The Most Repulsive Right Wing Comment Yet About the Israel Controversy

Wingnuts • Views: 58,922

Today we have a winner for the most vile, repulsive comment about the current controversy over Israel and the United Nations, from far right pundit/loon Kurt Schlichter.

There’s something especially ugly about casually exploiting the Holocaust just to attack his political opponents, and to attack Jews who don’t agree with his extreme right wing views. This guy is absolutely consumed by his hatred for President Obama, to a very disturbing degree — and he supports an incoming president who has emboldened antisemites and neo-Nazis on a scale we’ve never seen before in American politics.

And by the way, I don’t recall the Nazis ever giving a $38 billion dollar military aid package to their victims.

In other news, Israel’s attorney general has just opened a criminal investigation of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for bribery and fraud.

Such a repulsive comment to make. Stupid and repulsive. Anyhow, should be interesting to see what the investigation finds. I can already hear the crying that this is Obama’s doing but I imagine Bibi’s been investigated for some time. I won’t feel too bad if this does bring him down. The man has shown nothing but contempt to President Obama from the start and to me it would be karma if he were brought down by his own doing.

Which is probably why Bibi is generating such a shitstorm about the Resolution; to distract attention away from the investigation.

That would be my guess and the stupid Congressional Republicans and Trump care only about opposing Obama so they’re not paying attention to that.

There is a Larger Truth, that Obama is a Muslim Fascist who wants Israel wiped out so that Christians cannot experience the Glory of the Rapture.

Any statement that reinforces this view need not burden itself with being factual.

It’s a pattern. Netanyahu himself lost me some years ago when he said of Israel’s pre-67 boundaries, “We refer to those as the Auschwitz borders.”

I’m trying to figure out how the pieces fit between Trump’s embrace of Putin along with his noisemaking regarding Israel, and I’m having a really hard time with it.

This particular re-alignment is nearly too grotesque to consider.

re: #11 Wendell Zurkowitz ((slave to the waffle light))

There’s more than a few Israelis who are willing to overlook Christian fundamentalists’ belief in the End Times and apocalyptic beliefs that Jews must convert/be perfected and that Israel fits into their prophesies because they think this is support for the Jewish State that they need. It’s a devil’s bargain, and these are some of the consequences.

Trump’s support includes more than a few of these End Times extremists whose support for Israel is not based on support for Jews but on the need of Jews to fulfill their End Times body count so they can get themselves Raptured.

Trump’s ideas meld perfectly with evangelical apocalyptic expectations as the battle of Armageddon nears. He promises to seize power and to use it for them. He claims he would restore religious liberty to evangelicals. He would prohibit Muslims from entering the country. He would defend Israel at all costs. He would fight abortion by adding conservative justices to the U.S. Supreme Court. He would rebuild the American military. He would destroy the nation’s enemies. He would keep individual citizens well-armed and prepared for battle.

This is a man, in other words, who is not just seeking to beat Clinton. He is seeking to wage a real-world battle against evangelicals’ enemies and a spiritual battle against the Antichrist.

And this is why Amedia tells all who will listen that to support Trump is to ensure that the United States “stays under the favor of God.” To refuse to support Trump, then, is to defy God.

If Armageddon is coming, and many evangelicals believe it is, there can be no one better to lead the United States than Donald Trump.

Amedia is Frank Amedia, who is Trump’s liason for Christian policy. He thinks Trump’s going to herald in the Second Coming.

And guess what - that’s not good for Jews or Israel (which would have to be destroyed to fulfill the beliefs). So tell me again how any of this benefits Jews or Israel.

I can only guess that enough Israelis are enlightened enough to know it is all a morbid fairy tale and have decided not to look a gift horse in the mouth.

That’s just it - they will take whatever support they can - because they’ve historically had so little support from elsewhere. They just don’t see (or want to see) all the strings, and the consequences.

