Video: Keith Olbermann Signs Off With “Trump Is Finished”

And thus my work here is done
I used to love watching Countdown. Still haven’t watched his ‘The Resistance’ videos. Won’t believe Trump is finished until I see Congress actually voting on articles of impeachment. At that point he’ll try to fire Pence, make Ivanka his VP, and then step down…if that’s something he can get away with.
.@JamesOKeefeIII Hey, James! As a connoisseur of monumental faceplants, I just have to congratulate you on your failed attempt to scam the Washington Post. That was a truly monumental faceplant. One for the books.

O’Keefe royally screwed the pooch this time. Not only did he get caught, he got caught in such a way that the WaPo basically showed the country that it takes vetting of confidential sources seriously, which totally blows the whole “They’ve pushing an agenda!” BS right out of the water.

Here’s what I think: I think he originally thought he had WaPo in a “gotcha”, akin to his epic “takedown” of ACORN. When WaPo revealed that they were on to him and completely blew his fake story apart, he panicked and ran with the next best thing he had, regardless of if he was truly convinced it was damning or not, in the hope of doing enough damage control not to lose face amongst the wingnuts.

I suspect that it’s something closer to the middle: What we’re seeing is the “sizzle” that was supposed to sell the “steak” (aka the Phillips “sting”). Use these videos to show that the WaPo has a “hidden agenda,” then cap it off with a WaPo reporter being caught on tape giving assurances that they’d go to press with unverified accusations. He probably was counting on the WaPo sticking to the policy of not publishing “off-the-record” info to sell his hackjob once he got Phillip’s footage and realized she’d been found out. But WaPo did go to press with it, so now he has to go forward with the “sting” but without any substance to it.
Sad reality? There’s plenty of wingnuts out there who will buy it.

The sadder reality is that the likely result is that for the next week or so, there will be constant repetition from FOX and every Republican personality interviewed on every channel about the ‘evidence’ and ‘questions’ surrounding the WaPo and their reporting. CNN and every media source will devote hours of programming to discussing the ‘allegations’. Guest after guest will be brought on to ‘discuss’ the evidence, which will consist only of repeating the same lie loudly. Trump will tweet about it, and that will spark another couple of days of ‘discussion’. Senators and Representatives will be asked about it and say that their constituents are ‘concerned’ about this ‘evidence’.
In the meantime, the Senate will pass a tax bill affecting every American and Republicans will elect a pedophile to the Senate. This will be afforded minutes of coverage at most, while the American mass media talks about lies as if they might be true for hours.
Democracy dies in darkness.
It is just a matter of time now before Trump really *does* shoot someone in the middle of Fifth Avenue and 37% of America dutifully defends it.
Sigh.

I’m not sure O’Keefe has that sort of influence anymore, too many “stings” that have ended up being busts has killed his utility to wingnuts above the echo chamber crowd. Even Drudge already has his front page declaring this “sting” a wash and Breitbart’s not reporting on it at all.

You may be right, but FOX has made stories out of less. And FOX only has to say it once for Trump to tweet it. And once that happens, CNN will slavishly talk about it.

re: #103 Skip Intro
They must have made a mild criticism of him.
Remember, Murdoch was not for Trump.
Back to Olbermann: I think he is doing the right thing. And I think he’s right. As to the first, he has started to seem repetitious, he’s reached as many people as he’s going to, he’s put out the book, and it’s time for him to do something healthful for his own sake.
As to Trump’s end: The timing is unknowable at this point, but I agree that the steamroller of justice is beginning to mow him down. (Insert that clip from A Fish Called Wanda, which I cannot be bothered to find.) I base that not only on the various facts and scenarios Olbermann has elaborated, but also on the increasingly frenetic way Trump is trying to rile up his base by attacking his perceived enemies. Today’s Pocahontas crap just proves it’s not only on Twitter.
I don’t know about Ryan, who is both slimy and stupid, but McConnell, who is slimy but smart, certainly knows the endgame is approaching. Make your most cynical guess about what the Senate Majority Leader (which was once a proud title) will do and you’ll likely be right.

Pravda doesn’t need to be understood for wingnuts to understand O’Keefe’s stupid video. It is a scary name that brings about images of being locked up during cold Russian nights in Siberia for people that ignored the warnings and messages of the state news agency.
What is most bizarre is Trump supporters now think it is okay that our President has connections to an actual ex-KGB intelligence officer who is now the leader of Russia.
In a way they are cool with “idea” of a Pravda…so for O’Keefe to use it, it becomes a strange mixed message.

