Before the Supreme Court ruled against forced prayer in public schools I remember a very bitter school board election in my town fought on which version of the Lord’s Prayer kids were to recite. Catholics vs. Protestants really got nasty in that election, we Jews stayed on the sidelines. The Catholics got a majority of seats on the school board and Protestants protested. Me? I just mouthed the words…

So it’s over? Prigozhin realized he didn’t have sufficient resources? Or this was all a plot to lull the Ukrainians into a trap? A ploy to discover which forces were not loyal to Putin? Very suspicious.

Take a look at my post #18. Prigozhin seems to have backed off for now, pending what’s to be done about Shoigu and Gerasimov. He might not have wanted to go all the way, realizing that doing so could very well ignite an outright civil war.

But by faltering at the crucial moment, I believe Prigozhin has sealed his fate.

There was no trap to lure the Ukrainians into, so no. Ukraine made significant advances in the last day that Russia won’t be able to get back easily even if everything went back to “normal” somehow immediately. Prigozhin hasn’t surrendered, and likely wants Shoigu’s and Gerasimov’s heads quite literally, so now there’s apparently a halt.

John Eastman’s possible disbarment should be the least of his worries as indictments loom: legal expert

Make it so!

rawstory.com

With attorney John Eastman currently facing disbarment for his efforts to help Donald Trump overturn the 2020 presidential election, one legal expert suggested his loss of livelihood pales in comparison to the jail time he could face if he is indicted on state and federal charges.

In a column for Salon, Gregg Barak, the author of “Criminology on Trump,” wrote that Eastman’s future looks bleak with disbarment a very real possibility to be followed by criminal charges.

According to the professor of criminology and criminal justice at Eastern Michigan University, “Eastman’s plot to subvert the 2020 election and defraud millions of American voters will almost certainly be central to the next two indictments facing Trump, those being conspiracy charges likely to be filed this summer by prosecutor Fani Willis in Georgia and special counsel Jack Smith in Washington, D.C.”

As he explained, the case for disbarment looks solid and Eastman has himself to blame and “must now face the consequences of his actions,” with California Bar Court with prosecutor Duncan Carling arguing that Trump-aligned attorney was “…the architect of a legal strategy aimed at keeping former President Donald Trump in power, [who had] concocted a baseless theory and made false claims of fraud in an attempt to overturn the 2020 election.”

A moment of silence has existed in Oklahoma since this guy was in high school, and he was a teacher before he became Superintendent. He is a conservative, therefore he lies.

Well, if the bulk of Wagner’s forces are transferred to Africa and out of Russia and Ukraine, the bigger question is what this means for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Wagner is pretty much the best fighting force that the Russians are currently deploying in the Ukrainian theater.

In the context of the MOD (read: Shoigu and/or Gerasimov) demanding Wagner sign over command to them, which would have ended his usefulness to Putin and also stripped him of any significant political relevance to the Russian people, this is probably the best scenario he could have worked out. He retains command of his PMC, he gets them out of the active war zone, and his biggest political rivals get fucked. The reality that it leaves Putin with an increasingly useless Army is the least of his concerns.

Good thing it wasn’t a pipeline.

Train derails into Montana’s Yellowstone River (two hours ago with photograph of the collapsed bridge and tank cars in the river from FOX Business)

The bridge collapsed last night.

A train derailment was reported Saturday in Montana near Columbus.

The train reportedly went off its rails and into the Yellowstone River amid a bridge collapse, according to local outlets.

“I’m monitoring the train derailment in Stillwater County, and the state is standing by to support as Montana Rail Link and county officials assess their needs,” Montana Gov. Greg Gianforte wrote on social media Saturday just before noon.

And if Putin has largely caved to Prigohzin’s demands (of course, that remains to be seen regardless of what the rumor mill says) what message does that send the oligarchs?

Putin has been weakened by this event and he’s no longer looking like the shirtless, horse-riding strongman of yore.

Now he looks like a weak and badly frightened pensioner, (possibly) willing to accede to demands under the threat of force.

Africa is where all the money is for Wagner. They are quite literally plundering Mali, Central African Republic, DR Congo, Sudan, and others by keeping the crooked leaders in power.

Honestly, only possible idea I can come up with at this point would be for Vlad to throw the entire blame for the war (from starting it to the war crimes) on Shogiu and Gerasimov, tell the people that their mishandling of the war (in particular Bakhmut) pushed Wagner to the point that they felt threatening civil war was their only way of being heard, and have them jailed while he tries to get Zelensky to agree to a return to status quo antebellum.