The only thing I can chalk it up to is that Trump wants to cut the same ‘deal’ with Israel as the one he made with Congress and the one he seems to have made via back-channel with Russia:

‘I get to do whatever I want, and as long as you don’t get in the way of my doing whatever I want, you can do whatever you want.’

Trump is obviously about one thing - shaking down anyone who isn’t his friend for as much money as he can haul away. Putin wants to occupy a few former parts of the USSR? Bibi wants to expand settlements even further?

No problem. As long as Trump gets to build new hotels in any conquered lands and gets regular, glowing praise from the conquerors. A mutual partnership of convenience and opportunism.

Historically, authoritarians of different stripes flock together even when they have contradictory goals, because they’re unified by a contempt for individuals and organizations that are egalitarian and open on a more basic level. The idea of an existential struggle versus another group of believers is exciting, life-confirming; the “liberality” of live and let live is not.

Hence much of the history of the modern Middle East.

I hate to be pushing a GoFundMe on here, but this is the family of one of my best friends. House fire. Lost everything. Niece’s boyfriend who was house/pet sitting was caught up in the fire and is on life support right now. As if we haven’t heard “Can 2016 suck any more?” enough already. Even if it’s a dollar… every little bit will help. If you can’t donate, prayers/good thoughts/etc. are much appreciated too.

And Charles, if this is against site rules, I apologize and totally understand.

Landlord left after he learned that the incoming water service is the city’s responsibility as soon as the line leaves the building, but the sewer is his responsibility until it reaches the main. Which is running freely. So tomorrow, with a yet bigger machine, they’re going to snake it in the other direction.

He had a man in the hole in the sidewalk. That means the hole is bigger than it used to be. It was a good-sized man, but not as big as the landlord, or he would have been in there himself.

Repeated tweet seems worthwhile, Debbie Reynolds is such a nice lady. Way back when I used to rent workout rooms from her studio on Lankershim and teach self defense. She was nice enough to encourage young dancers to learn a little self defense. How to be careful. Her studio was great though the neighborhood endured a decline.

It appeared the problem was caused by a routine in Linux that was created during a long dry spell of no leap seconds, so Linux was incapable of handling the addition. The result was servers locked up.

President Barack Obama’s administration declared Thursday that the area of Gold Butte in southern Nevada will be designated a national monument.

The national monument will include the site of the 2014 Bundy Ranch standoff, where Cliven Bundy had illegally grazed his cattle for decades and which has been a flashpoint for anti-government extremists.

re: #159 HappyWarrior

We’re on the same page buddy.

A lot of people in places like where I live don’t have access to Google or Facebook. They have access to our regional conservative leaning newspaper and FOX News Channel.

You have to have affordable Internet service for access to the Internet. (That’s why I am the only person in my town that has service, and even then it goes through an ISP in Jefferson City, Missouri.) You have to have cable service to be able to get cable TV, and the local radio stations are FOX or Christian programming.

Since no one wants to invest in Internet or wireless service across vast portions of the USA, it is not suprising that so many people who live in those areas do not have access to things like facts. (That is part of the reason I continue to fight for funding of our public library in my village, since it is the only other place in town with Internet service.)

Now that the War on Christmas is over for another year, FOX gets back to what it does best: The War on food stamps. This is the kind of news you get here. You want people to get real news for an informed electorate, then someone is going to have to either:

a) Invest in infrastructure improvements to Internet and wireless service
b) Ban people in places where I live from voting

I chose a).

Oh, goody, with the War On Christmas once again successfully won and presumably put away for the year — though sometimes, like your most-hated neighbor, Fox just leaves its War On Christmas lights up all year — the “fair and balanced” news network can get back to one of its favorite steaming piles of weasel poop: the notion that food stamp fraud is out of control because of course it is, didn’t you see the one surfer dude at the supermarket who bought all those crab legs with an EBT card? You know you did, because it was on Fox! This time around, the headline’s pretty subtle: Food Stamp Fraud at All-Time High: Is It Time to End the Program? Here’s your fact-free ranting from Tuesday’s Fox & Friends:

Fox claims — without citation of course — that “$70 million of taxpayer money was wasted in 2016 due to food stamp fraud.” How incredibly shocking! It must be time to end Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP) — the replacement for food stamps — altogether, since obviously everyone using the program is cheating the American Taxpayer!

