The new(ish) macOS ability to copy text from images is amazingly good! I just used it to grab the text of that recipe and it was letter perfect, even the script title. Just needed a few extra linefeeds to break up paragraphs.

Gomer’s Banana Bread Pyle
1 cup butter or oil
2 cups sugar
4 eggs, beaten well
6 to 7 bananas, mashed
2½ cups sifted all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking soda
½ cup chopped macadamia nuts

Grease 2 large loaf pans or 5 small ones.

Cream the butter with the sugar. Add the eggs and beat well. Add the mashed bananas, stirring to blend. In a separate bowl sift together the dry ingredients. Fold the dry ingredients into the batter, mixing well. Add the macadamia nuts. Pour the batter into the pans. Bake in a 350° oven for 50 to 60 minutes, or until done.

For muffins, fill 12 muffin cups ¾ full and bake in a 350° oven for 35 to 45 minutes.
Makes 2 large loaves, 5 small loaves, or 12 large muffins.

—Jim Nabors (Gomer Pyle)

I agree with this except for the caveat that because of the Electoral College it doesn’t actually matter what the majority of Americans want. I hate to be a downer on Christmas but they absolutely are planning to use violence on Election Day to disrupt voting in large cities in Swing States and we just can’t allow ourselves to think the sheer malignancy and bad faith of that strategy means it can’t prevail.

re: #32 Markm1960

100%

I keep trying to say that contesting the results was the 2020 game plan, and was plausible because he was President and had all the levers of power available to the Office of the Presidency. Threatening Secretaries of State and county elections officials with the DOJ, delaying the National Guard response when your supporters riot on Jan 6th, that shit is only really available to an incumbent. That isn’t going to be the game plan next time, it’s all going to go down on Election Day and they’re just going to try and keep as many people as possible from voting in certain select cities. It’s going to be extremely focused violence and we need to wrap our heads around that now because he’s been talking about it openly.

PS: the actual president

The Christmas story is at the heart of the Christian faith, but the values of hope, love, peace, and joy are universal.

They speak to all of us as human beings who are here on this Earth to care for one another, to look out for one another, to love one another.

These values are always important, and we see them in action in communities throughout our country.

All across America, we see stories of revival and renewal, hope and optimism. And pride. Pride in your work, in your family, in your town. Pride in this nation.

My hope this Christmas season is that we take a few moments of quiet reflection. To really look at each other, not as Democrats or Republicans, but as who we really are: Fellow Americans. Fellow human beings worthy of being treated with dignity and respect.

We’re truly blessed to live in this nation. And I truly hope we take the time to look out for one another…

Jill and I wish you and your family peace, joy, health, and happiness this season.

From the Biden family to yours, Merry Christmas and happy holidays!

Joe Biden
President of the United States

Biden spent Christmas morning calling military units to thank them for their service.

Trump spent the morning in virtually unintelligible ranting about how badly the world has treated him. “Like nobody has ever seen before.”

These are “mini-loaves”. Two of them are already spoken for. I have a couple of pounds of both Hazel nuts and pecans that I going to use to make “butter”. Here’s a sneak peek of the loaves in the oven.

ATTENTION!
URGENT COMMUNIQUE FROM GRINCH AND SCROOGE SUPREME WORLD HEADQUARTERS
From: Cthulhu
Subject: “war on Christmas”
It is my sad duty to report that our efforts to intercept the “Red Elf” Santa Claus and his propaganda sleigh have once again been frustrated by the illegal, unconstitutional intervention of NORAD, a federally funded agency that has no business facilitating the religiously motivated bribery of children.
The news is equally bleak elsewhere. On the commerce front, even the grinchiest of business enterprises, Walmart, has closed for the day. The only bright spot is that the Salvation Army’s infantry, the notorious “bell ringers,” have finally been forced to retreat back to their lairs with loot in hand.
Lord Cthulhu wishes you a happy and nutritious solstice and renews Its standing invitation to the daily banquet at our headquarters under the Greenland icecap.

Well that’s as disgusting as the hospital food I remember when I lost 15 lbs. while in hospital in 2020 for a week.

Personally I think The Sound of Music is closer to being a Christmas Movie than Die Hard.

The whole point of the robbery plot was what would happen on Christmas night:

“It’s Christmas, Charlie. It’s a time of miracles.”
