I picked up a decarboxylator, and tested it for the first time today.
After pouring the infused butter into a container, I wiped the remains up with a piece of bread and ate it. It’s very effective.

Prince Harry Named in Blockbuster Diddy Sex Trafficking Lawsuit

Diddy used his friendship with well-known figures like Harry—who is not accused of wrongdoing—to draw people into his sex party ring, it is alleged.

Prince Harry’s party days with Sean “Diddy” Combs could be coming back to haunt him after it emerged that he was named in court documents filed against the rapper, who is facing a litany of shocking sexual assault allegations in a case being brought by one of his former producers, Rodney Jones.

While it can be argued it is deeply unfair for Harry to be singled out by name when he has done nothing wrong and others are not named, his naming in the suit exposes the particular need for members of the British royal family to be ultra-cautious about whom they associate with and under what conditions.

A group of rich Christian Nationalists paid $60 million to erect a fake history museum near Independence Hall in Philadelphia. After three years of failure, it’s closing. An interesting counterpoint to Trump’s doubling down on Christian nationalism lately.

Gee, Elmo, is your pet cartoonist, Dox von Plano, really not aware that foreign sailors have been coming and going from US ports literally every day since before there was a US? Not to mention that the ship was almost certainly under the control of a harbor pilot. By the nature of the job, the latter would have to be a long time resident of, or commuter to, Baltimore.

My father’s boss for many years was a German POW “captured” in Duluth MN. The man was sent to the POW camp in Bismarck ND. He was given the option to return to Germany after the war but he opted to stay in Bismarck.

re: #18 🐈 Crush White Christian Nationalism 🐈

tangentially related:

Utah coach Lynne Roberts said her team experienced a series of racial hate crimes last week after arriving at its first NCAA tournament hotel and was forced to change hotels for safety concerns.

Roberts didn’t go into detail but said Monday there were several incidents that happened last Thursday night after the team arrived in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, which is located about 30 miles away from Spokane, Washington, where the Utes were scheduled to play in the tournament’s opening weekend.

ksl.com reported early Tuesday that the N-word was yelled at members of the Utah basketball team, along with other members of the traveling party — including cheerleaders and the school band — on multiple occasions as they were walking to and from a restaurant near their hotel in Coeur d’Alene.

That this happened in Coeur d’Alene is probably the least shocking bit of the story. Some tough guy rolled by in a truck with a confederate flag and yelled racial slurs. As many as three teams have relocated.

re: #316 Nerdy Fish

They’re thinking of Pirates of the Caribbean, where they did that neat maneuver dropping the anchor to stop the ship and turn on a dime. Because real life is just like the movies, you know.///

That’s based on a genuine age-of-sail technique called club hauling. It really does work…

…if your ship displaces hundreds of tons, not tens of thousands.

It was a risky manoeuvre, requiring a high degree of skill, and it would most likely result in the loss of the anchor, so it would only be entertained in dire emergency.

And it seems that it hit the support with the bow at an angle so that the artificial island the support stood on couldn’t take the brunt of the impact, but the support took part of it, collapsing, leading to a cascading failure of the cantilever portion of the bridge.
And the containers may be loaded, just not with very dense stuffs.
And yeah, sometimes you have dumb luck in disasters like this, like the Almö Bridge Disaster which also happened in the middle of the night… And the presence of mind of a truck driver to block the road on one side, probably saved lives.

True about the Almö Bridge disaster: but it was unfortunate that eight (?) drivers didn’t see the bridge out (it was a foggy night), and drove off it before the road on the other side was closed.

re: #59 Dave In Austin

re: #51 Teukka

I heard they were empty, but then again, I might be wrong. In the rush to get the story out details are sketchy at times. I can’t see the depth markings. The red paint below the water line is called anti fouling paint that inhibits algae and barnacles. And you can see it, so it was riding higher.
Depth markers I cannot see.
You can see where the pier just tore out a chunk of 1/2 to 3/4 steel plating.
I grew up in Philly not all that far from the Delaware and witnessed many a ocean faring ship maneuver under the Tacony Palmyra bridge, a drawbridge, which opened to let ships pass underneath. KYW radio would announce bridge openings for traffic. Huge marine terminal at the end of Allegheny Ave, and Shackamaxon piers down by where the Olympia sits. All gone. All container piers down by Marcus Hook on up to the Philly Airport.