In the end, she doesn’t get a choice because of her seesawing and indecisiveness. But the exciting life led to fixing the crisis at the time.

And yes, I am one of those annoying people who ships. Guess who in this case?

They only care about Israel and Jews as a matter of attacking the left. If Bibi or any Israeli leader attacked Trump the way he has Obama, their ugly and true colors would be showing here. Remember, it was Jim Baker who said fuck the Jews, they don’t vote fur us anyhow and it was Reagan and Nixon who employed Buchanan. These are who you’re throwing your lot in with Bibi.

Fox News wonders whether we should cancel food stamps because 0.09% of spending is fraudulent

A bit over 44 million Americans participate in the government’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, more commonly referred to as food stamps. That’s a higher number than in most years past, representing about 13.7 percent of the U.S. population, but it’s down from the high of 47.6 million in 2013, 14.9 percent of the population that year.

What’s incensing Fox News, though, is that 2016 saw a record-high level of fraud in the system, with $70 million wasted. The network hosted a discussion Tuesday morning with a simple conceit: Should the program therefore be ended?

In December 2013, a poll conducted by United Technologies with the National Journal asked Americans whether they thought that changing the rules to limit food stamp availability should be approved, even if it kicked 4 million people off the support system. Two-thirds of Americans said that was acceptable. How many would accept booting all 44 million isn’t clear.

I’m pretty sure that when we get nuked from orbit (just to make sure), this will be one of the reasons.

And the reasons I refer to is that some people simply think that throwing around catchphrases and terms of art makes them sound smart when it reveals their idiocy and inability to form a coherent or rational thought.

Kurt’s comment was asinine to start with, and his response to the Auschwitz Museum is uninformed pablum for the consumption of like minded Trump twits. In fact, it is part of Trump’s appeal - people who throw together a bunch of words and phrases and make it appear that they know what they’re talking about when reality is quite the opposite.

Reality is that most Israelis don’t care for Netanyahu. His hold in the Knesset is tenuous at best. He’s got 30 seats; his main rival has 24 (Zionist Union). Yesh Atid, Joint List, and Meretz add another 29. He needs a coalition of religious parties to maintain power along with the ultranationalist Lieberman who is pulling the strings at the Foreign Ministry.

TMUS even blew by Sprint to take the number 3 spot behind Tweelde-Dumb Verizon and Tweedle-Dumber AT&T (as Legere would say.) Go look at his Twitter feed-sometimes it’s a real hoot.

In a world full of shit, some shitting gets overlooked.

Obama today announced that he would be protecting 1.65 million acres of land, which is his right as President under the Wilderness Act and Antiquities Acts. This includes lands in Nevada and Utah that are held sacred by Native Americans.

So, of course, the GOP loses its collective shit.

They think that Obama has overstepped his power (he hasn’t). They want to sue (they have no grounds).

Failing that, they’re intent on amending the Wilderness Act and Antiquities Act and gutting them so that the energy companies, mining companies, and private businesses can trash the environment and lay waste to federal lands for their personal profit, while our national and natural heritage goes to crap.

Teddy Roosevelt could be an unlimited source of power giving that he’s spinning in his grave watching the GOP shred the very concepts he held near and dear. And that includes environmental protection - including the Antiquities Act he brought to fruition.

He says, “I know Joe, and he isn’t like this now, but when we were about 12 and played on the same stage once, Joe said to his dad ‘get me a Coke, I’m thirsty,’ and my dad turned to me and said ‘if you ever say something like that to me I’ll kick your ass so fast…’.”