After reading your post, I couldn’t help but look for info about Henagar. Both of my parents were from Alabama. My mom grew up in Selma, my dad in Brent which is near Tuscaloosa. When I was growing up, we always took a two-week family vacation during the summer to visit our relatives in different parts of the state. I’d never heard of Henager until I read your post. Henagar has a population of less than 2500, is 96.2% white, and has few persons of color to speak of. Poverty is also an issue in Henagar. If I were a betting person, I’d wager that the citizens in Henagar would vote overwhelmingly for Moore so that he could vote for the GOP “tax reform” bill—-a bill that would harm them even more if it passes and Trump signs it into law.

The per capita income for the town was $21,701. About 17.9% of families and 19.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including 32.5% of those under age 18 and 13.6% of those age 65 or over.”

People claimed it was clearly a store-bought pie. I hate when our side is attacked with dishonest assertions; we should be better than that. Of course, she should be able to handle criticism but there was no need to make these assertions about the origin of the pie unless someone had real justification. It’s trivial but trivial attacks can take a toll.

She wasn’t a minor, but she was very young to have somebody who’s that age come on her [WE SEE WHAT YOU ACCIDENTALLY DID THERE, CHRIS CUOMO. - Ed.], let alone if it was an unwanted touching, known as assault.
POLLAK: You know, in 1973, Ringo Starr hit number one on the Billboard Charts with a song “You’re 16, you’re beautiful, and you’re mine.” And it was a remake of an earlier song. He was 30 something at the time singing about a 16-year-old. You want to take away Ringo Starr’s achievement?

…Why is this even a thing? Who cares if she actually made a pie or not? And if she didn’t and claimed she did, oh well, we all know she’s full of shit, move on.
It’s a thing because like Trump, she cannot let being caught in a lie go.
She was outed stealing clip art from an actual bakery and passing the picture off as her pie. It was called out on Twitter. She then made it a thing in a press conference.
Possibly the best thing helping us now from the GOP trying to wreck everything is they can’t even let go of a little thing like this. Sarah Huckabee Sanders would have been better off simply tweeting something like “I made a mistake” and drop it. But she can’t. She’s a conservative. She has to triple down.
Is there an Internet issue right now? I’m having trouble getting things to connect, even after rebooting the cable modem.

she tweeted a photo of the pie and people said mean things and hurt her feelings.
She has feelings?

I think is all rather odd, her making a thing about a pie and blowing it up like the left is going nuts with it.

Nazis described Jews as Untermenschen, or “subhumans,” as a means to prepare the groundwork for genocide.
Martin Strid’s claim that “Muslims are not ‘fully human’” is verbatim the Nazi playbook. This is not “free speech.” It is incitement to terrorism.https://t.co/iV0XaDioMD— Qasim Rashid, Esq. (@MuslimIQ) November 27, 2017
Lawrence O’Donnell just played Peter MacDonald’s remarks from the Navajo Code Talkers’ appearance at the White House today:
“…The 13 of us, we still have one mission — that mission is to build national Navajo Code Talker Museum. We want to preserve this unique World War II history for our children, grandchildren, your children, your grandchildren to go through that museum.
Why? Because what we did truly represents who we are as Americans. America, we know, is composed of diverse community. We have different languages, different skills, different talents, and different religion. But when our way of life is threatened, like the freedom and liberty that we all cherish, we come together as one. And when we come together as one, we are invincible. We cannot be defeated. That’s why we need this national Navajo Code Talker Museum so that our children, the future generation, can go through that museum and learn why America is so strong.”

Hearing this eloquence (the antithesis of Trump’s racist ideas) spoiled by the childish antics of the idiot occupying the White House left me feeling ashamed that the Code Talkers had to be exposed to him.

If the Soviets were smart, they would have used some of the people in the Soviet Republics but unlike the Navajo and Gaelic speakers, the Nazis may have had some of those due to the Soviets mistreating ethnic minorities. Never knew that about the Scots though. That’s way cool. On another note, I can’t help but to think of Ira Hayes. I know Ira was Pima and not a codetalker but his story just breaks my heart.

Then I got a TI 99/4A, rode that for a while, then I moved to the Atari ST series. And as a fun fact: I met our esteemed host an an Atari event held in Southfield MI I think around 1986 while he was doing his CodeHead gig…and if I recall correcly, during one of the demos of his code on the ST, if you clicked on the ‘About…’ tab it would bring up a modal window with his face on it - and the eye would wink at you….Did I miss anything, boss?

Not only that, when April Ryan called her out as the whole thing blew up and Huckabee-Sanders doubled down, Ms. Ryan asked her to show it photographed on a table, being made, being eaten, in the oven, anything. Huckabee-Sanders ignored her and then did the press conference thing.

