They’re doing a damn good job of it as it is. They hold all the fucking cards and power and seem completely dead set on making it impossible to exist as a non-white person in America without literally becoming a second-class citizen, complete with the loss of vote, just, you know, without actually ‘losing’ the vote in the technical sense. Not until they own enough fucking states to crack open the constitution like they’ve wanted to forever.
EDIT: The problem is that, with the way Trump has been allowed to stack the judiciary, combined with the way the GOP has prevented Dems from filling vacancies themselves, we’re going to be living with the consequences of Trump legally for a generation, if not two. That means a lot of laws ensuring their vaunted white supremacy remains, and meaning we may not even get the elections we deserve because hey, fuck them, they’re not white, they’re literally lesser people by law according to the courts!!
The Law and Order party and their “Blue Lives Matter” supporters are currently talking about purging the FBI and DOJ for investigating a hostile foreign government’s tampering with our elections, and then claiming that they’re “patriots” for doing it.

They won an important battle, for sure (and they won it because we - royal we - thought we’d won) but the war’s not over. And if we don’t stop them, it won’t be just non-whites. There are plenty of non-male or non-Christian or non-cheating-on-your-wife types in this country.

It’s a irresponsible and stupid article. Calling someone a motherfucker doesn’t make him go and have carnal relations with his mother. As so many other writers do, the author claims that if liberals were only more selective with the label of bigot, conservatives would somehow feel less attacked.
This is utter bullshit.
The article does not entertain the possibility that conservative cultists feel more outraged and bigoted because the safe media environs they seek out tell them to be so. It fails to realise that giving bigots safe spaces where their beliefs won’t be attacked is exactly what perpetuates bigotry in the first place - failing to challenge long-held beliefs. Conservative cultists are told constantly that their prejudices are normal and to be angry at liberals for attacking them, whether those attacks are real or imagined. Just like Nazis, they will be angry and hateful whether you punch them or simply protest quietly.
It is in the nature of an arsehole to double down on being so when that belief is challenged or shamed. I submit that it is a phenomenon unique to those in privileged positions, whether that be by virtue of wealth or skin colour. If you have been treated with undeserved privilege your entire life, your natural response to being challenged is going to be to snap back, rather than self-reflection. That’s too bad, but it doesn’t mean that we should continue to coddle the tender fee-fees of bigots and other scum.

Put more simply, there’s a reason they fear being called a bigot: the positions they’ve adopted/adapted as their own, are bigoted.
Their stance on bathroom usage? It’s government so small it fits in the bathroom stall (the very opposite of small government and limited government).
Abortion rights? The same - and it deprives women of their rights all to force women to give birth at same time GOP are depriving millions of access to health coverage.
Racial discrimination? GOP treats it as though it doesn’t even exist, especially police engaging in discriminatory acts.
Title IX in colleges? DeVos is trying to eliminate reporting requirements so abuse and harassment can continue.
Pointing out that Trump is affirmatively quoting white supremacists, KKK, Nazis? Yeah, that makes you the bigot, not Trump. Trump’s the one who thinks the Nazis and the persons protesting them are equal.
Trump’s the one who is recycling Nazis talking points - the America First slogan is straight out of the anti Semitic playbook.
America First is a xenophobic and nativist position that white supremacists and KKKers are espousing along with the Nazis.
Essentially throttling legal immigration while moving to deport millions who have overstayed visas? Yeah, that too is xenophobic and nativist.
Build a wall? The same.
Everywhere you look, this administration is pursuing a hateful agenda.

Additionally, McDaniel had this to say regarding Harvey Weinstein’s donations to the DNC back when he was embroiled in a sexual misconduct controversy:
“Weinstein lined Democrat pockets with millions of dollars,” she wrote in October. “If the DNC truly stands up for women like they say they do, then returning Weinstein’s dirty money should be a no-brainer.”

Pat Buchanan has been there for years, so probably not.
I happen to be reading Jo Nesbo’s “Nemesis” and the topic of narcissim just came up:
‘Freud introduced the concept of a narcissist to psychology, a person with an exaggerated sense of uniqueness, obsessed by the dream of boundless success. For the narcissist the need for revenge against those who have affronted him or her is often greater than all other needs. It is called the”narcissist’s rage”. The American psychoanalyst Heinz Kohut has described how such a person would seek to avenge the affront-which may seem a mere bagatelle to us-with whatever means they have at their disposal. For instance, what would seem on the surface to be a standard rejection might result in the narcissist working tirelessly, with a compulsive determination, to redress the balance, causing death if necessary.’
‘Death to whom?’ Harry asked.
‘To all.’
‘That’s insane,’ Beate burst out.
‘In fact, that’s what I’m saying,’ Aune said drily.

