Right Wing Operatives Trying to Bribe Women to Make False Allegations of Sexual Assault Against Robert Mueller

Politics • Views: 36,338

A spokesman for the Special Counsel’s office has announced that they’ve alerted the FBI about a scheme to pay women to make false allegations of sexual assault against Robert Mueller, which probably isn’t surprising in the Trump era.

An alleged scheme to pay off women to fabricate sexual assault allegations against Special Counsel Robert Mueller has been referred to the FBI for further investigation, a spokesman for the special counsel’s office told The Atlantic. “When we learned last week of allegations that women were offered money to make false claims about the Special Counsel, we immediately referred the matter to the FBI for investigation,” the spokesman, Peter Carr, told me in an email on Tuesday.

[…]

The special counsel’s office confirmed that the scheme was brought to its attention by several journalists who were told about it by a woman alleging that she herself had been offered roughly $20,000 by a man claiming to work for a GOP activist named Jack Burkman “to make accusations of sexual misconduct and workplace harassment against Robert Mueller.” The woman told journalists in an email, a copy of which I obtained, that she had worked for Mueller as a paralegal at the Pillsbury, Madison, and Sutro law firm in 1974, but that she “didn’t see” him much. “When I did see him, he was always very polite to me, and was never inappropriate,” the woman wrote. The firm has not returned a request for comment about whether the woman actually worked there.

Jack Burkman is denying this report, of course. But note that this is the right wing radio host who pushed ugly conspiracy theories about the Seth Rich murder, and last year called a press conference to announce “evidence” of sexual harassment by a sitting member of Congress, only to cancel it at the last minute.

The Stupidest Man on the Internet, Jim Hoft, jumped right on this story to spread it as widely as possible before it collapses: BREAKING REPORT — **EXCLUSIVE DOCUMENTS** : Special Counsel and Former FBI Director Robert Mueller Accused of Rape By ‘Very Credible Witness ‘.

Charles Kushner, 2004:

Major Donor Admits Hiring Prostitute to Smear Witness
The biggest political donor in New Jersey pleaded guilty on Wednesday to trying to compromise a witness in a campaign finance investigation by setting him up with a prostitute and secretly videotaping the sexual encounter. The plea came in a case that the federal prosecutor called a clear example of corruption in the state’s political culture.

It’s hilarious that news of the FBI investigation broke literally minutes ahead of Burkman’s lies and Hoft’s story. Burkman seems to have a history of this. He managed to call off a press conference for an already discredited claim at the last minute a couple of years ago. He was just a little late on this one.

Yes, but this would have to be a constitutional amendment, and the bar for that is VERY high - two thirds of both houses of Congress AND ratification by three fourths of the states. Not even the Trump gang has the political clout to make this happen.

We’re still left with the question that birthright citizenship has never been adjudicated by the Supreme Court, and the Wong case can be overturned by another court or legislation.

I am not hopeful with the current makeup of the court.

As much as I support and sympathize with Williams and other artists that don’t want Trump and other Republicans to use their music, there may not be much they can legally do to stop them if the proper public performance licenses are paid to ASCAP, BMI, and/or SESAC, other than getting their opposition in the public eye; that’s just the nature of the modern music business, good, bad, or indifferent.

If the performance licenses haven’t been paid for, that’s a different situation altogether.

51
ObserverArt  Oct 30, 2018 • 12:34:46pm

So, do I have this right?

Hoft and others are putting out stories about Robert Mueller floated by a Jack Burkman but Mueller already heard about it as did other reporters and now the FBI is investigating it already and started before the wingnuts could float it?

Brilliant!

What a bunch of clowns. I’d say they should be embarrassed but we already know that is not possible.

Yes, but as others here mention, their hope is that a radical SCOTUS interpretation of the 14th amendment (on national security grounds) will enable what amounts to a dictatorship.

I really don’t think it will work, but I also think Trump is really serious about this. Racial hatred and profit are the only two things he really believes in.

