in the nomination race, I expect a lot more Republicans will accept the movement:

NC Congressman Rouzer: ‘Trump is probably going to be president’

U.S. Rep. David Rouzer, a Republican from Johnston County, offered a surprising prediction for the presidential race in a recent radio interview.

“Trump is probably going to be president,” Rouzer told Tyler Cralle, a Wilmington talk show host. “I think he’s going to be the nominee, whether he’s president or not.”

The comment makes Rouzer one of the rare Republican leaders who say Trump might win. Rouzer has not publicly endorsed Trump or any other presidential candidate.

OK, that Rabbi has certainly invented a new and original form of religion-based denial: he doesn’t deny the murder itself but rather defines “Jews” in an extremely narrow fundamentalist sense of the word, excluding the secular Jews, converts, Jews of patrilineal descent etc. Voila: most of the murdered weren’t Jews. It’s like magic.

Yeah, the longer his lead holds, the more likely his nomination and possible election are.

2) retreat to the middle of the road, relatively liberal positions he used to espouse

My belief is that as Trump continues to make himself the center of news every day he will actually succeed in his quest. Simple repetition not only of his outrages but just by name recognition alone.

Name recognition counts. Getting back to the Reuters polling data, look at this chart:

polling.reuters.com

I know that there are self-described progressive activists who like to think that young people will run away from the militant religious right of the GOP, and that might be true.

But it won’t be true of Trump.

Trump’s celebrity status is such a positive for him that even young women will vote for him.

Strategically rolling out Ivenka is very smart. She’ll be much more effective for her father than Cruz’s kids will be for Cruz’s campaign.

I get that you want to conflate cynicism with some species of hard wisdom, but have you even looked at the sampling on that graph you’re citing? It severely under samples blacks and hispanics vs. 2012. The black electorate is assumed to be almost half the actual turnout of 2012. It barely sampled black women at all, to the point where their numbers are statistically insignificant and don’t display. It over samples the 65 years old + age bracket by 11% (27 vs 16).

People might be deplorably stupid on average, but it’s hard to believe Trump can attack damned near every minority demographic there is, in the most crass terms imaginable, without suffering some real electoral consequences.

re: #70 Nyet

One example of what I was talking about in my #75. Emphasis added:

Jews who disappoint

So it has been way too often in the Jewish realm. I saw a YouTube video featuring a Rabbi Yosef Mizrachi and was blown away. It was called “It is illegal to fear” and in it he talks about how G-d watches over each and every one of us, guides our lives in every detail, and so we have absolutely no reason to fear anything or anyone. I was very strengthened by it and began checking out more of his videos and found them equally uplifting.

And then we had the incident a couple months back where a house fire in Brooklyn resulted in the deaths of seven young children from one family. If we ever needed to hear words of comfort, needed some insight into and understanding of how such things can happen, it was in the face of such unbearable tragedy.

So what did Mizrachi do? He blamed it basically on the fact that too many observant women are wearing overly stylish wigs. Yes, the cause for the hideous death of seven sweet innocent young children in their sleep on Shabbat was the wigs being worn by frum women.

As if that wasn’t disgraceful enough, when a young woman tweeted him to take issue with him saying that, he tweeted her back calling her “filth” and other names, accusing her of not observing Shabbat (when in fact she does) and of being a bad Jew.

chicagojewishnews.com

That was all I needed to know to move him into the “Asshole” column.

I guess we’ll just have to ride this one out and see how it all comes out.

I’m not making any guesses on turnout. The past few elections I have found very disappointing as far as my fellow citizenry and their voting habits.

When the tea partying GOP won big in 2010 it was very telling of the hollowness of the DNC. With a President who won in 2008 by overwhelming numbers, the Democrats were unable to keep a huge backlash from sending our government into dither mode these past 6 years.

You can pick apart any poll you want to, but I find it more than curious that poll after poll is showing Trump to be far more popular, and against Hillary, than progressive strategists appear to want to acknowledge in public.

re: #79 CuriousLurker

Controversy
In early 2014, prior to a lecture tour in London, concern was expressed about statements by Mizrachi in his previous lectures relating to the behaviour of secular and religious Jews during the Holocaust[15] suggesting that Down’s Syndrome and autism are “punishments for sins committed in a previous life” and [16] among others.[17] Mizrachi was criticized for his views while he explicitly maintains are “Torah sourced.” His views also include lectures using Bible Codes to “explain” the Holocaust.[18]

Mizrachi was the subject of criticism by a group of Modern Orthodox Jews who pointed out that such views are neither authoritative nor representative of mainstream contemporary Orthodox Jewish thought. Some members of this group sought to stop his lecture tour. As a result, at least one of his planned lectures in London was initially cancelled.[19] Mizrachi replied to members of this group via his Facebook page that those who dispute [his] views “cannot be Orthodox” and that “such views are universally held as part of Orthodox Judaism.”[20]

The #LOL #GrifterFAIL part is that the Twitter account he RT? It just scrapes up any old shit, including Holocaust denial stuff like this:

Oopsie! Now I have no idea if that Sephardic rabbi actually said that or not since the video is in Hebrew and I’m not inclined to trust whoever translated it, but if you’re going to get all outraged and claim that you’re “stand with Israel” and have Jewish business partners1, then you might want to check the Twitter timelines of the sources you RT.

