The woman who makes the omelets at work was out recently. Come to find out, she caught covid for the second time. She’s tired of catching it, but she and the guy next to me in line ended up off in “Well, I’m not going to keep taking the shots, if you catch it you catch it.” Out of 5000 people here at work, there are probably a dozen of us that still wear masks.

I do wonder if we are reaching a stage though where most variants are not going to cause more than congestion in most people (note I didn’t say all, even the flu kills).

You are probably right in that it’s going to become a species endemic virus like the flu that cycles around constantly and takes an annual toll of people, mainly elderly and immune system compromised. There will be an annual or semi-annual shot for it, but whether people get it or not cannot be readily predicted.
