Because I was responding to a “straight line” which means that mine had to be at least a little tiny bit silly to be counted as humor.

I could have said:
“Only until the ignorant elect Rick Scott.”

Instead I said:
“Only until the ignorant elect Rick Scott, then suddenly it has consequences…”

See? Ha. Ha. Ha.
I understated the second half of the sentence and rather than stating specifics I allowed the reader to conjure up whatever they might have heard lately. This is known as implied humor, it isn’t what you said specifically, it is what you led your audience to think of via what you said.

Keep practicing, I’m sure some day you will be able to attempt it yourself if you really try…
