UPDATE: New Video of Photographer Choked and Body-Slammed at Trump Rally

Choked out
Politics • Views: 50,589

Following up on our earlier article about the Secret Service agent who choked and body-slammed White House photographer Chris Morris at a Donald Trump rally today, Morris has released the following statement:

“I’ve worked for nine years at the White House and have never had an altercation with the Secret Service. What happened today was very unfortunate and unexpected. The rules at Trump events are significantly stricter than other campaigns and make it very difficult to work as a photographer, as many others have pointed out before me. I regret my role in the confrontation, but the agent’s response was disproportionate and unnecessarily violent. I hope this incident helps call attention to the challenges of press access.”

And here’s another view of the violent incident, just posted on Twitter:

It still amazes me — and not in a good way — that the media have allowed Donald Trump to pen them in like sheep. Journalists should have refused to continue covering his events en masse when he demanded this absurd restriction. But then, they would have lost their big election season money-maker.

I hope that the media gets sick and tired of the way that Trump person treats them. I would like to see the media go after that Trump person in a way so that he cannot touch them. Think outside the box ladies and gentlemen of the press.

I wonder if we’ll see a class-action lawsuit against Trump, brought up by everybody who’s been beaten and abused at his rallies.

Attention people proclaiming they won’t vote for Trump:

Unless you are prepared to show up in November and vote for whichever name has (D) after it, your principles are a joke.

A media boycott would be appropriate. We should demand it especially in light of what the CBS mogul said. It won’t happen and I don’t watch anyway. I hate myself.

It’ll never happen. Last weekend Chuck Todd was understandably upset at how a NBC correspondent was being treated at a Trump rally, However, his fee-fees got hurt when people (including readers of this blog) pointed out on Twitter he helped create this mess by refusing to confront Trump and Trump’s odious behavior.

It’s all about ratings and advertising bucks. They are so scared of essentially losing their meal ticket, they’ll let Trump do whatever the hell he wants.

I’m unsure what the exact legal basis would be - incitement? Defense would be freeze peach, of course, and Plaintiffs would have to show specifics of DT inciting or encouraging violence, either on paper or verbally. However the publicity might bring attention to a real issue.

But then, they would have lost their big election season money-maker.

They would have lost their jobs. There is no “news” media in America any more. It’s been replaced with the much more profitable “reality” entertainment product.

17
Mattand  Feb 29, 2016 • 6:06:26pm

re: #1 PhillyPretzel

Slightly off-topic: the other problem is news is essentially entertainment anymore. You live in Philly. Have you noticed over the years how KYW has been cutting in music cues to set the mood on there stories?

Drives me effing nuts.Worse than the fake Telex machine noise they used to run behind the anchors. The point I’m trying to make, however, is that an all news radio station that’s been around for fifty years feels that people won’t take them seriously, unless they borderline Morning Zoo their pieces.

You then look at how the MSM handle obvious freaks of nature like Cruz and Trump and a pattern starts to emerge. “Don’t want to piss off our star attractions! That’s what brings people in.”

On-topic: the Secret Service has been botching protecting Obama for nearly eight years, to the point that it’s dumb luck nothing has happened to him or his family.

Now, we’ve got a Secret Service agent beating the shit out of a member of the press.

I know they’re overworked and underfunded (particularly with half the country losing its shit over a black President), but man; it’s hard not to picture these guys watching Fox News and then “forgetting” to check the perimeter of the White House, or showing the press who’s in charge.

Trump is keeping the media out of the general population because he knows there would be tons of photos and video exposing how extreme his followers are if he let the media roam free.

And he’s TERRIBLE on camera to boot. (I caught a few brief seconds the other day when I was searching for the remote.)

I’m pretty much done with MSNBC—wish there was someplace of value for Rachel to go—I hate that she’s buying into the TRUMP crap. She’s so good on causes/stories like Flint, but her TRUMP coverage takes me back to her early days on the network when she had to have Pat Buchanan as a regular feature. She was new then, so I tolerated it/changed the channel, but if she has no more say about her show now than to cover TRUMP FOR the bulk of her hour, I’m out.

OT, but very interesting:

You have completely missed my point. This has nothing to do with gun play. It has to do why people are voting for Trump. These people have been good citizens all their lives. Paid their taxes, bought a house, sent their kids to schools, went to work each day and they see the lives going down the drain because some executive wants to see the stock price go up for the next quarter. No wonder these people are voting for Trump. Anyone from your school of thought has nothing to offer them but bromides about “creative destruction”.

This is a comment made in response to fairly standard free-market fundamentalism in a prior comment.

Take a guess at where it’s from before you check the spoiler.

Having just attended a Hillary event last Thursday where there were tons of Secret Service, they certainly didn’t act like that. Before she got there, they came around, told everybody what they could and couldn’t do (i.e.—don’t rush the stage, keep the aisles clear, etc.) and they were extremely alert and aware of everything going on. But she walked around the room talking to people and taking selfies for a good 20 minutes after she spoke, and nobody got roughed up or thrown out.

Either she qualifies for a better detail, or her “rules of engagement” don’t include that she wants them to act like giant dicks.

It’s also quite likely that her detail has been around her since her time in the White House. They know her routine and make accommodations in that regard.

Trump’s detail is newish, but there’s no excuse for thuggish behavior by any security at these events. It’s completely unprofessional and conduct unbecoming.

But the problems in covering Trump’s rallies isn’t just the security confrontation today, it’s that the media has given up its freedom in exchange for limited access - to view the rally from inside a cage.

That’s not journalism.

That’s hagiography.

