Trump Pressured Park Service Director to Back Up His Lies About Inauguration Crowd

So crazy
Politics • Views: 58,624

As if we needed more evidence that our new president is a pathological narcissist and bully, now the Washington Post is reporting that the morning after his inauguration he called up National Park Service director Michael T. Reynolds raging about media reports and demanding that Reynolds back up his dishonest boasts about the inauguration crowd.

Wow. This guy.

In a Saturday phone call, Trump personally ordered Reynolds to produce additional photographs of the previous day’s crowds on the National Mall, according to three individuals who have knowledge of the conversation. The president believed that they might prove that the media had lied in reporting that attendance had been no better than average.

Trump also expressed anger over a retweet sent from the agency’s account, in which side-by-side photographs showed far fewer people at his swearing-in than had shown up to see Barack Obama’s inaugural in 2009.

And today, on day 6 of his presidency, Trump is still raging about the size of his inauguration audience.

Yup. That story missed the point so badly it’s hilarious.

By the way, I’m digging the logo for the AltUS National Park Service:

Yo, POTUS Von Clownstick.

I see that your obsession with crowd size is ongoing. I’m glad to hear this. Harassing the National Park Service over the inadequate size of your inauguration day crowd is the least harmful thing you’ve done to date.

Let me just remind you of a few facts. You are the popular vote loser in the 2016 election, and your electoral college ‘landslide’ is a pitiful thing that depends on razor thin margins in three states after an election plagued with Republican ratfucking coming from all quarters, especially the Russians and the FBI.

You and your presidency are a malignant joke, war crimes waiting to happen, and a stain on US history that may never come out.

Have a nice day, and remember that millions of US citizens despise you from the bottom of their hearts for cause.

I think that’s what is driving a large part of this Executive Order bum rush, the dawning realization that whatever political capital he had after the election is rapidly losing value and his “honeymoon” was over before it really began. That every day brings the renewed worry that something is going to come up which will totally blow open the fetid core of his “landslide” victory. A memo, an audio recording, a video conference, something is floating out there that will torpedo his presidency like the Lusitania.

New Spacesuit Unveiled for Starliner Astronauts

Astronauts heading into orbit aboard Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft will wear lighter and more comfortable spacesuits than earlier suits astronauts wore. The suit capitalizes on historical designs, meets NASA requirements for safety and functionality, and introduces cutting-edge innovations. Boeing unveiled its spacesuit design Wednesday as the company continues to move toward flight tests of its Starliner spacecraft and launch systems that will fly astronauts to the International Space Station.

I think Trump will find that being the dog that caught the car will be most unpleasant for him.

It’s clear that Trump is a man who has lived his entire life in the “rich asshole” bubble where life is very good because the people around him always grovel to his wealth and power. Until recently, he’s had the absolute power to so order his personal life, and he has obviously done so.

That all changed when he was foolish enough to run for President and ‘win’. No president of the US has ever been universally worshipped and loved, especially in such manner as needed to satisfy Trump’s pathological urges on this point.

It’s entirely possible that mass marches and protests will be more directly effective vs. Trump than whatever can be done by Democrats in Congress, even if they do find their spines.

Trump’s obsession with the news can be used against him. If “POTUS Von Clownstick” and the like make it into the news thoroughly enough, Trump will see it, and his unavoidable reaction to it will not help him or the Republicans.

I’ve been taking good hard looks at Trump, and I’ve begun to wonder whether his health is a great as he’s been claiming. He has a bigger than necessary waistline and if the pics during his campaign are to be believed, he likes fast food quite a bit. For someone who claims to be in the “best of health,” these things are very concerning to me. I know it’s possible to carry a little extra weight and be healthy, but in Trump’s case, he appears to not have a regular exercise regimen and thinks he can regularly eat foods one wouldn’t expect a man of his age to eat. With the pressures of the presidency and his easily excitable nature, it wouldn’t surprise me if he would have a stroke or heart attack before he completes his first ( and hopefully, only) term in office. I’m not wishing something bad would happen to him, I’m just sharing my thoughts about his health and inactive lifestyle. Playing an 18 round hole of golf is not what I’d consider as one having a vigorous, steady exercise routine.

I read an article a couple days ago about a French journalist who is having a hard time “deciphering” Trump’s way of talking and translating it into French for use in France. The guy/girl mentioned that Trump’s speech lacks logic, he repeats the same thing over and over, and his mind tends to stray while he’s talking, making it difficult to understand what he’s trying to say. I’m American and a native English speaker, and I feel the same way when I listen to Trump—-it’s all a jumble of nonsense and doesn’t make sense to me. I’m also wondering whether other Americans also notice how disjointed, self-focused, and lie-filled his comments are. He has the job of POTUS, but he lacks even the most basic skills necessary to even begin to think about performing well in the position.

Just like most other brush wars, no one really wins a trade war. It’s a self-inflicted wound that causes internal price rises, a loss of external market share, hurts your middle/lower classes, and decreases corporate income. When you are retaliated against for initiating a 20% tariff on imports by a like number, it is the same as increasing the cost of your currency by 20% instantly.

