Colbert: Mike Pence Ordered to Testify; School Bans Dolly Parton’s “Rainbowland”; Gwyneth’s Rectal Ozone Therapy

Forcing former VP Pence to testify about the Jan 6th insurrection is good for the country, unlike banning kids from singing Dolly Parton songs or copying Gwyneth Paltrow by getting ozone gas blown up where the sun doesn’t shine.

re: #361 Wendell Zurkowitz ((slave to the waffle light))

I see it as a distant possibility, as the party establishment (who still have a role to play in the process) would like to groom DeSantis for 2028 and that would be the best way.

The GOP are going full Culture Wars and Family Values and Party of American Moral Renewal, etc., and who could be the better pos(t)er child for that than RDS?

Governor Puddin’ Fingers just got his ass handed to him by Disney, and largely succeeded in making him look like an impotent tool.

Not a good look for the “culture warrior” types.

Republicans don’t give a fuck about children

Jeff Tiedrich

Republicans were so busy protecting children from learning that Rosa Parks was black that they forgot to protect them from being murdered in their classrooms.

Republicans were so busy protecting children from seeing that Michaelangelo’s David has a penis that they forgot to protect them from being murdered in their classrooms.

It goes on…

China-linked Russian body armor is landing on the battlefield in Ukraine

A Russian body armor manufacturer is importing Chinese components for its vests — some of which are being used on the battlefield in Ukraine, according to trade data, photographs and Ukrainians who say they’ve recovered the vests from the front lines.

In 2022, multiple Chinese companies, including one linked to the government in Beijing, sent parts for body armor manufacturing to Klass, a Russian manufacturer of body armor with ties to the country’s national guard and law enforcement, according to customs and trade data obtained by POLITICO from Import Genius, a customs data aggregator.

Armored vests produced by the company are being used by Russian troops in Ukraine, according to photos and videos posted online, and Ukrainians who are selling the vests on eBay say they took them from the battlefield.

Kansas Republican asserts ‘God-given’ gun rights during tense debate on concealed carry fees

rawstory.com

A day after a deadly mass shooting in Nashville, Tennessee, Rep. Rebecca Schmoe, an Ottawa Republican, advocated for a bill reducing concealed carry licensing fees out of concern that lower-income Kansans cannot afford to pay them. Schmoe said it was wrong to have to pay to “exercise a right” and that people who opposed the bill were discriminating based on finances.

“It means that you do believe in separate access to rights based upon income, and that low-income need not apply.” Schmoe said. “I urge you to stand for the rights that we are granted — our natural, God-given rights.”

Thomas Geoghegan, “Dear GOP, Default is Unconstitutional,” Politico (March 31, 2011).

“…The drafters of the 14th Amendment properly feared that, on readmission to the Union, legislators from the red states — I mean the Confederates — might try to impair the credit of the United States.

Nothing could be more inimical to U.S. national security. Ask any war leader — from Henry II to Winston Churchill. Unless the validity of the public debt is unquestioned, especially by the government’s elected officials, there is great difficulty even in putting an army in the field.

Without our nation’s unimpaired credit, we might have lost to the Confederacy. We might have lost to the Axis in World War II. No, the validity of the public debt should not even be questioned in the weeks ahead.”

Apparently Russia arrested a Wall Street Journal reporter for ‘spying’. The assumption currently is that Russia has two objectives.
1. To shut down Western reporting in Russia
2. As a hostage to be used for trade to Europe in return for a bunch of Russian undercover (aka illegal) espionage agents arrested over past year.

Fairfax County Police Statement on the Richmond Highway Barricade situation.

*snip*
On Tuesday around 11 a.m., officers were called to the 7200 block Fordson Road in Alexandria to check the area for Brittany Copelin, 29, who was reported missing by Charles County Sheriff’s Office. When officers arrived, they were approached by a woman who claimed she was abducted by Copelin on Mar. 24 in Maryland.

