Andrew Yang is what you get when you take a Silicon Valley guy who has been told he is super smart his whole life just because he has money and connections, and force them to actually explain their ideas in front of a camera.

re: #1 The Ghost of a Flea
I still know lefties that think he’s just super great.
They heard he supports UBI, and completely ignored *EVERYTHING* else he’s said or done.
Like all those leftie college students supporting Ron Paul in 2008. They heard “ending the war(s)” and “legalizing pot” and ignored everything else about him.
re: #3 Jack Burton, Gunner on Death Star of David
They heard he supports UBI
They just don’t see step 2 after that which would be “so now you have UBI, government won’t provide any other form of support. See ya!”

I’ve noticed that the underpants gnomes theory of government seems to be a much bigger problem with the left than the right.

That…is saying something.

But Charles, he’s got a kick, a snare, and a high hat. What more does a drummer need?
(Well, besides a girlfriend so he’s not homeless, I mean.)

Drummers are the Violists of popular music.
Like this:
“What do you call a drummer in a three-piece suit?
The defendant.”
About the “airmen” thing in the previous thread…
When I have to notify the FAA that the lights are out on a radio tower, the thing they issue is called a “NOTAM,” or “NOtice To AirMen.”
So it’s not purely a military term.
The real story of the Oregon Trail involves more genocide.

There is definitely hold over language. My UAS license refers to “Pilot” though.

I suppose they could change it to a NOTAP (NOtice To Air Persons), or just NOTOF (NOtice TO Flyers).
As a guy who used to have an IFR multi-engine jet ticket, I’ve got no heartburn changing it.

Certainly isn’t. I don’t have a “pilot’s license”, I have an “Airman certificate” with various license categories and endorsements, like “Pilot, multi-engine land” and “Pilot, rotary wing, turbine.” The same certificate is issued to navigators and flight engineers (nearly extinct though they are) as well as to mechanics, engineers, FBOs etc. The important thing is that “pilots” have ALWAYS been “pilots,” they were a subset of “airmen,” ie operators or “licensed personnel.” The terms are not equivalent and never have been.
Btw, military pilots also have an FAA certificate, so they too, were “airmen” though “Airman” (capitalized) is a junior enlisted rank in the Air Force.
After the gunman shot and killed the officer with a shotgun, he went to his truck and grabbed an AR-15 and headed toward the plaza area where Hurley shot and killed him. Police say Hurley then picked up the shooter’s weapon and cleared the chamber. https://t.co/ceGqQ5gPhM

What the hell kind of picking style is that. I keep watching that short video and trying to understand what’s going on in that right hand. It’s wild.
re: #17 No Malarkey!
The United States was founded to justify conquest of the continent.
If I taught that in school there would be protests from the usual crowd.
But it is important to understand that the conclusion of what we call the French and Indian war included a western border for British colonies, a border meant to define the westernmost reach of the British colonies.
The Declaration of Independence whines about the red savages, because colonists didn’t want to abide by the British crown’s limitations on their westward movement and interaction with the natives.
As long as the Crown controlled where colonists could or could not settle, the Native Americans only had to contend with Spanish claims and the colonial activities of France, which were pretty minimal outside parts of Canada and lower Mississippi river.

This is why so many people with guns never pull theirs out when a shooting starts.
Also proud—I posted Adrian Belew’s “Oh, Daddy” as a Happy Fathers’ Day post on my FB page. A few of my friends are his friends, so it ended up on his FB page. I think it’s automatic, so he probably doesn’t know.
I really wish I didn’t have a very incomplete grasp of how incredibly gigantic the universe is and the unimaginably vast distances between stars, so I could still believe UFOs are spacecraft piloted by extraterrestrial beings.

“Excessive Heat Warning” for above the Arctic Circle?
But there’s snow up there in the winter, so global warming has to be a hoax….
