To be honest, I’ve never really understood this charge—usually from old timers in NH. Maybe it’s affordability? But homes in southern NH are obscenely expensive too. Still, I guess that residency/work thing is real.
I’ve sort of got that if I get a job in Philly. I wind up paying a city wage tax that is twice my current NJ state tax, and I’ve got NJ’s lovely property tax to deal with.
I get credit on my NJ tax for any Philly wage tax I pay, but I lose the rest to Philly with no way to get it back.
