Steely Dan - Two Against Nature (Sony Studios NYC 2000) This is their fantastic concert in full with the interviews carefully edited out. As a big fan I bought this DVD when it was released and only recently got around to editing out the disruptive interviews. The sound has been carefully downmixed and crossfaded from the DTS multichannel to stereo for YouTube. Thank you Donald and Walter (any your amazing band) for doing what you do and making the world a much better place for millions of devoted fans. TURN UP this jazz rock party and enjoy !!

In reference to the last thread, there are such things as Christmas Unicorn baubles.

Also, a new trailer for the forthcoming Doctor Who specials has been released. If you’re a fan, it may be a bit spoilery, so I’ll put in a private tag.

This is mostly the footage shot for the episode directed by Rachel Talahay that fans on shoot locations were talking about earlier this year. Also,

* Beep the Meep (character from old Who comic strip) appears to be making an appearance.
* There’s a bit more teasing on whether the character played by Neil Patrick Harris is actually The Celestial Toymaker (Very powerful Who villain from 1960s Who, who only appeared in one story.)

I made rye bread dough & went to the kosher bodega to pick up some cold cuts for Hanukkah Deli Night but all the non-Jewish workers had the day off. There was only one register open and the line went all the way to the back of the store. Even the doughnut counter was empty.

So, we’ll have burgers & fried chicken cutlets on fresh rye bread! Instead of potato salad I think I will make latkes in the spirit of the season.

We’ve finally gotten beyond freezing. It’s currently 40°F / 4°C … the predicted high has been lowered to 42°F though.

The freeze in my kitchen drain unclogged, and the stagnant water drained out. The bathtub drain is still frozen.

The snow is melting around my car now. I might be able to get it out later today.

I’m going to retire now. I’ll catch y’all later.

Exactly. None of them are expecting Twitter to be profitable.

It’s also possible, though, that they invested in it just to make sure it died, and Musk is doing a great job of killing it.

Well Congratulations to the Tiny Penis Club for enabling another shooting on Christmas Day!

Husband Shoots Wife, Self at Jehovah’s Witness Kingdom Hall

A husband and wife are dead at a Jehovah’s Witness Kingdom Hall in Thorton, Colorado, in what local police are investigating as a homicide.

The Thornton Police Department posted a news release to Twitter stating that an adult male shot and killed his wife before dying by suicide. “On a day that’s historically associated with joy, family and fun, we’re saddened to inform you of the following,” the news release read. According to the post, the couple were former members of the Kingdom Hall congregation—no services were taking place at the time of the shooting.

I had four secret santa subscriptions to give away, and I’m throwing in another two, so I have six presents to give away.

I made a list of 25 relatively frequent LGF members who don’t yet have subscriptions, then wrote a quick PHP script to shuffle them and pick the first six.

Lovely warm day today, quite a change from most of December, which has been below normal in temps.

Won’t last long, though. Tuesday rain arrives, and the rest of the month will be cloudy with possible showers, and cool.

But not as cold as the coldest part of December.

We’re still several inches below normal for precip for the calendar year. For the rain-year (starts Oct 1) we’re doing ok, but that was true last year too, and then the rain shut off.

Dec 25 (Reuters) - Thousands of residents were without power near Tacoma, Washington, after three electrical substations were vandalized, local authorities said on Sunday, adding that it was not yet clear if the Christmas Day incidents were linked.

The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department said robberies were reported at two substations belonging to Tacoma Public Utilities and another belonging to Puget Sound Energy. Deputies cited forced entry into the fenced-in area, with equipment vandalized but nothing taken from the sites, it said. More than 14,000 customers were affected.

“At this time deputies are conducting the initial investigation. We do not have any suspects in custody. It is unknown if there are any motives or if this was a coordinated attack on the power systems,” the department said in a statement on its website.

We would cut school and take the trolly to K&A and jump on the Frankford Elevated to Bridge and Pratt which was the last stop north. Step off the car, shuffle your feet on the platform and get back on the car to the southbound Elevated to 69th and Market streets. No transfer needed.
Hungry? How about 5 soft pretzels for 25 cents?
You could panhandle that from a dead man.
Then you could feed the pigeons on the platform for the pleasure of it.
One for you.
One for me.
Oh, you brought some friends?
Here you go.
Cooo…Cooooo. Cooooo….
It was a great vista to observe the city itself. Went underground about Front and somewhere and then was a subway until it became an El once again. Cloudy memories. Run that back and forth till the fabled school police were supposedly gone and you free to run the streets.
Get off on the car at Market street and wander Gimbels and Strawbridge and Clothier and Woolworths.
With a good booster with you and you as the cover for the store dicks to follow, you came home with gifts for yours and you.
Clinton McAlister, the master of deception, was the best shop lifter I was ever witness to.

Whoops, it went out the door.
Stash it, go back in separate, never meet but work together and man what a rush.
5 or 7 plays later….Yeah we got to goes.
Collect and travel back to hood and have a sale.

I got garrison belts, cashmere long coats, leather coats, and Italian knit shirts for next to nothing but the balls to do it.
We lifted first for self then to sell.
Oh the fucking rush as you hit the door.
Count the steps….
Close on the subway entrance…..

In addition to the turkey, Mrs. Fish made mashed potatoes, gravy, and stuffing. Mrs. Fish’s mom made a roast pork butt and wild rice and mushroom soup, heated up a pre-cooked spiral cut ham, and set out a bunch of desserts. We also provided a charcuterie board of summer sausage, cheeses, and crackers.

That’s why being a fanboi for rich people is a red flag that you’re a tool.

I’ve had many clients approach a project like they were giving me business advice. Strangely, that was always a justification for reducing the price. Because they’re businessmen. As if being a CEO of a F500 company gives them a better insight to my profession though I’ve been in more than 30 years. But the best one?

After putting together a large proposal in multiple technologies the client says ‘I’ll have my son look at it, he’s real good with this stuff.’ Finding out later the son is 16 or 20. Or that the son is an electrical engineer. As if that applies to my proposal.

This is usually a red flag.

I’ve been working a lot with Mastodon and some other decentralized apps lately, and getting a much better sense of how these systems work.

I was thinking of installing a Mastodon instance for LGF, in fact. It isn’t very difficult if you know how to work the command line, which I do.

Would you folks be interested in that? It would be like a Twitter-ized version of LGF is what I’m thinking.

I think Mastodon users have developed a rather insular community with some conventions that are going to seem weird to people used to Twitter and Facebook, like the idea that “quote tweeting” is a bad thing. It doesn’t have to be, and in fact it’s an important tool for combating misinformation.

While I agree that sometimes centralized is better, decentralized means no buy out by an Elmo the Boi Nazi and other advantages on that side. So, yeah, I’d find an LGF server interesting.

Fox will put a group of celebrities through intense military-style training in a new competition show.

The network has set a January premiere date for Special Forces: The Ultimate Test, which will follow 16 celebs as they take on a series of challenges pulled from the actual special forces selection process under the eye of four former military operatives.

One of the “celebrities” in question? The infamous Anthony Scaramucci.

So to be sure I understand - on the LGF Mastodon instance - there would be 3 tiers of Mastodon access, as on my present instance/server:

Home: Postings only from my follows and their boosted posts.

Local: Most recent public posts from people whose accounts are hosted by my instance.

Federated: Most recent public posts from people on this and other servers of the decentralized network that this instance knows about.

IMHO, having the 3 tiers is not a bug, but a feature not available on twitter.
