I’m struck by the chair grip. A bi-cable system, with the lower rope moving the chairs and the stationary upper rope suspending the chairs, with a two-sheave carriage. They decidedly don’t make them like this anymore, chairlifts today are a single moving haul rope. Aerial trams still use the bi-cable system.

My strongest memory of chairlifts, and the great joy of family vacations when I’d rather spend time with not-family (preferably attractive men in my age bracket)… was being able to walk down the line yelling “SINGLE! SINGLE!” and be able to meet somebody that way.
