GUESS WHO????

GOP candidate lies about Mexicans selling ‘tens of thousands’ of US kids into sex slavery

rawstory.com

This week, Madison Cawthorn, a Republican U.S. House candidate for North Carolina who recently spoke at the Republican National Convention, published a video to his supporters falsely claiming that Mexican cartels on the southern national border are kidnapping tens of thousands of U.S. kids and then selling them on “the sex slave market.”

The fact-checkers at The Asheville Citizen-Times called his claim a “discredited” and “debunked” one “promoted by the extremist conspiracy theory movement” known as QAnon. QAnon believers think that a Democrat-run “deep state” is trying to stop Republican President Donald Trump from exposing an international child sex trafficking ring.

In the past, Cawthorn has lied about being accepted into the U.S. Naval Academy before a car crash left him in a wheelchair—the academy actually rejected him before his accident. He also deleted an Instagram post referring to Adolph Hitler as “the führer” (“leader” in German) and calling his visit to Hitler’s Eagle’s Nest home in the Alps, a “bucket list” destination.

I have no expectation of hanging it upside down. Joe Biden will win. That is not a prediction, it is simply what must happen. We don’t really have a choice.

I redid that dark factor test except this time I took the full test and the reaction test. I got the same score - 1.64 vs 1.63. Seems consistent. I’m apparently a bit greedy and morally disengaged.

look, nancy, i think you’re great, but we don’t need you to put out a sternly worded letter of concern. if you ever had the remotest thought that you have the power as a congress to compel people to show up before you, then you need to start subpoenaing people. if they don’t show up, you need to have the sergeant at arms and his deputies haul these people from wherever they are before you. I’m assuming the sergeant at arms has nationwide authority to make arrests.

Made a batch of broccoli slaw and now there’s a skillet of shaved beef, sweet onion and garlic simmering in some low sodium Dale’s. The beef will eventually be topped with smoked provolone and served on onion rolls.

I hate how the R’s fetishize the American flag. If I see an event with way too many flags I know that it is a right wing group. Of course, you also see the Gadson flags, Trump flags.
John James, senate candidate in Michigan, now has “United We Stand” on his yard signs. The R’s want to ruin that phrase too, as a way to snidely say All Lives Matter.

There’s a business/residence nearby with two giant Trump/Pence 2020 signs on either side of the driveway. To no one’s surprise, he also has like 6 American flags posted around the doors to his business. It pisses me off every time I drive by.

HAHAHAHA!
There’s a trucking company on the highway here that has exactly that. Laura remnants flipped and twisted the trump banner last night and the little American flags are a bit shredded. It all looked so pathetically stupid before the storm, now it just looks like the trash it is.

There is no way to get a valid score.
1. Trump doesn’t read so he couldn’t take the test.
2. Trump has 0 attention span so if someone read the questions he would abandon the test after the first question. After all, not a single question contains his name.
3. He lies about everything, and that would include his responses.

My older brother spent a good chunk of his working life as part of the Silent Service, then later acting as a interface with the Australian government on dealing with mating US submarine gear with Australia’s Collins class submarines.

During our last conversation, he flat out old me I wasn’t watching the right news sources, and then praised Trump for all of his fuck-ups which he considered as wins.

He made a very fatal mistake - he stated that he had purchased a revolver and was thinking about getting a 18-gauge shotgun. Once I relayed that to my mother, she has decided that in no way will she visit my older brother and his wife.

I understand. That was my original idea but at the time money was tight so I got 2 smaller tubes for under cabinets. And now I got the 36” for the so-called breakfast bar. It is a counter between the tiny kitchen and the dining room.

Tech has developed to the point that LED is dropping in price, and when the flourescent blows, you will have a good chance to replace just the tubes with LED equivalents.

I’ve replaced most of the incandescents in my home with LED. They’ve proven to be a sound investment. I don’t have any tube lights, though, all screw-type bulbs.

True but for right now my fluorescent tubes are lighting up the kitchen and dining room. And when I need to replace them LED’s will be at the top of the list.

Okay, I’ll bite.

Why are a bunch of Democratic mayors supporting Trump?

I don’t know, but I’ll take a stab at it based on the rantings of Richard Painter. Northern Minnesota is home to some pristine areas and mining companies are salivating about opening mines there. Probably few jobs there now (I think that’s pretty far north of the meat plants). The mines would likely corrupt the environment and even drinking water, but of course Trump wants the mines. Speculation.

FWIW, lottery sales appear to slowly be recovering. Don’t know what that means, other than people may be feeling a bit more comfortable with their discretionary spending.

The only item in my local grocery store which is still missing are the chlorine based kitchen/bath cleaners. Chlorine bleach in bottles is available, but the cleaner mixes are still absent, along with other sanitizing cleaners normally found in that aisle.

Same for Alaska. Took less than 5 minutes to request both Primary and General Election mail in ballots on line. We also have the tracking ability on line from the State SoS office.

The ballot does require a witness signature and lists examples of who is a “qualifying witness”. I called the mail in office and was told that a spouse qualifies. The ballot language is not very clear about this issue.

