LYRICS:
The 5-watt rock
It ain’t too loud
It ain’t too tough
It ain’t too proud
It won’t reach the back of a stadium
If you wanna do that, you need a bigger kick drum

The 5-watt rock
Can still get down
Wake up the block and draw a little crowd, and
In that crowd, there’s a special gal who
Thinks I’m alright, cuz I sing so well…

All that I got
All that I need
All the way up
Let it bleed, it’s
All that I know
1, 2, 3…
5 watts to make you
My baby

The 5-watt rock
It’s got “that sound”
And the neighbors won’t cry:
“TURN IT DOWN!”
Instead they’ll invite you to their house
With a case of Bud Light and your 5 watts out

And nobody tries to kill your buzz
File a complaint or call the fuzz, cuz
No one denies when you drive it home
Gettin’ all of that meat off the 5-watt bone

5 watts to set you free
5 watts to shoot you straight
Out of the mystery
Onto the master tape
Back to the potter’s wheel
Into the mirror’s gaze
That’s where the tree falls down

You know the sound it makes…

Remember that gal
Back in verse 1
Would you believe we fell in love
And we had a kid
And the kid’s a champ
And it’s all thanks to my little 5-watt amp

Rando

It’s an absolute indictment of the Republican party that the two frontrunners for their party nomination are a traitorous, rapist, mentally-impaired orange buffoon facing multiple indictments, and a midget Fascist wannabe who is so stiff and stilted he makes John Kerry and Al Gore look like Freddy Mercury by comparison.

I mean, how bad off is your party that you would look at these two choices and think “Yup, these are our two best chances of winning the presidency.”?

This dude is an amazing singer. His 5 Watt Rock is very powerful. The title rolls off a lot better than 5.56VA Rock.

That’s what they get for turning their political party into a personality cult. They’re only “their two best chances” because the revolting base won’t vote for anybody who isn’t a complete shitstain, but nobody outside that base is going to vote for them. It’s only going to be a close election because of the Electoral College and extreme Republican gerrymandering.

The David blowup is all about of asserting state control over schools and what they can teach.

If teachers and staff are kept in fear of losing their jobs, they will just throw in the towel and show nothing but pictures of angels clad in nine layers of robes and no visible ankles, discuss no aspects of black history that might cause “discomfort” (which means basically none at all), no aspects of gender and society that are not controversial (ditto) and produce generations of dullard school graduates who will vote for the GOP.

It’s still true that Trump got 74 million votes in 2020 — a terrible commentary on our nation. More votes than anyone in prior history — and lost only because Biden’s 81 million votes came in the right states. A change of 45,000 votes in the wrong places, and Trump would have been re-elected. The EC will be our doom.

Principal resigns after Florida students shown Michelangelo statue

In an interview with US outlet Slate, the chair of the school’s board, Barney Bishop III, said that last year the principal sent a notice to parents warning them that students were going to see Michelangelo’s David - but that this wasn’t done this year. He called it an “egregious mistake” and said that “parents are entitled to know anytime their child is being taught a controversial topic and picture”.

Aaarrrghhh! It is only controversial because slack jawed yokels think their disgraceful, embarrassing ignorance is as valid as actual knowledge. They probably have no idea that this statue is hundreds of years old or that most people in even Victorian times did not regard it as obscene or pornographic.

Forensic pathologist Dr. Judy Melinek wrote a very interesting nonfiction book called “Working Stiff”. One of her observations is that, in her experience if you die in the presence of your pet(s), your dogs most likely won’t eat your corpse until they’re desperate and nearly starving to death. Dogs can be scavengers in a pinch, but they don’t usually chow down until they’re out of options.

Your cats, on the other hand, won’t even wait until you’re cold.

I never understood buying a car from Carvana. In defense of the car dealership this veteran brought his car too, when they plug in their computer to the car it automatically brings up the VIN. The VIN on the door and window didn’t match the chassis VIN, and it was the wrong year. I hope he wins.

An Army veteran has revealed he was scammed out of $68,000 after buying a second-hand car which turned out to be stolen.

Jason Scott was looking to surprise his wife with the 2021 Maserati SUV which had been falsely advertised on second-hand car site Carvana back in November.

But when the couple took their car to be serviced at a local Maserati dealership in February - just four months after buying it - they learnt it had been stolen.

In a society where a woman could be stoned to death for adultery, if the personage of Mary is real and religion was everywhere, it is not unreasonable for her to claim an angel came to her to avoid being killed by religious zealots compassionate conservatives.