And the truck driver who blocked the road came from the mainland side, but for obvious reasons, the bridge (and it’s successor) being the only road link to the island, it took 40 minutes to get people to the Tjörn (island) side of the bridge to close things down.

I’m no fan of Republicans generally, but this (plus the shenanigans with the GOP Maricopa County Supervisors) are basically proving to one and all how fucking NUTS people like Kari Lake are. Also, I feel for the families, especially for their kids, who don’t have a *clue* as to what’s going on.

One should never expect corporations to be moral leaders, especially for-profit corporations.

Perhaps a non-profit might try to take moral high grounds, but a for-profit company only cares about one thing: profits.

We’re governed by a class of people that on one hand imagine themselves loftily above ideology but on the other will always have space in their symposium for every stripe of reaction that doesn’t wound their heels.

Reactionaries are allowed into the marketplace of ideas because whatever else they’re going to do to plebs, they’ll let the marketplace be a marketplace…even if only a smaller one.

Matt Schlapp’s sexual assault accuser abruptly drops lawsuit: ‘Complete misunderstanding’

alternet.org

The Republican staffer who alleged he was sexually assaulted by GOP mega-lobbyist and American Conservative Union director Matt Schlapp has abruptly withdrawn his lawsuit and retracted his allegations.

According to The New York Times, Carlton Huffman issued a statement saying, “The claims made in my lawsuits were the result of a complete misunderstanding, and I regret that the lawsuit caused pain to the Schlapp family. The Schlapps have advised that the statements made about me were the result of a misunderstanding, which was regrettable. Neither the Schlapps nor the ACU paid me anything to dismiss my claims against them.”

Sure. Tell us another lie, Carlton!

NBCUniversal News Group Chairman Cesar Conde on Tuesday sent company employees a memo confirming the decision:

There is no doubt that the last several days have been difficult for the News Group. After listening to the legitimate concerns of many of you, I have decided that Ronna McDaniel will not be an NBC News contributor.
No organization, particularly a newsroom, can succeed unless it is cohesive and aligned. Over the last few days, it has become clear that this appointment undermines that goal.

I want to personally apologize to our team members who felt we let them down. While this was a collective recommendation by some members of our leadership team, I approved it and take full responsibility for it.

Our initial decision was made because of our deep commitment to presenting our audiences with a widely diverse set of viewpoints and experiences, particularly during these consequential times. We continue to be committed to the principle that we must have diverse viewpoints on our programs, and to that end, we will redouble our efforts to seek voices that represent different parts of the political spectrum.

Presenting a diverse set of viewpoints DOES NOT imply viewpoints of those who advocate the overthrow of the United States Government, for fuck’s sake, and the imposition of a dictatorship! It is truly jaw-droppingly stupid that this needs to be demonstrated to you. You claim to take responsibility for the decision to hire this woman, raising a shitstorm of biblical proportions, yes? Well, the only honorable way out of this to redeem yourself is to commit seppuku. Since you don’t have the fortitude for that, then, the alternative is to resign, immediately!

And now Comer Pyle and Gym Shorts send a letter begging for $$$$

Going after the “Biden Crime Family” is costing House Oversight Chair James Comer (R-KY) and his family dearly — so he’s passing around a figurative collection plate in the form of an email to raise support.

“I ask you to take the time to read this email in its entirety,” writes Comer, who along with Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan (R-OH), have been spearheading an impeachment inquiry hinged on the theory that Biden laundered international bribes through his son Hunter’s foreign business dealings.