Minnesota’s is pretty clear: Any registered Minnesota voter can witness. Our primary ballots actually had the witness requirement waived; I wonder if they’ll do the same with the general. Not that it matters, since we are both registered to vote and are voting for the first time in almost a decade. (In my defense, in 2008 I had just gotten married, and in 2016 I was with Mrs. Fish in the hospital from her legendary car accident. I did vote for Obama in 2012.)

For the Primary Alaska sends you the ballot for the party for which you are registered in.
The Republican Primary is closed to registered Republicans only. All others get the generic Democrat ballot which will include Independent candidates. The winning contenders for the Democrats (House and Senate) are both registered Independents.

At our church, masks are required*. The * is because we don’t really enforce it, people take them off during the service, and even before/afterwards when they’re mingling many of them wear them below their noses. It frustrates the hell out of me, but all I do is keep my mask fully on at all times and try to set a good example.

hi

Extremely local news: My Internet service is not yet fixed. I waited all day at home, no tech.

It is briefly up now.

I called CenturyLink, they told me they’ve rescheduled for September 2. They didn’t bother to tell me while I was waiting all day at home though.

I was -uh- angry.

I’m going to take a look at that dark tendencies test talked about in the last thread. Reading the article, I have questions (for example, saying you’re willing to suffer harm yourself to see someone “get what they deserve isn’t really very nuanced: For example, being willing to testify in court against a popular person accused of a serious crime might indeed cause me some harm to see that person “get what he deserves” but doesn’t weigh that against the further harm that person might cause).

The other day I drove past a house in a very wealthy part of town. There was an American Flag flying in front of it and right below that a TRUMP 2020 flag…in the yard was a groundskeeping crew that appeared to be entirely Latino. I wonder how those guys feel about their client…

In my town there are only four people who fly any sort of flag (besides the Post Office and the village).

I fly an American flag and a Gold Star banner.
The hub of the VA nurse who lives across the street just put up a flagpole with an American flag and a Marine Corps flag (he’s retired from the Marines). He asked me if it was okay after he put it up. I noted his Marines flag is larger than the US flag, which violates the Flag Code.
The chairwoman of the village board has a US flag.

So this is interesting - take a look at the percentage saying the US did a “good job” handling the pandemic. I do believe that’s now the ceiling for GOP support (remember, trump “won” the electoral college with ~46% of the vote. Mitt Romney got 47% in 2012).

True but for right now my fluorescent tubes are lighting up the kitchen and dining room. And when I need to replace them LED’s will be at the top of the list.

Are there LED tube-style lamps which will fit into a fluorescent overhead light? It wouldn’t be saving money to me to rewire my kitchen and living room.

It is almost the same thing here in Philly. You cannot find Lysol spray or even those Clorox wipes. In place of the disinfectants there is a large selection of off brand hand sanitizers.

We’re still pretty much out of every sort of disinfectant cleaner or wipe other than chlorine bleach, and even that can be hard to find.

I filed for both primary and general ballots at the same time. (Have I mentioned Minnesota is awesome?) They will mail them as soon as they are made up. MN also has a handy portal to track the status of your ballot and verify it gets counted.

Nebraska also has such a portal to track your ballot from the moment it’s mailed to you until the moment it’s counted. I don’t have to worry about requesting mail ballots though since they are required here.

Yes, that is what I did some years back. I did some research about what was needed and what was nice and would make things more efficient, but not required. Then I went to CostCo and bought there. Mostly because if I screwed up, they were most likely willing to accept LED flourescent replacement bulbs as returns. I pretty much just put them in the old fixture and they have been working for about 5 years now.

The old flourescents were faded and failing. Their LED replacements were much brighter (iirc, twice as bright) and have an ‘official lifespan’ that is much longer. They were also much more expensive than the fluorescents.

The governor twists arms to force open public schools (except for a few which defied him), but of course won’t take responsibility for the fallout (because he’s a conservative).

174 Nebraska school districts vulnerable to COVID-19 lawsuits (Omaha World-Herald)

A new worry faces Nebraska school districts that reopened their buildings to students this fall.

What if someone sues, claiming their son or daughter caught COVID-19 because of a district’s negligence?

An insurance company that helps cover major claims for 174 Nebraska school districts and educational service units has made it clear that it won’t pay claims this school year related to communicable diseases like COVID-19.

That has some district officials wondering how they would pay for a huge court award if sued because someone got sick or died.

Some are hoping that Congress will provide schools with liability protection during the pandemic, but Democrats and Republicans don’t see eye to eye on the issue.

You guys do realize that now you have me thinking about repairing/replacing the fluorescent undercabinet lights in the the apartment attached to our house ( where my Mom lived before she died.) One of the lights buzzes something fierce, and I suspect installing a new ballast would be a PITA. (I suppose I’d have to take the light down to do it anyway as it is in a very awkward place to work.) Not worth hiring an electrician because no one actually lives there now and those lights are rarely on.

I really don’t need an electrical project right now. Or do I?

Interesting. I will consider it. I’m comfortable with very light electrical work. Mostly I’m good at looking at what is there, and replacing it with something new but essentially the same. Light fixtures, wall outlets and switches. That sort of thing.