I strongly suspect that if Bernie had magically won the presidency, the situation would be exactly the same as now, the only difference being the political leaning of those involved. It would still be the blind leading the deaf, total disorganization compounding upon itself daily, and a rush to turn back a lot of progress of the last century with the promise of some nebulous “better” alternative being passed in the indeterminate future.

Scottish Dragon  Jan 26, 2017 • 5:58:16pm

politicususa.com

All of these atrocities are, although seemingly isolated to the officials running the fascist cabal, spreading across the country among Trump’s fascist supporters. For example, in Pennsylvania this week a restaurant owner and Trump supporter ejected an African American college basketball player and his party and told them, “Trump’s president now so I can say what I want. You n*****s need to get out. I own three restaurants and I don’t need you n*****s’ money.” The young athlete and his party were in the midst of enjoying their dinner when the restaurant owner took note that they were not white and invoked “the Trump” prior to acting like it was 1950. This reference to “Trump’s president now” is being heard more often and it always accompanies some kind of bigoted remark.

In public libraries across the nation, the Trump-incited Islamophobia emboldened fascist religious bigots to scrawl obscenities and deface any publicly-owned library book about or referring to Islam. Using obscenities, drawing Nazi swastikas, racial slurs and all manner of other obscene comments only began after the Trump lost the popular vote only to become the fascist now occupying the White House.

On Saturday during the tremendous Women’s March, this author heard a group of white trash Trump supporters complaining about “that damn Constitution” people think gives them a right to protest. They were furious that Trump didn’t make an “executive law” at the inauguration letting real Americans “mow those communists” (protestors) down and give them an “American dose of lead poisoning;” a reference to shooting them en masse.

Actually, I’m going to disagree with you. The Berniebros would still be whinging, the only difference is about what. These guys won’t ever be satisfied with any politician, ever. Bernie would have said or done something to upset them - just as will happen with Alex Jones and Drumpf. It’s just in their nature to be contrary and to want a purer unicorn, same as Jones has a paranoia of government.

A Sanders presidency would probably have been bit of a mess. However, comparing this to the Trump shit show really is unfair to Sanders. For example, Sanders is not on record as wanting to play with the nukes, and the idea of him obsessing over inauguration crowd size is implausible. I also don’t think a Sanders cabinet would be remotely comparable to the zealots scraped out of RWNJ sewers by Bannon/Trump.

Nominating Bernie would have been unfair to the overwhelmingly amount of registered Democrats who favored Clinton over him. I hate saying it because I more or less agree with them on more issues in principle than not but there’s an anti-democratic element to those Berners. Not everyone who supported Sanders obviously but enough of them really think their love of Bernie should have overrode the large amounts of Democrats who did prefer Clinton. We would certainly be talking about gutting healthcare, the difference is that we’d be talking about a single-payer alternative that would never find the votes in Congress. And we’d not just be watching him withdraw us from TPP, but also talking about the need to “renegotiate” NAFTA and similar trade agreements or just withdraw from them entirely. Yeah. Still though, at least you were traded for something. If you’re cut, that means they couldn’t find anyone or thing of value for you.

Old college buddy who is a wrangler, hunter, loves his big trucks and snowmobiles and little cabin off the grid he has. He grew up in the eastern plains of Colorado and moved to Gunnison, CO to ski about the same time I moved there for school. Total redneck. Wears a cowboy hat everyday. Crazy dude, we all love him. One of my friends had a little band I worked sound for that played the ski towns for a few years and they named the band after this buddy of mine.

He’s been going off on Facebook with politics, which quite frankly I’ve never seen him do. It’s pictures of dead elk, his work trucks and Bobcat skid steers, and pictures of trees he planted on huge properties near Crested Butte.

I’m happy to report that he’s hates Trump with a passion and has been butting heads with his family and friends with reckless abandon.

Which, considering the incredibly low bar set by the term “cash considerations” as we have discussed, is incredibly insulting to the player being cut.

There are always those who surprise. We always took my dad’s oldest brother for more right leaning (still a Democrat) but he posts a lot of pretty lefty posts on his FB. None of my close family that I know of supports Trump. Some distant cousins on each side but that’s to be expected since the bigger pool of people you get.

Yes, I know. I remember one post where one of my FB friends was explicitly called out on “When was America last great?” His response was, “Back in the 1940’s.” In other words, when we had segregation, no womens’ rights to speak of, and rich white men ruled the entire world. Yup.

On that note, I do kind of wish our elected leaders, and those who can’t really be elected any more, would kind of put some stuff out on how to manage expectations of the daily Trump show. We see so much stuff coming out, it would be helpful to have some perspective of “Yeah, this is a really bad thing, but it’s going to be really hard for that to get through Congress, and here’s why. I am not a populist. I support unions. I think capitalism is the best way to manage an economy the size of ours. I think that capitalism is a tool you pull out to solve certain types of problems; it’s not a goal. Capitalism cannot be used to solve a problem where one of the endpoints is a person, which means that it cannot be used to solve education, health care, or feeding a family. But there are lots of things it can be used for, even inside those, such as coming up with the best drug for controlling Alzheimer’s.