The Washington Post’s columnist Philip Bump did read it, then knocked Comer for its “broad strokes” to claim “he’s fighting the good fight against nefarious foes and suffering damage that can only be treated with the soothing balm of cash.”

“None of that is true, including the part about the ‘group’ of ‘confidants’,” he wrote.

Bump states Comer merely “chaired a hearing involving two people who had worked briefly with members of Biden’s family.”

And yet, Comer’s taking victory laps.

“At any other time in history,” his email adds, “that would have been the final nail in the coffin of the Biden Crime Family’s reign of corruption.”

Again, Bump injects sobriety: “If what he wrote had been true, perhaps,” he writes. “But it wasn’t.”

Standard pregnancy care is now dangerously disrupted in Louisiana, report reveals

Instead of inducing when the water breaks beore viability, doctors are perfoming C-sections! Major surgery that changes woman’s lives so that they cannot be charged with an abortion. Or many doctors not seeing women until after they are 12 weeks pregnant, since most spontaneous miscarriages occur before that time and the doctors do not want to be investigated. And, doctors are havng to get approval from non-medical boards to perform normal mdical care for women.

So now women get degraded healthcare, even for those wanting to have children. Tat is obviously the plan.

re: #103 Charles

The way most corporations are set up, it’s actually required by law.

In the word of Aaron Sorkin, spoken by Will McAvoy on The Newsroom:

We took a dive for the ratings. In the infancy of mass communications, the Columbus and Magellan of broadcast journalism, William Paley and David Sarnoff, went down to Washington to cut a deal with Congress.

Congress would allow the fledgling networks free use of taxpayer-owned airwaves in exchange for one public service. That public service would be one hour of air time set aside every night for informational broadcasting, or what we now call the evening news.

Congress, unable to anticipate the enormous capacity television would have to deliver consumers to advertisers, failed to include in its deal the one requirement that would have changed our national discourse immeasurably for the better.
Congress forgot to add that under no circumstances could there be paid advertising during informational broadcasting. They forgot to say that taxpayers will give you the airwaves for free and for 23 hours a day you should make a profit, but for one hour a night you work for us.

And now those network newscasts, anchored through history by honest-to-God newsmen…— Now they have to compete with the likes of me. A cable anchor who’s in the exact same business as the producers of Jersey Shore…

It might come as a surprise to you that some of history’s greatest American journalists are working right now…
But these voices are a small minority now and they don’t stand a chance against the circus when the circus comes to town.

GameStop was actually a really savvy move. My hat’s off to the WSB crowd. For whatever reason a hedge fund was short GameStop for an absurd amount, expecting the stock to go to 0. GameStop was hurting, but it wasn’t in danger of going out of business. They were sitting on close to a billion in cash and had other assets.
Between share buybacks and the chewy guy buying up a bunch of shares, the hedge fund was short more shares than were available to cover. A massive short squeeze ensued. It was obvious in retrospect; props to the folks who saw it ahead of time.

Folks up in Minnesota and points surrounding, your suffering is seen. Even by us folks down where the Southern breezes do blow.

(Granted that the Southern breezes where I am are still too fricken’ cold. But not like what you folks are enduring.)

Wapo Gift Link: Record snow falls in Minneapolis after historically warm winter

Winter in the Twin Cities was shaping up to be a cakewalk. By the time winter ended on the morning of March 20, Minneapolis had only seen 14.3 inches of snow — the second least by that point in the season on record. It had also been Minneapolis’s warmest winter on record. Then Old Man Winter waltzed in at the last minute.

The city saw 8.2 inches of snow on Sunday, a record for the date and the biggest snowstorm of the winter (and technically not even occurring during the winter at all). The sudden snows plastered area roadways, and two people died among hundreds of car crashes in Minnesota, according to CBS News.

After precipitation changed to rain in the Twin Cities on Monday, it turned back to snow on Tuesday, with wind gusts over 30 mph reducing visibility and “multiple accidents,” according to the National Weather Service. The forecast for 2 to 4 new inches of snow and gusty winds prompted a winter weather advisory until 4 p.m. Tuesday.