The reality for this nation is that the GOP care about only one thing: power. Specifically the accumulation and retention of power. Trump is giving them a taste of power that they have fantasized about for decades, of a party that can weather a major political scandal due to public indifference and political malaise combining to drive down voter participation. Even those who aren’t openly supporting him are prepared to go to bat for him for fear that they will anger the base. For all the talk during the previous 8 years about how Dems viewed Obama as a “messiah,” Reps are prepared to elevate Trump to God-Emperor if it means unrestricted power.

I totally expect that strike to happen before November, because the GOP feels that the “rally ‘round the flag” effect is their best way to rapidly build public support.

What’s really going to hurt the GOP is not the constant warfare, but the subsequent leveling of Seoul as well as the potential for a shooting war with China. This isn’t some hypothetical strike on Iran where the worst we have to worry about is pissing off the locals. We’re talking the potential for plunging the entire region into a state of open warfare when we are in no real position to prosecute such a war.

Oh dear! There is really only one solution in the current political climate: Kim and his South Korean rivals need to set aside their many disputes, recognize their common interest in staying alive, and pool their resources to buy their own Republican shills and agents of influence. Congressmen or a national network like Fox might be prohibitively expensive, but any number of bloggers, conspira-liars and Texas school boards could be bought in car-load lots, achieving saturation by weight of numbers.

Something something land war in Asia something something
On a more serious note, yeah, you’re right. My sense is that nobody (except possibly Trump) wants a war in Asia, including North Korea. The Kim regime has always been about self-preservation, and there’s a legitimate argument to be made that pursuit of nuclear weapons is an action for self-preservation. Nations with nuclear weapons don’t get invaded, instead they seem to get a seat at the table (at least regionally). North Korea also has to know if it launches a war, China is more likely to cut them loose than to support them. But on the flip side, we should know that if we start a fight, China is likely to support North Korea - and it would devastate our relationships with just about everyone in the region, in particular South Korea and Japan, two of our better trade partners.

Thanks Belofon, I had a feeling it was that simple. Keep in mind you’re dealing with someone who knows Word inside and out but still prefers to use WordPerfect. ;-)
re: #250 PhillyPretzel
Hmm. Star Wars 2 or a Victoria episode or Sense and Sensibility? So many choices.
You could watch Nonsense and Senility with the rest of us.
re: #253 Decatur Deb

I’m watching Idiocracy. Oh wait….
re: #245 Joe Bacon 🌹
I’m watching Pink Flamingos because I’d rather laugh at a singing asshole than cry from watching a talking one.
I’m watching Van Helsing. It sucks, but not as bad as watching Anus-face McWeirdGestures.
re: #253 Decatur Deb
I am afraid watching it would destroy my grey matter. I do not want to lose that.
Instead of watching the SoTU I’m taking my Dad out to a screening of Dunkirk at the fancy drinky theater. Gonna order a bloody mary then watch people endure and survive a Nazi assault.
So, basically the same thing.— Photon Herder (@goddamnedfrank) January 31, 2018
I guarantee you Trump will go off script tonight.
re: #250 PhillyPretzel

I’m thinking of rewatching either “Girls Und Panzer Der Movie” or “Cowboy Bebop: Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door”
re: #259 Eclectic Cyborg
That is why I will be watching something else.
re: #259 Eclectic Cyborg
I guarantee you Trump will go off script tonight.
If not, he’ll shit onto Twitter first thing in the morning.
A little humor before the shit show about to come
“Nothing to see here, folks, move along…” — Paul Ryan, Mike Pence, et alia
BREAKING: Russian News Outlet TASS reports that the Russian Spy Chief, Sergey Naryshkin, who is under US sanctions, entered the US w/ Trump’s approval.no US officials have mentioned this visit & it appears that TASS released this info to retaliate against Trump’s sanctions list

re: #247 The Vicious Babushka
I’m going to watch The Crown on Netflix.
I’m going to catch up on episodes of The Good Place
re: #263 Woods Witch
A little humor before the shit show about to come
The Little Singers of the Cross of Wood could be considered my “first” concert (1956).
re: #260 William Lewis
I’m thinking of rewatching either “Girls Und Panzer Der Movie” or “Cowboy Bebop: Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door”
“Ilsa, She-Wolf of the SS?”
I’m going to watch more “One Day at a Time” and maybe a bit of the Avalanche game. I cannot listen to the orange bag o’shit. What’s left of my mental health needs to be preserved.

