I know it’s an extreme analogy because I’m talking about a Nazi war criminal but one of the guys who arrested Herman Goering remembered how Goering’s body language transformed drastically after he realized the serious of the charges against him and that he wasn’t going to be treated as an equal by the Allies. That’s Kavanaugh now. He’s had a free ride his entire life. Despite what the Judge said about it at the time, I still believe part of that sentence was a “fuck you” for what happened in ‘95.
It wasn’t just the sentence — the whole trial was a FU for what happened in 1995. To at least get him some prison time for murdering two people

Then shockingly he didn’t read the job description of Supreme Court justice either. God and until now I thought the most whiny shit I saw out of a federal judge was Roberts pity song for the South on the VRA or Alito not liking what Obama said during SOTU.
The only way he could have played this and gotten himself and the Republican Old White Man brigade out of it would have been to very calmly say, “I believe Dr. Ford. She was assaulted and it is heartbreaking. I do not doubt her. But it wasn’t me.”
Then establish all of the reasons it could not have been him. Show calm credibility. Give people something to point to and say, “He’s a good man. He’s being respectful of her. There is simply no way a man like that did this.”

re: #379 Hecuba’s daughter
The non-voters are not watching. So no, it won’t affect them.
They’re not watching now, but they’ll see the news tonight, they’ll see the video clips online… and most will have Dr Ford composed and Judge Kavanaugh ranting like a mad man.
Why don’t one of these DEM Senators just start their questioning by turning to Lindsay and say “Merrick Garland”. Geez!
Brett Kavanaugh. Functional when drunk.
And damn is he smarmy.
Objection, Your Honour! The witness is badgering the questioner!
re: #369 Hecuba’s daughter
Kavanaugh is pioneering the GOP approach to responding to Dems. If they question you, just stonewall it and you will not suffer any consequences as long as the GOP remains in power — and thanks to gerrymandering and voter suppression abetted by SC decisions, that will be the foreseeable future unless we have a true blue wave that sweeps the GOP out in 2018.
Wonder how all of this is going over with Flake, Collins, Murkowski.
At a minimum I can’t imagine any red state Dems voting for this guy.
Dems give up too easily. People already thinking its in the bag. Take action and call your Senators and the White House, no matter which side of the aisle.

the hell is up with asking a senator what he likes to drink?
Asked by Whitehouse if “Ralph Club” was a reference to vomiting from alcohol, Kavanaugh doesn’t answer directly but says he’s known for his weak stomach with both alcohol and food. He adds: “I like beer…what do you like to drink? Senator, what do you like to drink?”

I need to go home now, but I’ll leave you all with this thought:
~62 million Americans will totally approve of this because it’s exactly how they’d behave (or would like to - hence their voting for Cheeto Benito’s angry, whiny self-pitying narcissism and trollery).
All you need to ask yourselves is if what we’ve seen today is enough to rouse enough non-voters out of their apathy.
while you are generally right in this case - and mostly wrt to men
remember a lot of those 62M are women

I wonder which “McCarthy hearings” Sen. Cornyn is referring to? The ones where Tailgunner Joe browbeat and red-baited witnesses? Or the ones where McCarthy got exposed on TV for the dishonest sleaze he was…?
I think Cornyn is trying to invoke the former image: but I think the latter is more likely to be the takeaway for a lot of folks.

It’s all about context. If you’ve reached the level where you’re going before the US Senate for a confirmation hearing, then you should be fine with the FBI conducting an investigation into allegations against you (assuming they are not true). Not knowing Kavanaugh, I have no idea whether he’s an alcoholic. And I am not going to engage in speculation as to whether he still drinks or not, or even how much of his attitude is tied to his drinking. From everything I’ve seen, he comes off as an asshole who should not be a member of the Supreme Court. He also probably needs some counseling, based on the public statements he’s made today. That’s something he needs to come to grips with in his own life. Ultimately, this isn’t about him, it’s about the Court, and he’s shown himself to not be worthy of the Court.

Not sure what you mean (I’m not watching, just following here and via twitter/texts). But generally reasonable doubt is the standard of proof for the prosecution in criminal trials. The defense usually doesn’t need to reach that standard, they typically just have to poke holes in the prosecution’s case - it may apply, in certain circumstances when dealing with affirmative defenses, but I don’t do criminal law so I’m not sure.
