Not that I think Congressional Republicans give a crap how they look- as long as they get their bro on the SC - but I think that the mechanics of that GOP “ suicide pact” - I.e., trading control of Congress for a SCOTUS seat, are starting to look less and less attractive as time ticks by. If they back down on Kavanaugh, they will lose face and support with the base.

They need to keep that intact. As for the rest of the voters they might lose for supporting a privileged white drunkard/rapey-ist, they will take their chances, they know that the electorate is fickle and has a short memory, and can be won back.

But once K-naugh is in, he is in for life and they have the SC majority they need to turn the legislative clock back half a century.