Officers searched the area for Copelin and found the 2016 Jeep SUV in a parking lot in the 7300 block of Richmond Hwy. Officers attempted to stop the Jeep but Copelin drove away. Officers engaged in a short pursuit until the Jeep came to a stop on the service road at Richmond Hwy and Arlington Blvd. Copelin displayed a firearm to officers and refused to exit the Jeep.
*snip*
Thanks to the tireless dedication of our officers, clinicians, the Alexandria Police Department, Virginia State Police and George Mason University Police, Copelin was safely taken into custody this morning. Copelin was assessed by Fairfax County Fire and Rescue personnel at the scene to ensure her physical well-being. She was then taken to the Adult Detention Center where she was charged with two counts of abduction, two counts of use of a firearm in commission of a felony and felon in possession of a firearm. Copelin is held without bond. Copelin is also facing charges from the City of Laurel Police Department.

Fortunately, I’m taking allergy shots and it’s much easier to co-exist with my feline overlord now.

If you get a parasite, you can distract your immune system from the cats.

Not quite the same but as Depeche Mode put it,

I don’t want to start any blasphemous rumours
But I think that God’s got a sick sense of humour
And when I die, I expect to find him laughing

amazing how that didnt take 2+ years to figure out what happened before an arrest was made

Looking at the picture and this line from the story, it’s amazing that she’s alive.

Copelin displayed a firearm to officers and refused to exit the Jeep.

apparently now the state of florida will be paying for sewage water treatment, garbage disposal, and some other big stuff that the mouse was covering up to now.

that’s some brilliant win

It’s definitely not for everyone. Years ago, I’d read about someone with life-wrecking allergies that intentionally walked barefoot in human feces in a 3rd world nation to get worms. It worked, but is horrifying. I live with my allergies instead.

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) declined to criticize her son with Bible verses after he got his girlfriend pregnant out of wedlock.

In a Thursday podcast, host Dave Rubin asked Boebert about her reaction to becoming a grandmother at the age of 36.

“Obviously, I’m a Christian, [BULLSHIT—JB] and there are standards that we like to uphold, but none of us do it perfectly,” she explained. “One of the biggest things that I look to is ‘him who knows to do right and doesn’t; it’s sin.’”

“And I mean, there’s things all throughout the week that I know is right to do,” she continued. “And sometimes, I don’t do them. And so we can nitpick what the Bible says is right and wrong, but I think just having that heart posture of wanting to serve God and do the right thing is so important.”

She said that because of the pregnancy, her son had given up dreams of attending Universal Technical Institute in Florida [ARE WE SHOCKED BY HIS CHOICE FOLKS?—JB]. Instead, her son planned to take petroleum engineering courses at the community college.

And how long until these officers get new jobs with police departments in other states?

Which reminds of the Pittsburgh Police back in the last century.

There was a guy who climbed a bridge pier downtown, pulled out a small caliber pistol (probably .32 acp) and started shooting randomly. The cops, recognizing that the round wouldn’t travel too far, cordoned off the area until he ran out of ammunition and then talked him down off the bridge.

In another case, a suicidal twentysomething guy climbed a downtown bridge and threatened to jump. The cops figured out who he was and brought his sister and mother down. They talked him down. Everybody hugged and the guy unrestrained, went into the ambulance to be psychiatrically evaluated.

In a third case, a guy climbed on a building on 5th Ave in Oakland and started shooting a pistol. Right at rush hour. The cops cordoned off the area and waited for him to run out of steam or ammunition. He did, but then jumped off the building, landing on 5th Ave and killing himself.

The sentiment I remember was that everybody was pissed at him because he committed suicide. But also that he had so low regard for anybody else that he decided to do it at rush hour and totally screw up city traffic.

No argument. Several Virginia small town police were arrested for Jan 6th participation, iirc.

Although I suspect that in the Ffx County cases, the fired officers may also have some legal liability.