Well, if Putin ever wanted an ‘out’ this is the best he’s gonna get.

And maybe that is what he arranged with Prigozhin. Have others blamed for the war and fired. The question is what peace agreement can be arranged with Ukraine. And Ukraine is not likely to be very agreeable if Crimea remains in Russian hands.

At this point? I highly doubt it. If anything, the events of the last 24 hours are likely to embolden Zelensky to tell Putin that it’s all or nothing, either a full withdrawal from the whole of Ukraine or the fighting continues until they secure such. That a return to the pre-war situation is simply not an option anymore.

There is no law or regulation preventing people praying in school

Children can pray in schools, and in point of fact, Evangelicals have a day every year called “See You At the Pole” where they go out and pray at the school flagpole. Which of course neatly marries Christianity with American nationalism.

However, the key thing here is that children should not be led in prayers by teachers, that’s where the line is. Which is why I tend to completely LOSE MY SHIT whenever I hear about people trying to implement organized prayer or moments of silence because I know from personal experience what happens. It’s the camel’s nose under the tent. I got called a “pig” by my 2nd grade teacher on my first day in class because I didn’t pray before I took out my sandwich and chomped a bite. “We are not pigs, we pray before we eat.” I don’t even know if Mrs. Gaede is still alive (this was 1968) but she didn’t stay at the school for the remaining four years I did. And believe me that helped set me up for some serious shit from my classmates.

/sorry not sorry to rant and WHY YES my coreligionists annoy the FUCK out of me when they do this shiz.

Not an atheist, but dammit, I really do think people should be free to live their lives without religious authorities breathing down our necks. Because I KNOW that when a particular religion gets its hands on power, that it absolutely does impinge on everyone else in ways large and small. Things like, “we can’t have X on Monday night, because it’s Y religion’s special family night.” Or schools getting weird about girls showing their “porn shoulders.”

‘I miss those days!’: Lauren Boebert buried for claiming world conflicts didn’t exist under Trump

rawstory.com

U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert is being criticized for her hot take on the Russian drama.

Boebert actually took the position on Saturday that these types of international conflicts, like the one between Vladimir Putin and a paramilitary group, didn’t exist under former president Donald Trump.

“I still remember when President Trump was the leader of the free world and you didn’t have wild conflicts all over the world going on constantly,” Boebert tweeted Saturday.

She then added: “How I miss those days! It’s time to bring leadership back!”

Boebert was excessively mocked in the comments on her own Twitter post.

“It’s hard to believe she’s a congresswoman,” one verified Twitter user wrote in response to the unsubstantiated tweet.

Another wrote, “I remember when we had presidents that didn’t have multiple felony charges pending and didn’t call everyone a loser that he disagreed with. Ahh the good ol days.”

Recipe Time!

This is the the dish that inspired Paul Simon’s song when he saw it on a menu at a NY Chinese restaurant. The next time you hear Mother and Child Reunion you will think about this recipe too.

Mother & Child Reunion—CHICKEN AND CORN EGG DROP SOUP

1 whole chicken or 4 chicken quarters cut up
1 carrot, cut up into large chunks
1 stalk celery, cut up into large chunks
1 onion, cut into quarters
1 teaspoon black peppercorns
1 teaspoon kosher salt
2 tablespoon soy sauce
1 tablespoon Mirin
1 cup canned corn
1 cup canned cream corn
2 tablespoon corn starch dissolved in 1/4 cup water
2 eggs
6 scallions, chopped
1 teaspoon sesame oil (optional)
1/2 teaspoon sriracha (optional)
3 cup cooked rice

Place chicken, carrot, celery, onion, peppercorns and salt in a large pot. Cover with water. Simmer fro 1 hour. Remove the chicken and take the chicken off the bones, cover and set aside in fridge for later use. Put the bones back in the soup pot and simmer for at least another 2 hours.

Strain soup and put the stock back in the clean pot. (if desired stock can go in the fridge at this point for future use)

Bring stock up to a boil and add soy sauce, mirin, and both cans of corn. Add cornstarch mixture and allow to boil for a few minutes to thicken. Turn off the heat and stream the eggs in slowly while stirring the pot with a fork in an S like motion.

Once all eggs have been stirred in add the chicken back in and you are ready to serve.

