Dr. Torres’s response here is something that continually needs to be hammered away: the continued un-personing, the removal of agency from the mother in order to place the fetus on a pedestal. Especially when said fetus is regarded as a ‘leech on society’ and even a ‘punishment’ for the woman for not being ‘moral’ soon as it ceases to be a fetus and becomes an actual living child.

You know, I also believe that young people should be called upon to take more responsibility for their actions, which is something that we cannot expect them to do unless they are informed of their choices and options, and how their own reproductive system functions.

Just teaching our teenagers to keep it in their trousers or face the consequences falls far short of that.
