Medicare and Social Security are not technically free stuff. They are paid for via taxes employees contribute to via payroll deductions - 6.2% per paycheck.

Everyone pays payroll tax into those programs - OASDI (Social Security), The Medicare/Medicaid payroll tax (FICA) is 2.9%, split 50/50 between the employer/employee share.

That’s why they were in quotes, and we know healthcare won’t be free either.
