More Great New Music From Bleachers: “45” (On the ROOF Live at Electric Lady)

Yes, it’s another new track by Bleachers, my new favorite band. These lyrics are … [chef’s kiss]. (I’m pretty sure the Coltrane reference is intentional.)

count the steps around the park
consider drinking in the yard
hang the words of a perfect stranger
in the hallways of my heart

‘cause all the blessings are somebody else’s
they’re flowers in the neighbor’s pot
i’m torn exactly into two pieces
one who wants you and one who’s gone dark

but i’m still in sight
your fast machine
always holding your love supreme
our 45’s
spinning out of time
but honey i’m still on your side

are my hopes finally gonna waste me
am i the worst compass i could know
i took the bus across the bridge
sold my bedroom from my home

maybe it’s the east coast in the music
or the endless road from the past
but while you’re praying at the 90s
they’re carving up anything that lasts

but i’m still in sight
your fast machine
always holding your love supreme
our 45’s
spinning out of time
but honey i’m still on your side

no you’re just the stranger that i know best
now you’re just the stranger that i love best

there ain’t no book that i can live by
just these naggings i can’t shake
a hum coming from the basement
a little crying out for crying outs sake

‘cause if i can learn to love your shadow
when your shadow hits the light
and there ain’t no trace of what we’ve been though
then i’ll shout it till the day that i die

hey i’m still in sight
your fast machine
always holding your love supreme
our 45’s
spinning out of time
but honey i’m still on your side

JFC.

There has to be absolutely severe consequences for this. Recall of ambassadors, the complete severance of diplomatic relations, and I say go for the financial nuclear option: Kick Belarus out of the IBAN/SWIFT banking system and the immediate seizure of all Belarusian assets throughout the EU and the USA.

It’s 68 here in Los Angeles going to 72 today. Only a couple days so far it got to 90. Oh and now that I’m 65 I get additional benefits from rent stabilization which includes a new air conditioner that cools my main room down in minutes…

I’ve thought that cryptocurrency was frogwash from day zero, but it seems to me that deliberately scamming and then openly gloating about it to the type of people who might have a lot of money tied up in it is a rather unwise course of action for people who are not interested in becoming hog food.

Okay, so it was the Eurovision Grand Final last night, and the UK got “null points” not only from the entries judges jury but also the television vote. This means even countries that didn’t make the Grand Final (eg Ireland) could vote for UK and didn’t. So, no votes, even from Australia.

And I don’t blame them. Even if Brexit had not happened, the UK entry was “meh”. It might have been a strong entry 20 years ago, but it wouldn’t have got in the top 10 in this competition.

Here’s my favourite entry in this Eurovision. It got second place.

Gjon’s Tears - Tout l’Univers - LIVE - Switzerland 🇨🇭 - Grand Final - Eurovision 2021

Here’s the actual winners. They’re a hard rock band from Italy.

Måneskin - Zitti E Buoni - Italy 🇮🇹 - Grand Final - Eurovision 2021

This is the UK entry. Does anyone think this would win?

James Newman - Embers - LIVE - United Kingdom 🇬🇧 - Grand Final - Eurovision 2021

EDIT: This is Iceland

I just got back from a long walk on a local school area with the dog. She had several ticks, and I was able to get a couple. But these days it’s so common that if I look at her like I’m going to do a check, she bolts to under the dining table. I doubt that dogs understand much more than the usual tones of questions like “do you want to go for a walk?” But today my wife said when we got home, “there’s one on her left front leg” and she immediately ran under the table (probably read our body language). Anyway, it’s so unusual because she always gets a few treats and so she never does that.

Hubby’s getting ready to fire up the grill for burgers and hot dogs in a bit. I haven’t had a good burger in awhile because of my throat issues. I haven’t had one incident this week so I feel confident I’m good to go. I also gained 3 lbs this week because I can finally eat without things getting caught. Colonoscopy and endoscopy are Wednesday, now that I can eat I don’t feel so freaked out, but still hate how invasive this stuff is. I am really looking forward to barbecue chicken and ribs and all those goodies this summer. And grilled veggies of all kinds, drool…

It helps YOU.
Just tell them to knock your ass out because they do not want you jumping up on the table screaming “HE’S GOT A KNIFE!!!!”

hi

Extremely local news: The first tornado watch of the season here.