We’ll be eating dinner shortly. My wife bought a pork roast at the butcher shop yesterday, and it’s been all day roasting with a recipe that is so secret she cannot remember what she did.

damn, sounds great.
I’m gonna post the live video. You don’t have to watch but I will because I’m hoping to get a screenshot of the Rage Furby sitting in the gallery, so I can embarrass the fuck out of whoever invited him.
So Melania went in a separate car to the SOTU…the plot thickens…
UPDATE on yesterday’s story about the Toronto cops who ate marijuana edibles on duty, then freaked out so much they called the cops on themselves.

re: #277 Joe Bacon 🌹
In a break with tradition.
Yeah, that’s totally surprising.
No, who am I kidding. That’s entirely predictable.
What I’d like to see tonight: Some measure of resistance from Congressional Dems, such as getting up to leave during the speech, standing up and turning their backs, or even shouting “You lie!”
What I expect: A whole bunch of stone-faced old folks sitting in their seats, continuing to act under the delusion that if they refuse to clap or show any support for the man at the podium, they’ll look like the “adults” in the room. When the reality is that most people won’t be watching the speech, but will instead see the highlight reel tomorrow morning on their way out the door to work, catching snippets of the speech that media will hail as “presidential” while the most coverage given to Dems will be snide remarks or “analysis” about how they need to “meet Trump halfway” on his empty promises if they want to win reelection.
re: #279 Scottish Dragon
I am watching Phantom Menace currently.
Judging from the excerpts I’ve seen it’s going to be empty platitudes all the way. Trump’s shooting for that “tonight he truly became president” take from the cable news talking heads.

Thanks for the retweet, or paraphrase, or whatever the kids are calling it these days, of the Peter Lorre comment, Charles. I just might be famous yet!

Cowboy BeBop is hard to beat.

You are our brave leader. Bless you. I’m so sorry you have to watch that shit.

She doesn’t even have the same bedroom as Trump. That is a first in my lifetime that the first couple didn’t share a bedroom.

I’m going with Grace and Frankie, ‘cause I want to see some 70-somethings who make sense.

One reason I enjoy LGF….the obscure, nerdy references
re: #289 Targetpractice
No. I was watching it on the way home from work so I will finish watching it at home. Then something else during the SOTU.
re: #260 William Lewis

I’d probably watch GUP, mostly because after the last few days, I’d need something lighthearted.

Jar Jar Binks or Donald J. Trump…hmm…
Nah, I’ll just shoot myself in the head.

yeah, true that. Plus it’s funny watchin a Pershing, a PzIVF2 & a Tiger repeatedly violate the laws of physics :D
But I’ll probably go for Cowboy BeBop for the fact that it’s a pure good guy win in the end.

UpChuck is in D.C. for the big speech?!? Oh brother.
He’ll be easy to spot, he brought his own torch.
Now I wish I hadn’t taken the time yesterday to catch up on ST: Discovery. Some bad Star Trek writing would be preferable tonight.
Trump may actually be late for the SOTU. Because that’s how incompetent he is.

They gotta draw people back now that Rick & Morty is gone for another long hiatus.
If the owner of the National Inquirer wasn’t a fellow bacchanalian of Trump’s, visits to the Rite Aid cash register would be a lot more fun, and a lot more truthful.

Sorry Bill, no matter how many 4 Non Blondes cd’s you have, they’re still not calling you.
Poland and Israel are in a spat over Poland’s 2018 amendment to its Holocaust law.
The amendment passed the Sejm a couple days ago and has moved on to the Polish Senate.
The amendment would criminalise (except for artistic, historic, or scientific work) using terms similar to “Polish death camps” to refer to the German Nazi regime’s death camps built in Poland or other Nazi crimes committed on Polish soil while Poland was under occupation.
Israel and (some) American Jewish groups are condemning the bill, claiming that many Polish people were complicit in Nazi Germany’s crimes. Yad Vashem also condemns the amendment.
Poland for many years has argued that Nazi Germany was the real actor and pushes back any time it sees “Polish Death Camp” in a news outlet or government document.
Poland notes that while the phrase is geographically correct (they were situated in Poland), the phrase is a slander on Poland and gives Holocaust deniers ammunition (see Germany didn’t do it, Poland did).
As part of a strategy of education, Radio Poland has set up an information Website on German death camps. They have an article about it:
thenews.pl (in English)
Complicating matters, amongst the Righteous Amongst the Nations listed at Yad Vashem, Poles outnumber people from any other country.
re: #15 A Mom Anon
I’m waiting on their new Nazi Bible to be published where Jesus sports a swastika tattoo and and wears khakis and a white polo shirt.
There was a movement in Germany, mostly in the Lutheran Church, to promote a new, Arayanized version of Christianity more in keeping with Nazi ideology.
Many of those motherfuckers remained in the church and one was even appointed pastor to a local village and served well into the 1970’s.

I ask that all South Carolinians show the world our state’s resolute commitment to supporting our troops by standing for the national anthem wherever you watch the Super Bowl with your loved ones this Sunday.
The Super Bowl is a private event put on by a private corporation. But the SC governor has conflated it with a public ceremony with religious overtones.