It’s a minor miracle Joe turned out to be the good guy he is. Go to youtube and search for Danny Gatton 12 year old bonamassa. Danny was an unbelieveable Tele player who I think scared the shit out of the established C&W industry. Sad ending to a great talent. Joe had good folks around him.

Gatton is my guy. That man could play anything. I wish he was still around.

I still get lost watching his old videos.

Some nights you can see the gears in my head spinning. :)

The karaoke bands are the craziest. A list of 300 songs, and I don’t know what I’m playing until they count off.

Baruch Dayan Emet.

Seriously, this family has gone through so much, and so much over just the past week, to lose both Carrie and Debbie within hours is heartbreaking. So many people (mostly those who aren’t old enough to remember) know Debbie merely as Carrie’s mom, but Debbie was a tremendous actress and movie star in her own right.

I’m glad I’m not the only one that still wonders about the validity of the Ohio vote in 2004! Charlie Pierce is on my side:

“It’s no secret that I’ve always liked John Kerry more than do a number of people with whom I’d ordinarily agree on other things. I don’t think he ran a very good presidential campaign in 2004, but I don’t think he ran that bad a campaign, either. (And I’d still like a liberal application of sodium pentothal to the election officials in Ohio, starting with Ken Blackwell.)”

I heard a story that when Gatton was working and Buchanan wasn’t Roy would call in a fire alarm at the club where Gatton was playing.

They had quite the rivalry going on for a while there.

Isn’t Gatton considered the best guitar player no one knows, other than other guitar players?

Speaking of rare guitars. I picked up a guitar at a pawn shop a way long time ago that caught my eye in the front window because I had no idea what the hell it was as having never seen, read of or heard of before.

I thought at the time it might have been a Fender Mustang that someone cut into what this guitar looked like, but then the finish was in original condition showing no sings of modification.

I bought it for $65 and repainting the pawn shops sign on the side of the building. I was in art school at the time, and doing sound for a bunch of friends bands. I had wanted a guitar to learn on, and this seemed like a decent starter. I also discovered it was a 3/4 scale neck.

Many years later I saw a picture of Tina Weymouth (Talking Heads bassist) with a blue Fender that was exactly like mine. That told me it was an original Fender something-or-another. That got me to searching and a local Columbus Guitar guy told me it was considered a Musicmaster, sold at Music Land stores for beginners and they suggested them for guitar lessons. I did more digging and found it was also referred to as an Arrow and a Swinger.

A few years ago I needed bucks big time after being out of work and decided to dig it out and sell it as I no longer played it and had put it away for years. I took images and sent out emails to several vintage guitar dealers hoping it would be worth something.

About an hour after I sent out the emails I had gotten two responses. One of the dealers was Gary’s Classic Guitars in Cincinnati. They seemed more then interested and we set up a meeting where I drove the guitar down to Cinci. On the spot they offered me $1500 for it which was more than I had hoped. I had about $125.00 in at most. I took the deal. Had I had the original case they would have given me $1800.

A week or so later I saw my old buddy on Gary’s web site listed for $3875. Hey he has the connections and I figured he would mark it up so I had no issue with him pricing it that high. A month later I checked and it was already sold. I was happy that I had once had a true rare guitar. No idea what he sold it finally sold it for.

One guy I played with always mocked that guitar as a toy and worthless. I called him and told him the story of the deal, etc. I don’t think he believes me to this day. Fuck him. I won!

FUCKING 2016

Always in threes: George Michael, then Carrie Fisher (though it can be said she was the first of the three, it was just delayed a few days due to heroic measures), then Debbie Reynolds.

Fuck 2016, fuck this year so hard.

The Swinger was actually made from leftover parts - the bodies were leftover Bass V bodies that they cut that notch into to make them smaller and lighter.

IIRC, stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame are “sponsored” (IOW, the WoF foundation charges to put a star out on the Walk).

Yeah. I found out all about them. One of Leo Fender’s sales guys made the deals to use up the parts. I can’t remember the name right off.
