Rep. James Comer (R-KY), the top Republican on the House Oversight committee, told NBC News: “We’re going to investigate between 40 and 50 different things.”

Response to every one: I was told the focus would be on crime and inflation.

Sen. Joe Manchin’s (d-w.va.) side deal with Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) to enact permitting reform before the end of the year is on life support as Republicans look to deprive the lawmaker of a major victory that could aid his potential 2024 reelection,” The Hill reports.

“Manchin is in discussions with GOP colleagues about striking a deal on permitting reform in the lame-duck session, but Republicans say it faces an uphill path as they view his West Virginia Senate seat as a top pickup opportunity in the next election.”

Just typical of Republicans: getting the hypersensitive vapors over overwrought perceptions of “infractions” of “freedom of speech” (In this case, explicit Holocaust Denialism, so obviously no biggie for GOPers); while carefully not noticing that Andrew Bates’ comments are precisely what they defend in their previous paragraph: i.e. “condemnation” - no calls for punitive, German-style laws against it; no proposals for *official* restrictions on said expression; no Orwellian condemnation of “wrongthink”- just a public condemnation of antisemitic genocide-excusal.
So - obviously offensive to those “Young Republicans”…..*

* I have to wonder what the average age of the NYYRC membership might actually be….

Phrase of the day: Nano-Theranostic Modality

Ways of finding and treating ectopic pregnancies are being found. So far: works in mice.

First part of the Abstract from the above link:

Ectopic pregnancy (EP) is the leading cause of maternity-related death in the first trimester of pregnancy. Approximately 98% of ectopic implantations occur in the fallopian tube, and expedient management is crucial for preventing hemorrhage and maternal death in the event of tubal rupture. Current ultrasound strategies misdiagnose EP in up to 40% of cases, and the failure rate of methotrexate treatment for confirmed EP exceeds 10%.

In lay-person words:

Once the nanoparticles are concentrated in the placenta, the organ can be seen through fluorescent and photoacoustic imaging, and it quickly becomes clear whether the placenta is where it’s supposed to be. If it is, the patient would know she did not have an ectopic pregnancy, and the embryo is unaffected by the particles as they do not cross the placental barrier.

If the placenta is in a fallopian tube or other incorrect location, the pregnancy could be ended by exposure to near-infrared light, which causes the nanoparticles to rise in temperature above 43 degrees Celsius and irreparably disrupt placental function via heat.

The placenta will need some right-winger protections from scientists!//////

My house was built in 1908. It has double verandahs (all around on both floors), which I think is one of the best things a house could have. Back then, rich people were likely to be pitiless robber-barons (as many are today) but they had decent taste or at least enough sense to listen to someone who did. The social system of the time demanded it. That system is dead and gone, and good riddance, but it did leave behind some real treasures.

Now that’s one map that’s…FINGER LICKIN’ GOOD!

But you need the Cole slaw to go with it!

From the Original Pantry and 9th & Figueroa St., Downtown L.A.

3/4 c. mayonnaise
3 tbsp. sugar
1 1/2 tbsp. white wine vinegar
1/3 c. oil
1/8 tsp. garlic powder
1/8 tsp. onion powder
1/8 tsp. dry mustard
1/8 tsp. celery salt
Dash of black pepper
1 tbsp. lemon juice
1/2 c. half and half
1/4 tsp. salt
1 lg. head cabbage, very finely shredded

Blend together mayonnaise, sugar, vinegar and oil. Add garlic and onion powders, mustard, celery salt, pepper, lemon juice, half and half and salt. Stir until smooth. Pour over cabbage in large bowl and toss until cabbage is well coated. Makes 8 to 10 servings.

I have no evidence to support this, (See? I can admit that what I’m about to say is an opinion, not a fact) but I do know that I have been around people with covid on multiple occasions and have never tested positive nor had any covid-related symptoms, and I think I may just be naturally immune to the damn thing. I have had four shots, the most recent being about three weeks ago.

Is it possible that I have never had it? Or is it more likely that it may be a combination of both a strong(er) immune system combined with the vaccines?

Spoken like a True Republican!

Herschel Walker tells disenchanted young Americans to ‘find somewhere else’ and give up citizenship

Herschel, how do you feel about people that wanna change America from when you and I were kids? I mean, they, I mean, there’s, you know, we have I guess it’s eighty to ninety or seventy to eighty million people in America that were born after 1990. So these are kids who, you know, who grew up, you know, when they were ten years of age with the real beginning of the computers and the internet at home. So they don’t know the world that we know pre-internet.

They don’t know that the bullying was not really - we may have been bullied when we were kids, you know, in a class, or teased and things like that - but not, not the type of culture that these kids have with the internet today. What do you say to those kids and those young people that are voting?

Walker:

Well, first of all, they don’t know that the grass is not greener on the other side, that they think there’s somewhere better, and if they know another place that’s better than the United States of America, my thing is, why don’t you go there? Or tell me and let me know who that is because I can tell them right now there’s not.

I think our biggest problem is we have not shown our kids that most of the people today haven’t earned the right to change America. And what I mean by that. There’s people that have died, that have given their life up, there are people that have given their life up for this flag, they’ve given this life up, that, for this National Anthem, they’ve given their life up for our freedom and these liberties that we have in this country today. And we’re taking it for granted. Well, I don’t want that to happen. And I’m saying, and I’m not being tough, I’m saying if you know a place better, you go there, but you’ll lose your citizenship here in the United States of America.

As I understand it, the people who get really sick have STRONGER immune systems, since what makes them sick is their body going to war against healthy cells. The reason vaccines help is they tip off your immune system that they don’t need to go into overdrive at the first sighting of the proteins.