The SCOTUS can do whatever it likes, but I have a hard time imagining the current court deciding that they ought to make what is likely to be a very, very unpopular ruling that logically speaking can’t be considered to be what the authors of the Constitution had in mind. In those days, with a large, lightly populated country in desperate need of labor, luring people in and getting them to stay was the goal. Hence the idea that 2 years of residence and “good moral character” was enough to become a citizen. A century later we were still luring people (the “right” people, of course) with books telling the folks back in their country in northern Europe about how great some area is to emigrate to, with little bios of the upstanding citizens of their ethnic origin in the region.

You have it backwards, nowadays Republican politicians always pay for the licenses, to avoid Charlie Crist’s horrible fate.

Charlie Crist Official Apology to David Byrne for Copyright Infringement

Byrne never licensed his music to a service, so he was able to make a public embarrassing example out of Crist. Most other musicians don’t have a leg to stand on because they effectively waived their rights in exchange for a steady income stream. They like sending cease and desist letter while making a public stink about a particular usage, but they want it both ways, to get the money up front and then pretend like they weren’t asked permission. When in fact they gave up the right to demand permission when they tried to broadly monetize their content.

I guess that was about Michael Sam the first gay football player drafted by the then St. Louis Rams back in 2014.

The catch…Burkman’s own brother Jim is a gay doctor. Stein talked about how embarrassed his brother was about the stupid legislation Burkman was trying to get passed.

Here is a report from NFL.

NFL - Michael Sam blasts lobbyist who wants to ban gay NFL players

im gonna just say this, though it’s probably been said by smarter people already

ive watched the polls and many of the individual races
blue wave
blue tsunami
but here’s the path the r’s could keep it all
whatever

there’s been a lot of movement from safe to likely,
from likely to leans,
from leans to toss up

while a leans r is still an r, there is a …trend.
on election day, or soon after, things will settle and eventually we’ll know
(because voter supression doesnt show up in polls)

so many races are razor thin right now - governors, senators, house, and state level too

the story right now is that so many once solid r’s are today unpredictably razor thin

re: #107 makeitstop

Jennifer Taub is a law professor. She’s never even met Mueller.

I’m having a hard time processing the depth of the stupidity at work here.

I’m starting to see the outlines, and it’s really stupid:

The Wohls concoct a plan to discredit the media, not Mueller. “Lorraine” is made up, as is her story - note that “she” emailed journalists but was unwilling to speak by phone. “She” tells a very damning tale about being offered money to accuse Mueller of sexual harassment, but says “she” was contacted by phone, then continued the conversation by Signal - so there’s no evidence it took place. “Lorraine” shopped this around to multiple outlets, none of whom bit.

Meanwhile, an email is sent to Taub, carefully constructed so as NOT TO be offering money for lies..

So, I think the plan was for some media outlet to run with the original story, maybe use Taub as corroborative detail, then have it come out that there IS NO Lorraine, and make the media look stupid for running with the story. Yesterday’s hint from Wohl may have been meant to get some media outlet thinking they had to run the Lorraine story quick, before the ‘scandal’ broke.

But their targets didn’t do what they expected. Nobody ran with the story, and when they started looking up who ‘Surefire Investigations’ was, they ran into Wohl’s Mom’s voicemail.

Oops.

This whataboutism doesn’t stop with equating protests with violence. It also relies on outright lying.

This needs to stop, and those who keep practicing bothsidesism need to be shamed. At this point, pretending that both sides are equally to blame, or attributing political violence to spreading hatred without identifying who’s responsible for that spread, is a form of deep cowardice.

The fact is that one side of the political spectrum is peddling hatred, while the other isn’t. And refusing to point that out for fear of sounding partisan is, in effect, lending aid and comfort to the people poisoning our politics.

If I say so myself as one of LGF’s Steelers fan. If you have to have a team, I think they’re a good one. I always felt a special connection to the Rooney family since my father’s mother’s family are Irish-Americans from Pittsburgh as well and I found out that my father’s maternal uncle definitely knew Art Rooney, Sr and his brother who like my grand uncle was a priest. Yeah I do think the times impact this as well but Dim Jim, Wacky Wohl, and the gang are fools compared to the guys that used to do this trash for Nixon.