Place a spoon full of rice in a bowl. Pour soup with chicken over top. Sprinkle on scallions and then drizzle a drop of sesame oil and sriracha if desired.

Well, Bobo Gun Girl is semi/half right about one thing: if the Russian invasion of Ukraine had happened on Trump’s watch, the “conflict” would have played out quite differently: King Orangeanus would have likely facilitated Putin’s invasion (probably by loudmouthed tweeting at odd hours), then discouraged, rather than supported Ukrainian resistance - with generous mentions of Joe/Hunter Biden and Burisma thrown in just for fun - and probably saved his main bile for those who would argue against his receiving the Nobel Peace Prize for his “efforts”…..

Sadly there are companies like NightCafe which still prefer Twitter for social outreach.

So NightCafe gives freebie credits for Twitter posting.

And various Youtube channels I follow also use Twitter.

So it’s hard for me to just leave completely.

I tried pushing Spoutible for a while, but that site has not gained traction.

I refuse to put any more effort into Meta outlets, though Instagram is clearly the go-to for those who are not young and want to be on Tik-Tok.

Reddit is hell on Earth, surpassed in damnable content now by Twitter for sure, but Reddit is still a no-go or me.

Twitch and similar outlets tend to be very niche in topics.

“Lucky to be alive”: Phoenix man says his SUV was shot at random on highway (yesterday)

A Phoenix man said his rental SUV was shot at random around 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the Greenway offramp northbound on state Route 51. Ken Maki pointed to what he believed were bullet holes in the Jeep with an entry point in the driver-side back window, markings on the front seat headrest and an exit point on the passenger side window. Phoenix Police confirm they went to Maki’s home and photographed damage to the vehicle, but no shell casing has been found from the alleged shooting. “Eighteen inches to the left it would have been my head and not the window,” said Maki. “Pretty lucky to be alive. This is insane, can’t believe this happened.”

Maki said the traffic was lighter than usual and he did not get into a road rage situation. He also said it could not have been targeted since he was not driving his truck and instead in a rental SUV, leaving him perplexed as to the motive of the crime. “Why? What were you thinking?” asked Maki. “I hope this a single incident and it doesn’t keep happening.”

over the course of the pond’s short life we’ve tried three or four different ways to get water out - to lower the level.

electric sump - power cords. wrong size discharge hose, so it took forever

then we swapped for a bigger hose and now it’s the super fastest. but power cord, and hoses etc…

we plumbed a diverter into the filter tower that drained into the jasmine raised bed. it was a long pipe with holes so it dripped and was pretty slow. plus we eventually put a sprinker head in that bed so we haven’t used the diverter in a long time.

these all require monitoring. turning on and off lest you drain too much, etc.

we eventually fell upon the idea of a siphon drain and it works great.
priming takes 10 seconds.
it’ll drain down to the top of the first shelf, then, you know, stop. because physics.
no moving parts, no electricity, no monitoring.

with all the rain lately, it’s been getting almost a daily workout

The magnetic vests only work if magnets are installed on the carriers, usually only the bunny slope chair, not on the rest of the mountain. And we’re talking about epileptics, a foot rest or safety bar may not be enough to keep them from falling out of the chair.

Ford Explorer recall prompts Transportation Department investigation

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is investigating a Ford Motor Co. recall of more than a quarter-million Explorer SUVs in the U.S. after receiving complaints about repairs intended to prevent the vehicles from unexpectedly rolling away even while placed in park.

The problem, ascribed to fractures of a rear axle mounting bolt that could lead the drive shaft to disconnect, was addressed by a Ford software update designed to apply the electronic parking brake if the drive shaft failed, the agency said. But according to two complaints from vehicle owners, their SUVs behaved erratically following the repair.

In one of those cases, the Explorer would reportedly slam to a complete stop at speeds of up to 30 or 40 miles per hour. In the other, it would reportedly lurch into motion while the driver was attempting to disengage the electronic brake. No injuries were reported in these cases, although the first driver reported striking a utility pole when the Explorer started rolling downhill following an abrupt stop, seemingly because the drivetrain was disengaged.

The original recall covered certain 2020 through 2022 Explorers with 2.3-liter engines, as well as 3-liter and 3.3-liter hybrids, and the 3-liter ST. Also included were 2020 and 2021 Explorer Police hybrids and those with 3.3-liter gas engines. Both of the reported incidents involved 2021 Explorers.

A Ford representative said the company is working with the NHTSA on the matter.