The ski patroller killed in the accident at Squaw Valley was a longtime ski patroller at Winter Park in Colorado before moving to Olympic Valley to start a family and a new job. Tears me apart.

Even worse that he was killed by an avalanche grenade. Hugely random.

meanwhile in Texas earlier this week:
Lawmaker: Criminalizing Abortion Would Force Women to be ‘More Personally Responsible’

The Republican lawmaker behind a controversial bill — which could make it legal to charge women and providers with murder for an abortion — defended the proposal by saying completely removing access to the procedure would “force” women to be “more personally responsible” with sex.

State Representative Tony Tinderholt, of Arlington, said in an interview with the Observer that, if passed, the bill would reduce the number of pregnancies “when they know that there’s repercussions.”

“Right now, it’s real easy. Right now, they don’t make it important to be personally responsible because they know that they have a backup of ‘oh, I can just go get an abortion.’ Now, we both know that consenting adults don’t always think smartly sometimes. But consenting adults need to also consider the repercussions of the sexual relationship that they’re gonna have, which is a child,” Tinderholt said.

House Bill 948 would ban and criminalize abortions at any stage, direct state officials to ignore “any conflicting federal” laws, and would no longer exempt pregnancies as a result of rape, incest or fetal abnormalities. The bill would remove the exception for abortion in the state’s penal code for criminal homicide, meaning that women and providers could face charges as serious as murder for the procedure.

State Representative Donna Howard, D-Austin, said the procedure is a decision “that should not be made by someone who has no clue what’s going on.”

“That is so ignorant to think… that women are somehow irresponsibly deciding that they’re going to go ahead and get pregnant because it’s so easy to get an abortion,” said Howard. “… And for the Legislature to insert themselves in these decisions… it’s just baffling to me that he could have that lack of compassion and understanding for fellow Texans.”

When asked why the bill makes no exception for rape or incest, Tinderholt said he’s “a firm believer that God creates children in his own image, regardless of how that child is brought into the world, it’s created in his image, and how can someone want to destroy that?”

“I don’t think that there should be any exceptions to murder, no matter what. So, if this child was out of the womb and it was a child that was born out of rape or incest, no one would be OK with killing a child. I look at it like that child is a child in the womb, just like it’s out,” he said.

Imma betting he has no problems with the death penalty in Texas, though…

Has anyone asked Trump why Mexico would want to or be expected to pay for this mythical wall in the first place? If I build a wall on my property, why would I demand or expect my neighbor to pay for it? This is so bizarre.

Trump was never going to do that anyway. He was simply exploiting the overt white supremacism and racism among his own voting block. He and his staff knew that he could get away with a bait-and-switch and screw the same voters, who would be so stupid to find out that they were screwed.

It’s the worst possible con game imaginable, and with an unstable narcissist manic doing the con game to boot.

re: #278 allegro

But can Trump just do that? I kinda think not. Congress allocates X dollars to an agency/program to use to manage that program. I don’t see a mechanism for the president to just say “nope” on any piece of it.

The HuffPo article just says:
The Obama administration had already paid for the advertising. An HHS spokesperson told Demko that the Trump administration had decided to cancel the final installment, worth about $5 million, in order “to look for efficiencies where they exist.”

The Politico article it quotes says:

The decision to scrap Obamacare outreach and advertising came directly from the White House, according to sources.

And the yam’s best buddy in Congress added this swill:

“President Trump is signaling he’s the new sheriff,” said Rep. Chris Collins, (R-N.Y.), the president’s top congressional ally. “He’s been elected with a mandate. He’s not going to tolerate his employees contradicting and undermining his mandate to get this country going in another direction.”

politico.com

So, in answer to your question—I don’t have clue fucking one how they got away with it, but apparently they did. Sigh.

No doubt a rapist gets parental rights as well. And further access to his rape victim.

It’s only fair—she was probably wearing a short skirt. Ugh—I just made myself puke.

I just saw a Covered California ad. CA prob has it’s own, separate from the fed.

re: #251 thedopefishlives

Fun fact: I don’t actually know my own blood type. My parents probably do, but I’ve never asked. I’ve never needed to know, and the one time I asked to find out, I was told that I’d have to pay because it’s not part of a routine physical. I’m surprised it hasn’t been listed on any medical records up to this point.

Me neither! I’m 51 and I still have to call my mommy to find out.

I had to call my mom to find out that mine was actually not what I thought it was. (I had the positive bit right, vowel wrong.)

Was scrolling through here and reading comments about how Trump knows things will never get done. Was also reading what some of the legal challenges are about to be to his executive orders, memos, toilet paper, etc.

No, he has no clue these things are not going to get done. He is working with basically no advisors, not working with Congress, they’re all reeling too. No legal advisors, nothing.

He is totally oblivious to the fact that we can’t send troops to Chicago or force sanctuary cities to change. That torture is illegal. That a hiring freeze and a hiring initiative are in opposition.

That we kinda need a State department. He is blissfully ignorant of how the United States of America actually operates.

So, yes, he does truly believe everything he says and signs.
