[Re Idiot Speaker McCarthy’s proposal to cut DHS’ budget by 22%]

So for all the hysterical blabberings Republicans love to spout about “border security” and “out-of-control smuggling”, etc. (all of which they lay, personally at Joe Biden’s and Alejandro Mayorkas’ feet), one of Weaker McCarthy’s “budget proposals” - i.e. blackmail demands for raising the national debt ceiling - is to slash the budget of the agencies charged with patrolling/securing the border(s)??? And risk causing layoffs (or at least adding to the already-huge workload) of those very LEOs they purport to “honor” so much??
SRSLY WTF….???

Well, old Sen. McTurtle is kinda/sorta right about thing: the Supreme Court likely does have “high ethical standards”.

It’s the fact that several of the Justices on that Court seemingly see no personal (or legal) reason to live up to them that’s the problem….

Ah the Tree Of Liberty got more blood to feed on…

Illinois man shoots leaf-blowing neighbor in the head during argument

Ettore Lacchei, 79, allegedly approached William Martys, 59, as he cleaned his yard the evening of April 12 with a leaf blower, and the two men got into an argument before the older man took out a gun and shot his neighbor in the head, reported the Lake & McHenry County Scanner.

“Once again, easy access to firearms has turned a dispute into a deadly crime,” said Lake County state’s attorney Eric Rinehart. “We will support the victims and seek justice in the court rooms.”

Paramedics found Martys lying in the driveway of his Antioch home and pronounced dead at a nearby hospital, and police found a handgun believed to have been used in the killing near Lacchei’s property line.

But for Trump’s chicanery and pardon, Bannon would have been in jail for earlier crimes and not to commit the later crimes against other MAGAidiots who bought into this grift.

Bannon belongs in jail and Trump covered up Bannon’s crimes, because they too would have implicated Trump directly.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was hospitalized after suffering a heart attack on April 26, 2023.
According to the statement issued by the presidency, Erdogan was taken to the hospital in critical condition and received treatment for myocardial infarction, commonly known as a heart attack.

The President’s office also announced that all of Erdogan’s pre-election speeches and public events have been cancelled until May 3rd, two weeks before the election. The announcement has caused uncertainty in the political sphere, as Erdogan’s re-election campaign was already facing significant opposition from other political parties.

A fire chief in her district, which covers parts of the Houston area, told her the department has had to detour 3,200 times since 2019 because of blocked crossings. She and other congressional Democrats introduced the Don’t Block Our Communities Act in early March, but it has not yet gained bipartisan traction. The proposed law would prohibit rail companies from blocking crossings for more than 10 minutes and would allow the rail administration to fine companies for repeated violations.”

Montana Republicans Vote to Stop Their First Trans Colleague from Speaking, Ever

jezebel.com

Montana’s Republican-controlled legislature is punishing the state’s first trans representative for speaking out about proposed anti-trans legislation by refusing to recognize her to speak on any bills moving forward.

On Thursday, State Rep. Zooey Zephyr (D) pointed out she wasn’t being called on at all during a debate about defining sex in state law as not including trans people. “No amount of silencing tactics will deter me from standing up for the rights of the transgender community. This year, I have lost friends to suicide, and I have listened to the heart-wrenching stories of families dealing with suicide attempts, trans youth fleeing the state, and people being attacked on the side of the road—all due to legislation like this,” Zephyr said in a statement. “I will not apologize for speaking with clarity and precision about the harm these bills cause.”

A rules committee decided that the leader of the State House can opt to not recognize individuals without giving an explanation, Zephyr said. “This decision is a direct assault on the principles of our democracy and serves to silence the voice of my community, as well as the 11,000 constituents I represent.”

Judge warns Donald Trump ‘now sailing in harm’s way’ after Eric Trump flouts rape trial rules

rawstory.com

U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan warned Joseph Tacopina, an attorney for Donald Trump, that his client was in “harm’s way” after Eric Trump tweeted about E. Jean Carroll’s rape allegations despite instructions from the judge.

During a Wednesday court hearing in New York City, Kaplan scolded the former president after he claimed on social media that the trial was a “scam.”

The judge observed Trump was “tampering with a new source of potential liability” and said Tacopina should advise his client not to speak about the trial on social media.

Following a lunch break, attorneys for Carroll complained that Eric Trump had posted complaints about the case on Wednesday despite the judge’s warning.

Absolutely true. Put him in jail now or he will prove he has absolute immunity. After all, there are so many surrogates he can use to spread his lies and attacks. If he isn’t jailed, you will confirm his position, like most of the GOP, as being above the law.

One of the issues I see with computers in general is that interfaces are not fully standardized. So the knowledge of one interface does not always transfer to another.

I would suspect that in a busy environment, like driving in heavy traffic, this could add more complexity. And the risk of really bad results is increased.

It seems to me that over the past century, the manual controls on cars have been slowly converging towards a more uniform standard. This makes them much easier to use. Particularly in a busy/distracting environment.

Lol. Dealbreaker.

Tucker Carlson’s influence apparently goes beyond Republican politics, and into Rupert Murdoch’s love life.

The Fox News media mogul recently got engaged to Ann Lesley Smith only to break things off less than three weeks later.

Sources initially told Vanity Fair that the relationship soured because of Smith’s outspoken evangelical views, but a new story by the publication provides some delicious details.

Apparently her “outspoken evangelical views” extended toward Carlson, Fox News’ most popular host, a source told Vanity Fair.

“She said Tucker Carlson is a messenger from God, and he said nope,” the source said.

This silencing of representatives is just a mere taste of what Republicans have in store for democracy should they gain the White House at any point in our future.

Yep. Doesn’t matter what vile provisions are in any legislation or how Republicans trample over democracy and voting rights; the GOP voters are fine with that because they are all racist, misogynist, homophobes, and pro-Putin. They do not want us to spend a cent protecting democracies elsewhere — they will blather about how the money should be spent here — and spend on what? Why more tax cuts for the wealthy!

Oh yeah! They would have flown under the radar as unknown-outside-of-Tennessee bumpkins before but not no more. I’m giving the Speaker a couple weeks at best before he’s gone. The feds are investigating him due to PopularInfo’s reporting for bulking the taxpayers for travel and per diem and living where he doesn’t represent (against TN law), something that never would have happened had they not pulled their stunt.

The sex with an intern guy just resigned (not sure if it’s due to the sun shining on their little stunt or not) but these guys made the big time and being republicans, they’re crooks, so yeah, they are. And it’s fucking glorious.

You would be correct, and that’s why this is such a big deal. Suddenly having to switch it over to be manually paid after the fact is a big logistical headache, especially with needing to ensure at least 60% of members get switched over immediately or the union gets decertified. And you know full well the state won’t recertify any union that has been decertified, under any circumstances.