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - The Wilmington Police Department announced on Tuesday, June 20, that a man who worked at several local hotels has been arrested and charged with numerous financial crimes.

According to the release, 37-year-old Kevin Jamar Wright allegedly used his position to “obtain access to hotel guests’ credit card information.”

Police say the incidents took place while Wright was employed between February and May of 2023.

WECT has reached out to police to learn about the hotels that Wright worked at, but they have not provided that information so far.

Wright is being held at the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center under a $3,900,000 bond and has been charged with:

66 counts of financial card fraud
71 counts of identity theft
Obtaining property by false pretense

Wright was arrested in Durham in the past for charges such as using false pretenses to obtain property and financial transaction card forgery. Those charges happened between the years 2012 and 2016.

Kendra Licari was sentenced to a minimum of 19 months in jail on April 26 for an incident that happened last January.

In January of last year, two sets of parents went to local police to file a report about their 14-year-old children being harassed via social media and texting. After initial searches didn’t find anything, police were able to locate Licari by her phone number which was attached to the social media sites.

Licari was arrested last year in December, where she was arraigned on criminal charges.

She pleaded guilty to two counts of stalking a minor. In exchange for her plea, the other charges against her were dismissed.

Law & Crime reported last year when she was arrested she used a VPN to harass her daughter and her boyfriend by imitating the daughter’s friends. She was originally charged with two counts of stalking a minor, two counts of using a computer to commit a crime, and one count of obstruction of justice.

Her mother was a basketball coach at her daughter’s school. When her daughter went to her mother for help, the mother reported it to the school. The school was unable to do anything but turned the case over to the FBI, which traced back through the VPNs that it was her mother cyberstalking her and her boyfriend.

Anything to put Trump back in the White House just what Putin wants…

Some people think of themselves as lefties because they know the Republicans are wrong, but since the Democrats are closer to what they need, they are MORE disappointed when the Democrats don’t do what they want, and that’s what they act on. To them the fact that their work will benefit the Republicans is secondary to the need to punish the Democrats. They want the Democrats to lose so badly, they aren’t thinking about the winner.

‘No one in government looked like me’: Democrat Ted Lieu slams Nikki Haley’s tone-deaf tweet

rawstory.com

Democratic Representative Ted Lieu issued a take down Saturday of Nikki Haley’s tweet attempting to revise U.S. history.

Arguably the most effective reply came from Lieu.

“Dear @NikkiHaley: I remember growing up, when folks called me Chink. Threw eggs at our house. Slashed our tires. Called the police on us because they thought Asians like us were stealing wild ducks for food,” the Congressman wrote. “And no one in government looked like me or you. Life sure was simple.”

Rare bird sighting for piston engine enthusiasts. About ten minutes ago I saw what appeared to be a Lockheed constellation fly overhead—the thrum of four large engines attracted my notice. Laverne, California, about 3,000 ft. AGL, on a northwest heading. Pretty sure it wasn’t a B-24, the verticals at the ends of the horizontal stab were too small, and I thought I caught a glimpse of the center VS. Serendipitous!

Was it this one?

There are only two airworthy Constellations in the world. This one, the Breitling Super-Constellation, is based in Basel Switzerland.
The other one belongs to the Historical Aircraft Association and is based in Australia. Of course, either one could reach any point in the world in about 48 hours. The Australian aircraft is painted in red and white Qantas colors and has wingtip fuel tanks while the Swiss one does not.

Here’s my wall fish — I didn’t make it, though. Bought it in Guyana, it’s a mahogany Arapaima one of the largest fresh water fish in the world.

It’s hanging over my salt water aquarium.

Today Fox is ‘raising the possibility’ that the U.S. is behind Prigozhin, so look for that talking point to spread to your crazy nephews and uncles.

So once again, Biden who according to Fox News can’t tie his own shoes anymore because he’s too old and would break his hip doing so now has the nerves of steel and mental super intelligence to organize a violent overthrow of a nuclear equipped enemy state while keeping his main job as worldwide mafia kingpin and Trump personal persecutor.

What a man. A strong strong man.

I doubt it. Unfortunately, it went directly overhead in a slightly hazy sky, so I mostly saw the aluminum underside. No tip tanks. There were a couple of intact Connie’s at Chino airport for many years—about fifteen miles away from me. It’s possible they got one of those airworthy again. I remember when one of them arrived, I think back in the late eighties. It made the local news due to an ill advised ferry flight—reported as ‘two turning, one dead, one smoking on final approach.’