Apologetics I’ve heard:

God’s morals aren’t our morals. God’s are superior. (Also used to excuse genocide and rape in the Bible.)
It’s was all part of God’s plan (can’t explain plan).
Mary consented.
Joseph adopted Jesus (not mentioned in the Bible).
It was necessary to fulfil prophecies (doesn’t explain why an allegedly omnipotent god couldn’t find a different way or set it up that way).

Far Right Christian Nationalist Brags His ‘Biblical Worldview’ Group Is Behind Sarah Huckabee Sanders’ Anti-Trans Law (The New Civil Rights Movement, yesterday)

Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders signed legislation Tuesday prohibiting transgender people from using public school facilities that match their gender identity. Later that same day, Jason Rapert, a former Arkansas state senator and founder of the National Association of Christian Lawmakers, posted a video crediting his organization for the legislation.

Rapert, a longtime religious-right activist and ardent Christian nationalist, bragged that this piece of legislation was first proposed by Arkansas school board member David Naylor during an annual NACL meeting, endorsed by the organization, and finally brought to the Arkansas state legislature by state Rep. Mary Bentley, who serves on the board of the NACL.

“The NACL has seven working committees,” Rapert said. “Those committees actually debate and discuss every major policy issue in this country, all from a biblical worldview.”

“We make model laws,” he continued. “Do you know that just recently Rep. Mary Bentley of Arkansas passed a model law that the NACL adopted at their last meeting in the state of Texas?”

“Rep. Mary Bentley, [who] is our chair of the National Legislative Council, she went to the Arkansas legislature, took that concept that came from Dr. David Naylor that was then adopted by the full body of the NACL, and guess what? It’s already been placed into law in the state of Arkansas,” Rapert crowed. “That’s the difference the NACL can make in your community.”

Catholic bishops have come out against “aquamation” (dissolving the human body in alkali liquids) and human composting, arguing those methods disrespect God and show no hope for resurrection. They seek to oppose laws in California which permit these methods after a person dies.

You don’t like them? Fine. You want to try to convince Catholics or others why they shouldn’t do it? Fine. You want to legislate your religious beliefs into state law? Follow some other state laws then like turning over all your child rapists to stand trial and covering up two thousand years of child rape. Maybe pay some taxes on your businesses.

Human composting, alkaline hydrolysis disrespect the human body, U.S. Catholic bishops say (Catholic World Report, two days ago)

The U.S. bishops’ doctrine committee on Thursday issued a statement reiterating the Church’s preference for burial of the deceased and stating that newer methods — namely alkaline hydrolysis and human composting — do not show respect for the human body.

“In recent years, newer methods and technologies for disposition of the bodies of the deceased have been developed and presented as alternatives to both traditional burial and cremation. A number of these newer methods and technologies pose serious problems in that they fail to manifest the respect for last remains that Catholic faith requires,” the bishops wrote March 23.

“Unfortunately, the two most prominent newer methods for disposition of bodily remains that are proposed as alternatives to burial and cremation, alkaline hydrolysis and human composting, fail to meet this criterion.”

The Catholic Church also used to be opposed to cremation and tried to get legislation against that.

If the Romans had the electric chair back in the day, Christians would be wearing little electric chairs around their necks today. (Protestants would show an empty electric chair, while Catholics and Orthodox would show a dead Jesus sitting in it.) Electric chairs would adorn bumper stickers, t-shirts, churches, billboards, advertising, movies, &c.

Man accused of stabbing his wife to death during Bible study in Minnesota

March 24, 2023 / 6:31 AM / CBS News

A man has been charged with murder after allegedly stabbing his wife to death during a Bible study at a home earlier this week, CBS Minnesota reports.

The Ramsey County Attorney’s Office charged 40-year-old Robert Castillo, of St. Paul, with second-degree murder in connection to Tuesday’s stabbing.

CBS Minnesota, citing the criminal complaint, reports St. Paul police officers responded to the residence at around 9 p.m. on the report of a stabbing. When they arrived, they found 41-year-old Corinna Woodhull with severe injuries to her torso, chest and arms. Police said Castillo was being held down on the floor by several people.

Woodhull was treated at the scene and taken to Regions Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Castillo’s sister told police that she hosts Bible study at the home on Tuesday nights with family members. She said Woodhull and Castillo arrived and sat together on a couch, the complaint said.

At the time of his arrest, he was wanted on a warrant for failure to appear at a pre-trial hearing in a different county. He allegedly assaulted a prison guard while in jail.

He has eight felony convictions, including beating his previous wife with a hammer.

Ms. Woolhull is survived by her five children.
