So there goes viable transportation for people who can’t afford new, but would benefit from a good used vehicle. Not to mention the ripple effects—repair parts sales. etc.

This takes perfectly good car parts out of the market and drives up the price for people who keep and maintain older cars. That’s just brilliant in a recession.
