The entire Murdoch freak show family is likely already preparing the scrub bins and buckets of bleach and pancake makeup necessary to clean DeSantis up for the big corporate push he likely will be getting officially from Fox News pretty soon.

Get ready for the Murdoch/Fox normalization attempt of a true Nazi- not just a pretend populist con man likeTrump.

Damn. Karl Rove, the mastermind of GW Bush’s two terms in the White House and a core member of The R Establishment, has just thrown DJT under the bus.

Imagine that! The R Establishment trying desperately to save the Party at the expense of DJT.

It’s almost like billionaires across the country have suddenly realized that DJT is going to lose and cost them billions of dollars in the midterms and decided they need to tack sideways and embrace Trad Republicans, only to discover that there are no Trad R’s left.

I have no sadz for them. They decided which dick to suck and realized it was the wrong dick.

It’s fairly clear that the Ukrainians did a lot of homework in preparation for their current Kherson offensive. They apparently ran their plans through wargaming/consultation with the US and likely Britain. And once the general outlines were settled upon, NATO tailored their logistical, training, and intelligence programs to best support the Ukrainian efforts.

From the CNN article, the goal of the offensive appears to be to kill and capture Russians, and capture limited geography, such as Kherson City, rather than some sort of “coup de grace”.

=

*snip*
Those discussions involved engaging in “war-gaming” with Kyiv, the sources said — analytical exercises that were intended to help the Ukrainian forces understand what force levels they would need to muster to be successful in different scenarios.
*snip*
Pentagon spokesperson Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder told CNN that “the United States has routine military-to-military dialogue at multiple levels with Ukraine. We will not comment on the specifics of those engagements. Generally speaking, we provide the Ukrainians with information to help them better understand the threats they face and defend their country against Russian aggression. Ultimately, the Ukrainians are making the final decisions for their operations.”

I do get some warning signs looking at their web pages, though. :(

The Amazon page, doesn’t as far as I can see, have any prices.

I am not familiar with the “notag” shop and would want to do research before I considered buying from them. And, the listed prices there are kind of steep for my needs. :)

This is an interesting bit of news:

Chip designer Nvidia Corp on Wednesday said that U.S. officials told it to stop exporting two top computing chips for artificial intelligence work to China, a move that could cripple Chinese firms’ ability to carry out advanced work like image recognition and hamper a business Nvidia expects to generate $400 million in sales this quarter.

Nvidia said it had booked $400 million in sales of the affected chips this quarter to China that could be lost if Chinese firms decide not to buy alternative Nvidia products.

Stacy Rasgon, a financial analyst with Bernstein, said the disclosure signaled that about 10% of Nvidia’s data center sales, which investors have closely monitored in recent years, were coming from China and that the hit to sales was likely “Manageable” for Nvidia.

Hindering China’s ability to easily create AI tech. Strong statement from the United States and this is a much bigger deal than it looks. The A100 already has minimal competition, and the H100 is one of the biggest jumps in AI hardware. Furthermore, Nvidia pretty much is the AI chip ecosystem.

An evacuation notice that popped up on television Wednesday telling residents to “immediately” evacuate Los Angeles was broadcast in error, a sheriff’s office said.

Viewers in Ventura County were watching TV when programming was interrupted to show the message: “Emergency alert system. A civil authority has issued an IMMEDIATE EVACUATION NOTICE for the following counties or areas.” The list included Los Angeles, Eastern North Pacific Ocean, and Port Conception to Guadalupe. It is not yet known how many viewers received the alert.

Two tweets — one in English and one in Spanish — were later posted by the Ventura Country Sheriff’s Department stating the message was sent in error.

The false alarm came as a series of wildfires erupted in California Wednesday, prompting a number of localized evacuations in northwestern Los Angeles county. It triggered concern on Twitter, with one user posting: “That was scary! I called the Sheriff’s Office to see what was going on. LA better get it together.”

So I read the article, and AMD has offerings, some of which have also been blocked by the government. Looking at the specs, Nvidia products seem to be better in terms of computing power and efficiency. I guess the big problem AMD would have is Nvidia clearly saw a market when their graphics cards were being used for machine learning in college and jumped on it.

When is Tucker Carlson going to chalk this up as more proof of White Replacement Theory?

Trump’s lawyers keep digging holes. Here, Alina Habba basically admits that classified documents were left unsecured in the presence of uncleared people:

Trump’s legal team is trying to prepare the battlefield and claim that an impartial jury cannot be seated therefore a mistrial is warranted. Their claim is that the mass media has “already tried and convicted him”.

They will stupidly fail, but here it is nonetheless.

I think it is time for them to pull out every stalling and delaying tactic they can find to give the Organization time to cover its assets and park them in safe places so they are not seized and impounded when the axe finally comes down.

Yeah, and of course every law enforcement agency that boasts search/seizure of materials lays out stuff like this. Every jury that considers evidence seized will see photos like this as part of chain of custody discussions.