This a pretty good read/rant:
National Memo: I Hate Sports, But Love Watching Trump Be Enraged By Black Millionaires Who Tell Him Where To Get Off
I do not like sports. There are lots of other things I hate more—cancer, genocide, lite jazz—but ultimately, they’re all separated by a matter of degrees. I don’t care who won last night’s game, who’s in anyone’s brackets or how great the Whatchamacallits are “looking this year.” But while the sporting aspect of sports may strike me as boring, for the past few years, I’ve been pretty taken by the on- and off-field political commentary coming from sports stars using their platforms to call out oppression and social injustice. This refusal to be apolitical is a sign of the times that speaks to both the historic importance of this cultural moment while simultaneously underscoring all the awful reasons why their voices are needed.
You can basically sum up this country’s political spectacle for the last two years as crazy, racist, old man Trump yelling at people of color to get off his lawn, a patch of land known as America. But no group stirs Trump’s—and his followers’—ire quite like rich black folks, whose success they believe is always unearned, more prima facie evidence of a system that now gives black folks a leg up over deserving, hard-working, real—and thus definitionally white—Americans. Rich black folks who dare criticize this country instead of endlessly thanking mythical, benevolent white America for successes their own talents and ambition actually garnered are the particular targets of Trumpian anger and racial resentment. In a recent Politico piece attempting to explain Trump voters’ unwavering support for their president, Michael Kruse concludes, “it’s evidently not what he’s doing so much as it is the people he’s fighting,” a list that includes “NFL players (boy oh boy do they hate kneeling NFL players) whom they see as ungrateful, disrespectful millionaires.”
That’s fitting for a political movement without a single unifying element except its rejection of eight years of leadership by an African American so uppity he thought his rightful place was in the White House. “For Trump,” Ta-Nehisi Coates wrote in a recent Atlantic piece, “it almost seems that the fact of Obama, the fact of a black president, insulted him personally.” Trump and his supporters appear to feel just as insulted by the reality of millionaire black sports stars. It’s true that Trump’s belligerence is boundless, his outsized insecurity fueling his counter-attacks against even the mildest of perceived slights. But Trump goes after powerful black folks with a particular vengeance that is both politically expedient—his base absolutely eats these displays up—and attributable to his own deep-seated racism.
There honestly isn’t a single thing Trump has done to impress me both as President or as a father or a husband or anything. He really is everything I dislike about a person- shallow, ignorant, full of himself, etc.

CNN panel derails after Rick Wilson calls Sarah Sanders ‘a congenital liar’ with a ‘shriveled husk left in her soul’ https://t.co/Fy6AubQlTB
— (((Anna))) (@TallyAnnaE) November 28, 2017
“How can Sarah Sanders stand there at the podium and say, ‘Oh it’s not a slur, the president doesn’t mean it as a slur,’” host Don Lemon asked, referring to Trump’s comments at a Native American World War II veteran tribute in the Oval Office on Monday, and Sanders’ subsequent claim it was not a racial attack on Warren.
“Don, the reason she does that is because her job is contingent on her being a serial, congenital liar in defense of Donald Trump’s latest outrages,” Wilson opined. “She probably has some tiny, shriveled husk left in her soul where she realizes this is the wrong thing to do, but she does it anyway because otherwise they’ll replace her.”

I disagree with him that she knows it’s the wrong thing ot do though. She never would have associated herself with Trump and continued to do so. It’s not like as a daughter of a former governor, she’d be lacking for employment opps if she were to leave Trump.
re: #292 HappyWarrior
My personal belief is that she knows when she’s lying and she enjoys the deception for the feeling of power it gives her.
re: #218 Hecuba’s daughter
My first computer was the original Macintosh and I forked out $2,600 for what I thought was a wonderbox with a big 128K storage…

Absolutely. She’s gotten far doing this. She’s one of the few women in Trump’s inner circle that he probably doesn’t lust after.

Like father like daughter ?
(self-imposed SMACK….)
re: #289 jaunte
I will probably hate every conservative position he stands for, but I’ll buy the man a drink if we’re ever in contact (I doubt I’ll ever have to make due on this, but still).

Honestly it amazes me that she’s gotten this far. I don’t ever remember her playing a big role in her Dad’s presidential campaigns.