Things got so shitty when Jesse was governor. He made the press wear IDs labeling them as Jackals (he really did), he got bent out of shape any time a woman wouldn’t put up with his shit. You could always tell when he was about to blow because his head would start to bobble like one of those little statues.

Tim Pawlenty was the leader of the house at the time so that added even more suck to a crappy time. I think Norm Coleman was the mayor of St. Paul then too. He got elected as a democrat then changed parties. I’m so glad those days are gone (and really hope they never come back).

re: #38 BeachDem

Not actually that shocking.

I live in a fairly purple county by KY standards, and most folks operate under the impression that they deserve their entitlements, but there’s so many other undeserved people that they’ve been cheated somehow.

The welfare queen myth has gained far more traction than the more abstract “principles” relating to markets and regulations. The former has a strong emotional component: its gratifying to believe you’re the kind of hard worker who makes the country work…and that the country would reward you if it weren’t for all the takers.

Folks aren’t so dumb they haven’t noticed all the manufacturing leaving the country, or the way the new labor force ducks and weaves to keep you getting benefits…nor do they miss out that the people at the top claiming this is natural and “free market” ain’t losing money. But they’ve been enculturated with this dichotomy of “I am deserving” versus “those people are takers”…so their new resentment doesn’t wash away the older, embedded resentments.

Clinton was doing it in July

Hillary Clinton’s campaign used a rope to keep journalists away from the candidate on Saturday while she walked in this small town’s July Fourth parade.

The ensuing photos of journalists, including a CNN reporter, being somewhat dragged by a thin white rope as Clinton walked down Main Street caught fire online.

SuperDuperLoserTuesday is tomorrow. I’m predicting Trump takes 8 of the 12 states, Cruz barely notches a win in Texas, but will only score a couple of delegates more than Trump based on how I understand the allocation. Figure Rubio to come in third in most of the states, and Carson will be going, “Oh, it’s THIS Tuesday?”

It’s all about ratings, they say. This is the time when Andrew Lack, formerly having taken about CBS News, and set up Microsoft-NBC News under the good graces of Jack! the shlub who ruined GE, is now doing the bidding of Comcast. All this wall-to-wall crap, the mass firing of more and more black people from the channel, the empowerment of Morning Joe, all this is all about ratings. And make no mistake, Trump is good for ratings. Lack spins it as all about the fact that MSNBC had fallen off, they want “hard news” now. Especially when the “hard news” is all about the right wing.

I don’t know how many states Rubio will finish second in; my initial guess is he will edge out a fading Cruz in most of them, but that’s just my guess, and I could very well be wrong. Either way, there is a very good chance that Rubio, at the end of the day, will have zero wins, two at most of minor states, while Cruz will win the largest prize of the day, Texas. So Cruz will have no reason at all to step aside to let Rubio consolidate the anti-Trump vote, there will still be three or more candidates in the race come March 15, and as a result Trump will win most of those big winner-take-all states and virtually clinch the nomination. Then the GOP will have to seriously decide if they are going to back Trump to the hilt, give him nominal support only, or throw a lot of their weight behind an alternative candidate taking a third party slot.

Take a side trip to Konstanz, Germany. Beautiful town on a gorgeous lake. It’s not a terrible drive from the Zurich airport. There’s some amazing mountain trails outside of Zurich and it’s a lovely city.

Basel is also an ok city that’s a quick jog from Germany and into France. I stayed at an inn near Basel with 5 star food that was AMAZING. If you’re interested, I’ll go back and look through my email for the name.

I worked in both areas (Konstanz and Basel) and took vaca in both. In Basel I took a 3 hour drive to the French alps. Beautiful!!

If you’re going to Brussels, you’re a 4 hour drive to Paris, around the same to Versailles. Both are worth the drive.

The train system rocks. You can go anywhere and everywhere easily.

There’s an app called maps.me that allows you to download maps for offline use. I just downloaded it the other day. It allows you to save your data usage.

Hi Charles
First of all, thanks for the privilege of using your blog, I appreciate it. I have been registered for years but have only posted a couple of pages (about music) in that time. I knew about you from long before LGF through the music I like to listen to.

I am not a troll, and I didn’t come to stir up shit, but I see this incident way differently than you do.

Have you seen this IG?

A video posted by Celeste Chorniak (@cchorniak) on Feb 29, 2016 at 10:55am PST

It is clear to me that Chris Morris either pushes or chest bumps the Secret Service man just before the take down.

How do you know what the SS man is thinking? Do you think it is possible that there could be armed white supremacists at a Trump rally? Who was behind the agent that it seems like Morris wanted access to? If I were a Secret Service man at a Trump rally and a belligerent white guy seemed bound and determined to get to the black protesters behind me, and then shoved me- well….

And just on the face of it- I see a pushy white man exerting his privilege in a very disrespectful and possibly violent (the maybe shove/bump) way over a very polite POC, and getting slammed. He continues to do so until WHITE authority figures show up, then he is all of a sudden totally deferential.

Well, that’s about the size of what I had to say, I look forward to what you think.

Sometime in the next few days I am going to make a page with some choice YT video of Dukey and Cobham and Scofield in Montreux!

re: #223 Tricho

Hi Tricho, your post sounds like a lot of well meaning people. Your tone is often applied to discussions about whether police actions or killings are excessive or not.
“The perpetrator was rude!” Or, “The suspect was mouthy!” Or, the classic, “He resisted!”
Here is a whole list of reasons black people were killed by police.

I am reminded of Sandra Bland who was arrested for no good reason and ended up committing suicide in her cell.

This quote is from an essay focused on people of color, but the principle holds true for everyone, even journalists:

Failure to be a sufficiently obedient and deferential person of colour can not and should not be justification for violence and murder at the hands of police.
