Question for people here. I am looking at getting my son a MIDI controller like this - guitarcenter.com - for his birthday in February, and I was wondering if someone could tell me what the red box is in this image:

I’m assuming it has something to do with connecting to the speakers on the table.

It’s an audio interface, a Focusrite by the looks of it. It is used send audio from the laptop to external speakers, and can also be used to input audio, like from musical instruments or a microphone. It is not likely used by the midi controller, which usually connects directly to the laptop with a USB cable.