I will say this about Wilson. He’s one of the few conservatives that can actually get a laugh out of me. Most others flat out suck at humor. And Rick isn’t even a conservative “humorist.” I wouldn’t mind buying him a drink or Ana Navarro for that matter either. I respect them for their consistent anti-Trump stances. Ana double since she actually voted for HRC. The fake “Never Trumpers” though can go fuck em selves.
The thing I do want anti-Trump conservatives to honestly realize is that Trump isn’t an abomination of their ideology, he’s the logical conclusion of the worst of Reaganism and Nixonism.
I mean I know it’s hard for conservatives to come to terms that Reagan wasn’t the Saint they’ve tried to paint him as but Reagan race baited too. Nixon definitely did.
re: #290 GlutenFreeJesus
I took a look at both pics. Even went to the Whaley website so I could see a full image of their pie. The photos are not the same.
Personally I don’t care if she baked or bought a pie, or had no pie at all.
As noted in the CNN tweet above, she was called out as a congenital liar. I suppose that would include pies.
Back from the water tower. I’m guessing the wind is the problem tonight, the water was fine.

And Goldwater, and the National Review, and the John Birch Society. This has been going on all my life (and probably before).

I think a lot of it goes back to McCarthyism AM. WFB got his start defending McCarthy. Goldwater is someone who is more complex than meets the eye but he definitely deserves his criticism. And the JBS without question. I contend that the only reason why WFB denounced them is because they made the conservative movement look the loons they really are and WFB who was obsessed with the idea of the “noble conservative movement” didnt’ want that. He certainly did not object to the Birchers racism or seeing communism behind civil rights.

“There are always going to be people who dislike “others” and are willing to use them as scapegoats, even to the point of massacring them. It’s sad, and all we can do is stay ahead of them, which we fail to do because we get complacent.”
I’m over 60, and I’ve never had the luxury of becoming complacent where race and a whole lot of other things are concerned. Being born black in America is a hell of a way to live because you’re constantly confronted with someone who has preconceived opinions about you no matter how much you’ve accomplished in your life. Some Americans cannot move beyond others’ skin colors. Why? I have no idea, but I’ve long thought that it has everything to do with ensuring that those they’ve labeled “other” never rise above a certain level in this country. For some of us, the American Dream is not for us. The irony and hypocrisy in these types of persons’ attitude toward their fellow human beings here in America shows itself when they wrap themselves in the flag and use the teachings of Jesus to abuse others by taking healthcare from our citizens and snatching food from the mouths of babes along with all of the other anti-Jesus BS they embrace. I’m a Christian, but I don’t recognize the brand of Christianity they practice therefore, I have gotten as far away from them as I can. I’ve also put them on notice on Facebook that I’m not going to cede my Christian beliefs to a political party or politicians, and if they don’t like, they’re free to unfriend me.

That is one reason I like this blog. We can interact without knowing any of the superficial things about each other. We meet on a deeper level.
re: #305 HappyWarrior
Actually, later on in his life, Goldwater became human -fancy that. He regularly appeared on the Dean Martin Comedy Roasts during the 1970s (And THAT was some great stuff - go check ‘em out on Youtube) and was pretty pithy. He even , IIRC, acknowledged gays and basically said: leave ‘em be.

Need the +10 upding button
The thing distressing me though ain’t the GOP establishment or really truly Trump in himself though he of course does deserve blame is this rise of sympathy and even support for the Nazis. I mean the CSA crap? Bad enough says this second great grandson of an Army of the Potomac vet but actual Nazi fanboys and girls? I don’t remember my great uncle who was a WWII vet well but i definitely always looked up to the fact that he was a WWII vet. I still remember when I had clue what D-Day even really was being in awe of a classmate’s grandfather who spoke to us about D-Day one year or the opening scene of Saving Private Ryan. I played WWII video games. I read Stephen Ambrose. I admired Easy Company and I asked myself if I would have the courage of a Richard Winters or Wild Bill Guarnere. I’m German-American. In fact, my dad’s grandfather was born in Germany and my last name is German. But never ever have I seen myself wondering if the Nazis were the good guys. WWI is a bit more complex in some ways but the Nazis? Nope.
I can’t help but to wonder if the passing of the WWII generation is inspiring this. Fewer people with actual memories of the Nazis. I’m a rare non-Jewish American in that I can point to relatives who experienced both elements of the Second World War. My close relatives were of course here in the U.S. and served the U.S. Many of them were either sons and grandsons of immigrants. And my distant cousin and Iwo Jima hero, Mike Strank was an immigrant himself. But I had others in Slovakia and Slovenia who experienced the Nazi war machine. I have no idea if it’s true but my grandpa always told me that he had a cousin killed by the Nazis after the invasion and that the surviving siblings joined the Partisans, the latter has since been verified to me by a cousin still living in Slovenia who knew our older generation that resided there. He and I, different because of our nationality but coming from the same family both expressed pride that our relatives fought for their country in their time of need.