There is an extremely large and powerful tornado on the ground south of Sidney, Nebr. The National Weather Service just issued the following warning:

…A TORNADO WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 515 PM MDT FOR EASTERN
CHEYENNE COUNTY…

At 441 PM MDT, a large and extremely dangerous tornado was located 8
miles north of Twin Buttes, or 11 miles southeast of Sidney, moving
northeast at 55 mph.

This is a PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS SITUATION. TAKE COVER NOW!

HAZARD…Damaging tornado.

SOURCE…Radar indicated rotation.

IMPACT…You are in a life-threatening situation. Flying debris may
be deadly to those caught without shelter. Mobile homes
will be destroyed. Considerable damage to homes,
businesses, and vehicles is likely and complete destruction
is possible.

Locations impacted include…
Lodgepole and Sunol.

This includes Interstate 80 in Nebraska between mile markers 64 and
77.

Storms are moving south-to-north, so we’ll get our bite at the apple a bit later.

The Storm Prediction Center has moved us into the “enhanced risk” area.

Tim Hogan’s FISA string, lengthy but definitely worth it. This is about the charges against Pound Boy and Capitol riot conspirator Joseph Biggs. The Government’s detention request stated that Biggs’ destruction of property qualified as the “Federal crime of terrorism.” To meet this definition, an act must “transcend national boundaries.”

I’m wondering if this just might be the nugget that finally tipped the Cheneys to jump ship for good.

On FB every once in awhile someone posts one of those, “name an album where there are no disposable tracks.” No one ever agrees with me, but I think Freedy Johnston has two: “Can You Fly” and “This Perfect World.” I saw him at Second Story in Bloomington, IN in 1999 or 2000. There were only about 15 of us there. He asked for requests and I asked for this one. He said it was his favorite song.

That’s an interesting possibility. I’ve discussed the depth and breadth of the Cheney clan’s international and IC contacts, but it never occurred to me that they have similar contacts and sources in the GQP itself. They would though, going right down to the precinct level, which is where I believe direct Russian political meddling actually started, several years before TFG even announced his candidacy. It is ridiculously easy, and fairly safe, to buy off a yokel pulpit pimp. Hinterland conservatives are harder to buy off, since there are so many bidders and prices are high, but it is relatively easy to get juicy dirt on them, especially if your investigators are not encumbered by the law.

Belafon  May 23, 2021 • 6:01:38pm

Adam Silverman very much thinks NATO needs to aggressively respond:

The EU and NATO response needs to be that nothing takes off or lands in Belarus. Nothing flies over Belarus. Anything flying near Belarus is escorted by a combat air patrol (CAP). Nothing flies into or out of Belarus until it is interdicted by coalition air assets, escorted to the nearest coalition forces air base, inspected, and determined to not being carrying anything illegal or contraband. If Belarus activates its air defense system, coalition air destroys it and, if necessary, bounces the rubble. If Putin doesn’t like it than his air force assets can be escorted back to Russia’s borders and can then do figure eights till they have to go and refuel.

This cannot be business as usual. It can’t be nice sounding diplomatic language that achieves nothing. What Putin has learned for the past decade is that no matter what he does, no matter who he does it to, no one - not the US, not NATO, not the EU - will actually do anything to stop him that could actually stop him. And it is what his clients like Lukashenko and Orban have learned as well.

The US and our EU and NATO allies and partners decided it wasn’t risking a larger war when Putin scarfed up Crimea and invaded eastern Ukraine using his special operations forces and Wagner mercenaries - the little green men - back in 2014. All this did is embolden Putin because it taught him that short of formally and openly invading another nation-state with Russian forces, that he could do whatever he wanted because no one would do anything to stop him.