Remember though, they got caught with the door to the parking garage taped open. A security guard doing his rounds noticed the tape because it was wrapped around the edge of the door. He removed the tape and went on his way, but later came back and saw the tape was again in place keeping the door open. He then called the cops to report a burglary and the rest is history.

Ari Melber just made a good point to keep in mind.

Trump and Republicans are out in strong key red states and districts trying to hold on very established Republican areas.

In other words they are hoping to keep what Trump and they had won in the past. They are playing defense.

The Democrats are on offense going after Trump and Republican areas.

He also said Trump’s own campaign has just bought a slew of last minute ads for these same areas and they don’t even mention anything about Trump…they are generic traditional Republican scare ads about the economy, law and order and the like.

I guess some of the Republicans in these toughly fought areas do not want Trump too close to them.

Chris Geidner sums up this entire chain of events nicely, and wraps the criminal charges against the Wohl clan very nicely; Wohl was engaging in a criminal enterprise to obstruct justice and interfere with ongoing investigations by making false claims.

18 USC 372. Conspiracy to impede an officer (Mueller is an officer engaging in an ongoing investigation into Trump. Pushing the nonsensical claims against Mueller in hopes that Mueller is forced to retire from the investigation is a de facto interference in the role. Wohl and his daddy’s fingerprints are all over this kerfuffle, from the surefire whois on down.

Oh, and Geidner points out that hours later, SMOTI finally pulls down his idiotic claims against Mueller, and also now insists that he’s looking into Wohl.

I’m betting that the SMOTI angle will be that Wohl is really a leftie who was trying to attack the right wing (a potted plant).

I have long believed that El Paso, home of Beto, should be cut off of Texas and attached to New Mexico. You can see by the map that it would make more sense, geographically. And NM’s biggest city would be three times bigger than Albuquerque. Beto is part of the deal. Texas can have Hobbs and Artesia and Steve Pearce. We’ll throw in Gary Johnson.

We’re dealing with one of the best politicians in the country running against quite possibly the worst and the worst will probably win.

while it may end up that way, two things happened

- its very close. cruz thinks it shouldnt be and he’s terrified
- beto has introduced himself well

Cruz is right, it shouldn’t be close, but not for the reason Cruz thinks.

Oh yes, Pierce and Johnson can definitely get traded to Texas. NM would be happy to have Beto.

I’m not posting anymore stuff from Rawstory. I turned off the adblocker at their request and got pounded so many ads my browser crashed. Bye, Felicia!

I stopped reading them years ago because they were infested with 9/11 truthers. Only time in my life I’ve been accused of being a government plant/stooge.

Crooks and Liars was just as bad.

My local Congresscritter has been running ads where he insists he “stood up to the insurance companies,” which means he ignored their warnings against fucking with the market to “own the libs.” And that he “voted to protect those with preexisting conditions,” which means he voted for some bullshit GOP bill that was never going to pass but included that language just so he could say this shit at election time.

Yup. I meet hubby at C&L. I left shortly thereafter…they just went off the rails. He’s blocked from there for injecting reality into their bullshit. They’re like RedState that way.

I was briefly banned at C&L after battling “principled liburls” because the site went anti-Obama when he beat Hillary.

There was a rabid and loud minority of so-called libruls that turned anti-Obama and anti-Democrat because Hillary lost. I use to enjoy Lynn Samuels on Sirius and she sounded no different than a tea party mook after Hillary lost.

Texas voting machines are fatally flawed; the Texas elections will be invalid. This is a disgrace. Any Democrat who loses should demand a total revote using legitimate equipment.

re: #320 MsJ

and the Congresswoman is STILL lying about it in her ads that I see on the idiot box multiple times a day. To top it all off, she’s gotten some rural nurse to come on state that her vote on pre-existing conditions actually strengthens pre-existing conditions because it releases the insurance companies from having to cover them….

it’s bleeping insane…. her opponent Sinema points to the Congressional record and points out the language of the law in the vote and McSally is busy trying to tell everyone, it doesn’t mean what you think it means….

in short, fuck Martha McSally, she can enjoy her pension pulling cholla from her ass…..