Embedded Image

1. I wonder if having Jewish business partners is like having black friends or saying you’re only against the building of a mosque because of traffic/parking concerns…

Yosef Mizrachi is an actual person but from my Googling of his name seems to be a raving wingnut of the Ben Shapiro mindset.

I’m not giving his supporters as much credit as the credit I give the media that suckles on The Donald™. The media is making all of this in my opinion.

That is why I say I have no idea what is going on because as in this discussion topic, no one can be believed as far as polls, no one contests his BS in the media, nothing about Trump is real to me. He’s like a movie, it all seems written.

But if you are the American that gets your numbers and thinking from the general media in 10 minutes or less, all they see and hear is TRUMP®. And in this time of America that seems to work. They like this movie script. They also do not think like you.

It just perplexes me…’tis all.

If you look at the latest PPP results, there is no meaningful difference between Trump/Cruz/Carson against Clinton. And Rubio’s difference (he actually landed on top) barely is larger than the margin of error.

In other words, in Clinton vs. Republican, whoever you stick in as “Republican” may not make any difference at this point.

Yet Trump is clearly moving up, not just in the Republican popularity poll.

In yesterday’s news, Gallup’s apolitical poll for the most admired, Trump tied with the Pope for #2.

Think about that for a moment.

Are you telling me that all those people really admire Trump for his “blood” comment wrt M.K.? Of course not (except for the self-away misogynists out there…)

Celebrity is now becoming so central to American politics that I can’t see how any politician can battle Trump on substance alone.

After the warning, the rockets were fired from a position about 1,500 yards off the carrier’s starboard side and in a direction away from passing coalition and commercial ships and the traffic lane, the official said. The rockets were not fired at the Truman and other ships, only near them.

While the official said the Iranians were “clearly not” targeting ships, the action was “unnecessarily provocative and unsafe.”

Je$u$ wants you to vote for Cruz:

Ted Cruz Scores Another Influential Endorsement in Iowa

Ted Cruz added to his lineup of Iowa endorsements on Monday, pulling in the support of Shane Vander Hart, a fixture in the Iowa conservative blogosphere.

The backing of the “Caffeinated Thoughts” editor adds onto a list of Iowa allies that now includes U.S. Rep. Steve King, radio host Steve Deace and social-conservative leader Bob Vander Plaats.

Vander Hart, who started the conservative blog in 2006, had previously endorsed Bobby Jindal in early November, but the Louisiana governor dropped out of the race just 11 days later.

But with just a month until the caucus, Vander Hart gave out his second endorsement of the cycle, noting the need for a Republican to stave off Donald Trump from winning the nomination.

[…]

So the question is… is Trump bigger than Je$u$??

Another very smart person telling us that we shouldn’t think that Trump is fascist:

Donald Trump Isn’t a Fascist; He’s a Media-Savvy Know-Nothing

But if historians of Fascism can’t write down on paper what it is, they can recognize it when they see it. And when Vox’s Dylan Matthews interviewed a number of them before Christmas, they agreed that Trumpism doesn’t meet the standard. Fascism, in its original form, had no time for parliamentary democracy, peace, or limited government. It exalted “direct democracy”—the incarnation of the popular will in a great leader—war, violence, and popular engagement in a totalitarian state. Trump, for all his bluster, hasn’t yet called for the repeal of the U.S. Constitution. He has expressed deep skepticism about U.S. military interventions overseas. And, despite his infamous comment that a Black Lives Matter protester at one of his rallies deserved to be roughed up, he hasn’t endorsed the sort of systematic violence that characterizes Fascist movements.

I’ve read the first book in the series that it’s based on. Decent space opera with a better acceptance of science fact (Newtonian physics for the ships travel, almost realistic drives, how differing gravity levels change growth and bodies, etc). Correction: An earlier version of this article contained a significant error that resulted from failure to distinguish the difference between the agency’s recommendation and the commissioner’s final ruling. The bakers were not, as previously reported, punished for threats by others against the couple, as the agency had recommended. They were ordered by the commissioner to pay damages to the couple for emotional harm caused by their unlawful discrimination. We regret the error, and we would like to thank Eugene Volokh for clarifying the distinction.

Yeah, I don’t get it at all. It makes no sense for people to complain about the media giving him all this free airtime if they reward them for doing it by willingly being part of the audience.

Something I will always remember from my first year of law school, my property law professor said, “all stories start with a bad decision” when explaining how cases eventually end up in court. I’d never thought about storytelling like that before, and now I can’t not think of it like that. Whenever I sit down to outline a story among my first thoughts is “what’s the bad decision.”

Movies have definitely taught us that digging that thing up will constitute the bad decision. Let’s just bury it again and move along… maybe put in a parking lot there, just in case.

Unfortunately for him, the only open college jobs at the moment are Ball State and Texas State. I don’t see him going to either of those schools. And I really don’t think Texas will bail on Charlie Strong already. So, barring Saban retiring or something else weird happening, Chip may be sitting out next season.

The Story of Menstruation is believed to be the first film to use the word “vagina” in its screenplay.[3] Neither sexuality nor reproduction is mentioned in the film, and an emphasis on sanitation makes it, as Disney historian Jim Korkis has suggested, “a hygienic crisis rather than a maturational event”.[7] The menstrual flow was depicted as snow white instead of blood red.[5]

Page 40, lines 15-19 state clearly that posting was not part of determination.
Item 3 contains nothing that contradicts lines 15-19.