But this one is suspect? Yeah, Trump stole classified docs, and mishandled them. He was caught redhanded, but the FBI faked this? Or is it now that these wrappers are themselves faked by Trump to give appearance that they’re secret docs, but are not actually secret.

He took wrappers, but not the docs? Is that where they’re going with this?

Trump thinks that the problem is that the FBI photo showing chain of custody somehow implies that Trump was messy.

That’s not what the photo shows. It shows chain of custody indicating that Trump possessed classified documents he was not entitled to possess. He mishandled classified documents in an unsecure facility. Those are felonies by his own hand and doing.

Don’t we all:

But, an interesting tidbit:

An estimated 71% of this age group gets news daily from social media. The social media diet is becoming more varied; Facebook doesn’t dominate the way it used to. About a third or more get news each day from YouTube and Instagram, and about a quarter or more from TikTok, Snapchat and Twitter. Now, 40% say they get news from Facebook daily, compared with 57% of millennials who said that in a 2015 Media Insight Project survey.

Yet 45% also said they get news each day from traditional sources, like television or radio stations, newspapers and news websites.

The poll found that about a quarter of young people say they regularly pay for at least one news product, like print or digital magazines or newspapers, and a similar percentage have donated to at least one nonprofit news organization.

Because GOP state leaders just can’t help being assholes:

MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) - Many former college students across Mississippi will see relief on their student loans after President Joe Biden’s recent announcement.

However, those Mississippi residents who did get part of their debt forgiven will still be taxed on it, according to a recent Bloomberg article.

Biden’s student loan debt relief plan includes forgiveness of up to $10,000 for federal borrowers or $20,000 for those who received Pell Grants.

Thanks to a line in last year’s American Rescue Plan, relieved student loan borrowers won’t get saddled with a big tax bill. From 2021 to 2025, forgiven student loans won’t be included as part of gross income in consideration for federal taxes.

“Typically, loan forgiveness is treated as taxable income. This makes sense from a big-picture tax policy perspective,” John Buhl, an analyst at the Tax Policy Center, wrote in an email to Insider. “But for someone getting $10,000 or $20,000 in forgiveness, that could equate to a year-end tax bill well into the four figures.”

However, the forgiveness could still be subject to state taxes in the Magnolia State.

Most blue states have already decided the student loan forgiveness will be EXEMPT from state taxes, but expect more red states to follow Mississippis lead just to stick it to Biden.

Palin lost because she was so unpopular that half of Begich’s voters either flipped to Peltola or didn’t chose an alternative because they wouldn’t vote for Palin. Rank choice voting didn’t cause that, but it’s a handy excuse for Palin other than that she’s just a bad candidate.

Not a real Yamamoto quote. I believe that was a line from the movie.

I’ve never seen anything that’s attributed as the origin of that false quote. Like some historians have pointed out, while Admiral Yamamoto never actually said that, he most likely certainly did think it. He knew very well that the Pearl Harbor raid was a gamble, a major roll of the dice, and that the Japanese Empire’s victory was far from certain.

So twitter is pushing the Fortune article which itself is pushing the Goldman Sachs claim that we are in a housing downturn.

But GS also claims prices really won’t go down, or at least not by much.

I’ve been on a kick the past couple of years thinking about and tracking local housing.

Prices in San Diego County have gone up so much that most people can’t afford to buy if they don’t already have considerable equity in a current house.

And this is why prices can’t come down much: we as a nation are too invested in the idea that owning a residence is the primary (often only) savings method.

So we can’t let residential prices fall too much or too much of people’s savings/retirement will vanish.

I’m pretty sure it is from a movie.

Yamamoto, and the Japanese Imperial Navy, studied their plans for attack and control of the Pacific. They knew they had half a year in which to secure their empire before the US and its allies would be able to stop Japan.

And it turned out that was about right. Of course the US success at the battle of Midway made the difference. Still, at least the Japanese Navy, if not the Army, knew the clock was ticking.

Unfortunately markets don’t care about your retirement. The current spike in housing has come largely from large real estate investors. If nobody can afford to buy though, eventually prices will come down if investors decide it is no longer a safe place to invest. There is a housing shortage though so it will probably be a while before inventories and demand match up and prices drop.

A mock air raid was staged by a US carrier group on Pearl Harbor at dawn Sunday, February 7, 1932, as part of a military exercise designed to test Pearl Harbor’s vulnerability to a surprise attack. The results of which led to a political dust up between the US Army & US Navy.

Sources tell tabloid Radar Online that former first lady Melania Trump feels “violated” by the FBI search, which successfully retrieved several boxes of classified government documents, including some that were designated at top secret.

In fact, the source tells Radar that Melania was so upset that she bought an entirely new set of underwear afterward.

“Melania doesn’t like the idea of strangers going rifling through her things,” the source claimed. “Who knows who touched her underwear during the raid? She’s never going to feel comfortable wearing those ever again.”