In the wake of Louisiana’s abortion ban, pregnant women have been given risky, unnecessary surgeries, denied swift treatment for miscarriages and ectopic pregnancies, and forced to wait until their life is at risk before getting an abortion, according to a new report first made available to NPR.

It found doctors are using extreme caution to avoid even the appearance of providing an abortion procedure.

Brought to you by assholes who have the gall to call themselves PRO life.

No tap-outs. No edits, No wiggles out of any argument. Just let the logical fallacies and pure unadulterated nonsense fly from both.

As Jeffrey Clark, ex-US Department of Justice official and Donald Trump co-defendant in the Georgia 2020 election interference case faces the possibility of losing his law license, according to Politico, new details regarding Clark’s role in Trump’s ploy to overturn the election came to light Tuesday.

Per Politico, During Clark’s March 26 disbarment hearing in Washington, DC, former Trump Deputy White House counsel Pat Philbin gave “his first public testimony about the chaotic final days of the Trump presidency since” leaving his post in 2021.

“I believe that he felt that he essentially had a duty,” Philbin said, according to the report, of his longtime colleague. “I think Jeff’s view was that there was a real crisis in the country and that he was being given an opportunity to do something about it.”

The former Trump White House counsel, according to Politico, “described Clark as wildly misinformed about claims of election fraud — countenancing a theory about ‘smart thermostats’ being used to manipulate voting machines — and not sufficiently cognizant of the havoc it would wreak on the country if his plan succeeded. But he said Clark seemed ‘100 percent sincere’ in his beliefs.’”

Furthermore, the report notes that “when Philbin warned Clark that there would be riots in every major American city if Trump reversed the outcome of the election, Clark responded, ‘Well, Pat, that’s what the Insurrection Act is for,’ Philbin recalled.”

“I tried to explain to him that it was a bad idea for multiple reasons,” Philbin emphasized in his testimony. “He would be starting down a path of assured failure … If by some miracle somehow, it worked, there’d be riots in every major city in the country and it was not an outcome the country would accept.”

I was there today. Had to *really* look for what I was looking for, wood pellets for the pellet stove. It keeps us warm at night.

They’re in the middle of swapping winter stuff up front to summer stuff up front. The pellets were *way in the back* of the outdoor part of the store, getting snowed on. The 40 lb. bags were discounted, I got 640 lbs. of wood pellets for a hundred bucks.

This is why I keep saying that the Republican Party will die with Trump. When Trump dies, the whole party has spent years rebuilding itself to be the Party of Trump. They will try to carry on in his name, promoting their hateful agenda as the only way to “save America,” but without the populist appeal of their cult leader, they will splinter into factions that will eat each other alive.

The only crisis was that Trump refused to accept that he had lost and has never accepted that fact. That was the crisis which led directly to the deadly January 6th attacks in the Capital. Tbh, Clark and company are traitors. Their actions are inexcusable and they deserve to suffer severe consequences for the turmoil they created.

I was born in Boise and spent almost half of my life around the Idaho/Washington border while living in Spokane. Idaho is pretty much nothing but racists and they are fucking proud of it enough to let everyone in earshot know. Growing up there the word was that you got out of Idaho before sunset if you weren’t white and I doubt that it has changed.

Whoever put them up in Idaho needs to be brought up to speed about how shitty that state is so they don’t make that mistake again.

The judge presiding over Trump’s NY criminal case REFUSES to budge from his order forcing lawyers to ask his okay to file any more motions.

He also WARNS Trump’s lawyers to obey that order, citing his “power to punish for a criminal contempt.”

In the words of Richard Pryor, “this judge is getting tired of Trump’s ass”.

I haven’t tried to access LGF on my work box ever, and we have Bluecoat proxies. This is the reason I have a cell phone. I don’t want my employer to know what the hell I’m doing, which is why I won’t install employer’s tools on my phone.
