Because this is abut raw power for the GOP, and country first be damned.
Every Ayn Rand wet dream in Paul Ryan’s head depends on complete GOP control, and the party isn’t about to let a little thing like subversion and treason get in the way of killing health care for half the country, destroying voting rights and blowing the deficit out of the water with tax breaks.

Here’s what pisses me off about him. He does these events with the DNC under the context of “unity” and then the next day I have to see on my friend who is a huge BB’s facebook page about what Bernie says is wrong with the DNC. I’m tired of his condescending lectures to a party he won’t join. The real reason why Bernie won’t join the Dems is pretty obvious to me. It would actually mean being held accountable instead of being with the Dems when times are good i.e. defending ACA but running away from them when times are tough i.e. what he did as soon as Clinton lost.

At this point, that’s all they can really manage and only because they had to nuke the filibuster. Even if McConnell is prepared to nuke the filibuster for legislation, Ryan has to first get enough votes in the House to pass anything. And that’s really the Catch-22 here: To get anything the House passes through the Senate requires bypassing the filibuster, but putting out notice that they’re going to dispense with the filibuster makes it harder for House Republicans to pass anything. When they could count on Reid to kill a bill or Obama to filibuster it, they could pass virtually anything they wanted. But now that it might actually become law, they’re suddenly gun shy in the extreme.

Felix Randomkitty Update Number Six:
I just got off the telephone with the veterinarian. She tells me that Felix is no longer on an IV. He was active yesterday, but is a little lethargic today. His blood sugar has been swinging from 60 (way too low) to 600 (way too high).
She believes he has turned the corner, but the blood sugar swings may be related to the fact that sometimes cats’ diabetes improve and only require diabetic cat food with no further insulin. She has discontinued his insulin as of yesterday and wants to observe him for one more day. She suggests one more day for him in the kitty hospital, to which I agreed. So Felix will not come home today.
I also asked her if it would be too much trouble if she could get a picture of Felix, herself, and the staff that saved his life, so I could post it here to Little Green Footballs.
“Sure!” she said. She will E-mail that to me, and I will post it here in a sidebar article summarising Felix’s brush with death.
So, one more day for the Kitteh of Chez Tumbleweed.

From the last thread:
re: #144 Skip Intro
I had a cat with kidney failure. I was going to put him down, but at the last minute I couldn’t do it.
I kept him alive for around 18 months by force feeding him and giving him subcutaneous fluids multiple times a day. I didn’t get a day off for the entire 18 months, and I imagine the total cost of keeping him alive would have bought me a late model pickup.
Still, I’m glad I did it, because up till the very end he was pretty much a normal cat. Plus his brother would have missed him.
So good luck with yours. It isn’t easy or cheap, but it’s even harder to let them go as long as there’s a chance.
I’m sorry to hear of your cat.
Pets, it turns out, are not much different than any other family member. The issue is deciding whether to euthanise a pet or continue treatment is rough, especially if you’re relatively poor.
When we first went to the vet over Felix’s diabetes late last summer, the vet seemed genuinely hurt when she concluded he in fact had diabetes; in all situations in the past she’s wound up euthanising cats with the disorder. She seemed mightily relieved when I asked simply, “Okay, what do we have to do?”
I also quipped I didn’t euthanise my wife… .

Now, let’s see. trump starts a trade war by adding a tariff to Canadian lumber being imported into the US. Of course this increases the cost for ALL lumber, from both Canada and the US.
So, now any lumber needed to build his wall is going to cost “somebody” a lot more $’s.
And the price of the wall goes even higher.
